What a wonderful story. It inspired me to try to be more sensitive to these intelligent little creatures who tend our gardens and nature areas. And also to know that our prayers do make a difference. Have you heard about Dr. Masaru’s Emoto’s book “Messages From Water.” He is a Japanese researcher who has taken photographs of water crystals and shown how prayers, words and thoughts can change the structure of water. |

I skimmed that book and was really startled to see the photos of water in different settings – after that I stopped microwaving my tea water – microwaved water looks completely dead! and on the topic of water, did you all know that many commercial water bottles are very unsafe? read this for more info – my partner, Bill, is a fitness trainer, nutritional consultant, and science researcher who has a blog on health and fitness called Integral Fitness Solutions – that article is one of his posts – it seems that reusing Aquafina or Dasani bottles is dangerous, as is using those cool-looking brightly colored bottles that are sold everywhere – the safest plastic bottles to use are #2, #4, and #5 I know this is off the topic of devas, etc., but I wanted to spread the word – also, microwaving anything plastic is dangerous (plastic containers and plastic wrap) |

Yes, I know about reusing plastic water bottles and the dangers of bacteria growing in that water. Thanks for the info and the links. Joan |

Calling Up FairiesJourneys [no longer around] said Jul 26, 2006, 3:19 PM: |

Hi Joan and All! I'm currently reading a section in Serge King's book “Urban Shaman” about “shapechanging” or communication with plants that I thought you would all appreciate. Serge writes about how a guy named George Washington Carver was able to do “incredible things with plants.” These words speak volumes. :) Quote from Urban Shaman: “He, (GWC), derived hundreds of separate, economically important products from plants he worked with, not by scientific study, analysis, or experimentation, but by deep communication. When asked how he performed his miracles he said that all plants and living things talked to him, and that “I Learn What I know By Watching And Loving Everything.” Much of his work was done in a private laboratory in which no books were allowed, where he would spend hours communicating with plants to learn what they had to teach. Not long before his death he said that in touching a flower, “I am touching infinity. Through the flower I talk to the Infinite. It is that still small voice that calls up the fairies.” Peace and love, Journeys |

Hi Journeys, I had heard about George Washington Carver before, but not in detail. That is a great quote from Urban Shaman. I looked up more about Carver online and it appears he was quite a spiritual and exemplary person, dedicated to service above all. He “choose instead to work for the improvement of the quality of life for the disenfranchised.” http://inventors.about.com/library/weekly/aa041897.htm
“He could have added fortune to fame, but caring for neither, he found happiness and honor in being helpful to the world.” - Epitaph on the grave of George Washington Carver. ABOUT GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER - Born a slave in Mississippi, Carver earned a high school diploma after the Civil War while working as a farmhand. He attended Iowa Agricultural College while working as the school janitor. He received his Master’s degree from Iowa as well and became the first Black person to serve on its faculty. Shortly thereafter he joined the faculty at Booker T Washington’s Tuskegee. Above all, Carver was a spiritual person: “How do I talk to a little flower? Through it I talk to the Infinite…. I refer to the unseen Spirit that defies the power of human reproduction, that challenges the power of human expression…. When you look into the heart of the rose, there you experience it.” Carver never patented most of his discoveries while at Tuskegee: “God gave them to me; how can I sell them to someone else?” Though he was offered large salaries to work for Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, Carver choose instead to work for the improvement of the quality of life for the disenfranchised: “If I took that money, I might forget my people.” GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER QUOTES
“Look about you. Take hold of the things that are here. Let them talk to you. You learn to talk to them.” “There is no short cut to achievement. Life requires thorough preparation – veneer isn’t worth anything.” “Learn to do common things uncommonly well; we must always keep in mind that anything that helps fill the dinner pail is valuable.” Joan Holman

Hi Joan! Thanks for the links, references and quotes about GWC. :) I'm just added him to my profile “heros” list. Here is a Zaadz Quote link for more of his quotes - http://www.zaadz.com/quotes/George_Washington_Carver One of my favorite quotes by him - “Anything will give up its secrets if you love it enough.” And to further expand this thought - “Not only have I found that when I talk to the little flower or to the little peanut they will give up their secrets, but I have found that when I silently commune with people they give up their secrets also - if you love them enough.” Peace and love, Journeys |
