<![endif]-->
Dears,

Now, I open up a topic on The Process of Musical Communication. Thiruvasagam Oratorio and Music Messiah have improved my appreciation. Also Nokia 6233 has given me the great clarity of sound and redefined many songs of our Ilaiyaraaja. The layering i.e. the texture of our Ilaiyaraaja's compositions has been clearly seen with such technology.

Once, I read in a book that music has two inseparable elements, viz., FORM and CONTENT. The form or structure can be described by technical analysis. For example, the harmony, the counterpoints, the measure (beats & rhythm), the melody, ascending or descending notes, the pitch changes, the volume changes, the syncopation, the tempo will tell us how to play or perform a piece and bring out the greatness of the genius of the composition. But music doesn’t always composed for these technically qualities only. Music apart from this form has a CONTENT to deliver. The CONTENT is often separated from the FORM and never be given importance. The truth is that the both are inseparable. The CONTENT in the music can only expressed or apprehended, if some technical analysis be made by the listener to understand the FORM, without separating the both.

As an example I try to put my views on the track "Composer’s Breath" from "Nothing But Wind!"

Once I read in a web page that the Beginning Flute in the Composer's Breath of Nothing But Wind is suggesting the vast Indian landscape.

After that, when I listen to the Composer's Breath, I visualize for the first5-6mins as follows:

First, the beginning Flute - tonepaints the vast landscape but slightly differently, i.e. "The Air (Wind) over a vast dry landscape is asking the nature to bring rain for the sustenance of life forms". So the flute is nothing but wind. (Land = Soil = Human body = Composer, Breath = Air = Wind)

Then, as a response the clouds start nodding (from a far off location) with very feeble (sound) notes in the strings, twice.

Then, the Flute notes express the weather (changes) suitable for raining. (Humidity & Temperature changes, slight tone change of flute).

Then, the clouds start rushing to the area. Strings are expressing this movement.

Then, the onset of rain (rain droplets are heard). The rain seems to be a slow shower. Suddenly gains little momentum.

Then, the vegetation and wind start dancing. (Flute)

Then, the rainwater stars flowing here & there. (feeble Violins). Then strong violin express the collection of huge quantity of water and its movement, resulting in river flow.

Then, the rain seems to stop, Sunlight seems to peep in. (Flute with different colour).

Then, dance of the vegetation and the wind, gains momentum. This expresses the relish of land, its life forms & wind.

Then, the wind starts travelling along with river. (Wind on top of River) (Flute & Violins). Sometimes, the wind commands the direction of river flow. But for most of the times, wind follows the river.

Then, music turns abstractive (for me). I may apprehend that the flute is nothing but wind and travels with water to visit different terrain conditions. Similarly, the flute also represents the breath of a composer. Then the various musical forms & patterns metaphorically define the various breathing patterns of a composer. Here the breath of the composer is nothing but music.

Now, at the end of the piece, the gushing of violins suggests the mixing of river and sea. The river ends there but the wind seems not so.

The whole piece with various musical patterns expresses how theflow over river. breath (music) of an Indian Composer changes metaphorically with wind

What I have felt is to be verified by EXPERTS in our group.

Indeed, I request experts in our group to put more light on this kind of musical communication.

The process of musical communication is more important for our Ilaiyaraaja's composition.

With love & peace from Akbar Basha

      Hey everyone...

This is my first post here so just fyi... I am definately interested in meeting more musicians for networking, shows, etc... especially if your in the phoenix area!

My music can be found at http://www.myspace.com/screamingshivamusic (i know myspace is the devil right? ah well we all have our own shadows to deal with)

The two songs up on the site right now are "We the People!" (a song that I wrote over the course of a few years (since 911) that I believe voices the true voice of the people. The feelings of shock, sadness, and disbelief at a government and world gone wrong. The other song is called "The Silent One" ... this song is more about searching for answers... looking for the buddha /shiva mind or christ consciousness... its all the same feel free to call it whatever you wish...

Screaming Shiva is an Integral Neo-Folk project with a mission ... Conscious Evolution Through Music. ... It deals with all aspects of the evolution of the search for that place called home. Currently I am working on my first album... the songs on the website are rough cuts. Please give it a listen... tell me what ya think if you feel so inclined. Add me on Gaia/zaads, myspace. or livejournal if you have one... =)

Namaste!

Sage Michaels

I'm really digging the new Rasa album - Saffron Blue - it has a unique Euro-Indian sound. A nice meld of spiritual and sensual... with sitar, sarangi, violin, cello, rhythm and synthesizer.

Music is by Hans Christian and chants by Kim Water.

Anyone have any recommendations for other similar stuff??

Take a listen:

http://www.newearthrecords.com/web/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=0&idproduct=1315

Beauty.full!

Yeah, this thread seems like it might be dormant, but I just got Tulku: Doors to Paradise and love it.

http://www.newearthrecords.com/web/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=18&idproduct=1344

It's produced by Jim Wilson, and has vocals by Tina Malia, Sita Jameison, Nubia Teixeira, Jai Uttal and more.

I took this from the inside CD cover:

"In this latest incarnation of the Tulku series we are graced with new voices and music from South Africa, Bangladesh, Morocco, Brazil and Europe. Our endevour is based on a shared vision of bringing together cultures and musical traditions from around the world into a new form."

Check it out. ☺

New Earth has a MySpace page too: http://www.myspace.com/newearthrecords

I just found New Earth Records, which has a beautiful website and even more beautiful music.

I received my copy of "Tulku: Doors to Paradise". It’s a gorgeous compilation of world music ranging from ambient to downtempo to chill out, to mild world beat dance...I love it. Very diverse and beautiful!

Here's the link with a lot of samples:

Hello Zaadsters,

I want to invite you to listen to and be a part of a “new” movement in positive communication. It is called Positive, Poz or New Consciousness music and there are over 200 Indie artists who are specifically performing this music. It is not religious, although some of it is spiritual, but it is music with a message of unity, community, and recognizing the power within each of us to achieve our highest potential. To the best of my knowledge, the only place you can hear all of this music in one place as well as mainstream artists performing music with the same message is New Consciousness Radio at http://www.ncradio.us/.

This music, as much as the genre of New Age music, can and should be the voice of enlightenment. Positive Talk radio is important and I believe in the power of positive words, but the power of positive words set to music should be recognized as an even more powerful way to present the gospel of unity, community and the power within each one of us to achieve our highest potential to the world. But this incredible music revolution is still largely ignored by the powerful voices of the New Thought and New Consciousness Movement.
The goal of NC Radio is to bring harmony to the world through the music and the message and embraces the principle that the more positive you bring into your life the more positive that will be reflected through your life. The vision to present this music through the vehicle of a traditional radio style broadcast was started by radio veteran Tom Averna in 2001.

The idea started as Radiopositive and has been through a few incarnations. It is now broadcasting as New Consciousness Radio at www.ncradio.us. In 2005 I helped found The Positive Music Association with Scott Johnson who still operates it at http://www.positivemusicassociation.com/.
My vision for New Consciousness Radio is that it be one of many media vehicles enabling others as well as myself to get “positive in to bring positive out.” I believe the music and the message could be a very powerful vehicle to do this. Perhaps we can fulfill the vision of much of the 60's music to create a world where love was more important and powerful than war.

Please give a listen and if you like what you hear, please consider promoting this work to your friends.
Thanks for your time.
