Hi, has to be short right now.
I am working on multilingual educational publishing company. First children's book (website up and readable by August) is in English, Espanol and Japanese…I took an English/Turkish version to turkey with me…and since my son-in-law is from Brasil, there is a portuguese/espanol/english probably available early next year.
I am myself not fluent in anything but my native tongue, english. I can assist Spanish speakers if no one better available, I communicate well in general over all kinds of barriers, and apparently have a good ear as I have been mistaken for a native speaker in three languages now. There I was, using my carefully thought out and limited vocabulary, and then couldn't respond to a flood of words (isn't that so, so frustrating? here's someone so ready to talk with you, and you can't!).
So my goals are to get fluent in espanol y portuguesse, to read and write middling well in turkish (will let me speak some when opportunity arises), to learn some beginning Cherokee as ally to close friends, and maybe some day explore Irish Gaelic.
brazilian Portuguese is first, since my young grandchildren speak it. my son-in-law will have realtives visiting this fall. His aunt will be here for three months and I plan language exchange sessions with her up to 3 or 4 x/week; she doesn't speak english and I know my daughter and son-in-law will be busy and tend to speak portuguese with her.
speaking of grandchildren, they are here now. Ciao!
