This one is easy and delicious:

Cook up a pot of brown rice ( 1 cup dry rice )

Once cooked add a couple of cans of black beans (drained and rinsed)

Slice up an avocado and red bellpepper and mix together

Top with your favorite salsa

Makes 4-5 servings

Nick Smith
The Magnetic Dietician

I love to juice! And I love getting the most bang for my buck. I got a vitamix because I heard that it was the only juicer that you could keep all the pulp/seeds/etc in when you juice greens and oranges and apples, and anything really.

You can make soups with it, and ice cream (frozen bananas and strawberries with a little water), and so much more.

My favorite juice is simple:

16 oz water
4 leaves bok choy
1 apple
2 strawberries

and mix! I also put in some maca or cacao, or other things in sometimes.

Whats your favorite recipe?

Thanks, Dree. I'm trying to learn all I can about how best to eat, but there's so much conflicting info out there. I guess I need to make slow, gradual changes and see how my body and mind react to them. Good advice on not being out of balance.

What's your take on soy milk vs. rice milk?

There's so much said about it - it's hard to know 'the truth about soy'.

Like with everything I feel a major thing is, like with anything you eat, don't go over the top/disbalanced about it.

Try to use the least processed soy products; tempey, tofu, etc. instead of 'fake meat' etc.

And whatever you do, make sure you use NON GMO soy products!!!

I would like to throw out the topic of soy to everyone. I have heard people such as Dr. Andrew Weill mention soy quite often when recommending dairy and meat protein replacements in diet. However, my friend just went to a holistic nutritionist who recommended rice milk over soy mild, saying that soy releases toxins into the system.

I'm curious to know your personal experiences with soy, and recommendations you have heard or subcribe to around it.

20 Super Foods

Here are some interesting facts about 20 super foods. These high nutrient foods not only nourish and protect - they taste great too!

Asparagus Asparagus is high in glutathione, an important anticarcinogen It also contains rutin, which protects small blood vessels from rupturing and may protect against radiation Asparagus is a good source of vitamins A, C and E, B-complex vitamins, potassium and zinc.

Avocado Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fat, which is easily burned for energy. An avocado has more than twice as much potassium as a banana. For a delicious, creamy salad dressing, mix together avocado and fresh carrot juice.

Bananas You don't need to eat bananas for the potassium! (Although it is present in bananas, potassium is the predominant nutrient among most all fruits and vegetables.) Bananas are high in sugar, so they should not be eaten if you have blood sugar problems. Don't eat bananas on an empty stomach; combining them with a bit of protein will help to normalize the insulin response caused by the sugar in the banana. Green-tipped bananas are better for your health than over-ripe bananas.

Beet Greens Beet greens contain notable amounts of calcium, iron, magnesium and phosphorus They also contain vitamins A, B-complex and C

Broccoli Broccoli contains twice the vitamin C of an orange. It has almost as much calcium as whole milk--and the calcium is better absorbed It contains selenium, a mineral that has been found to have anti-cancer and anti-viral properties Broccoli is a modest source of vitamin A and alpha-tocopherol vitamin E. It also has antioxidant properties.

Celery Celery is the best vegetable source of naturally occurring sodium. It is high in potassium. The high water content in celery makes it ideal for vegetable juicing. As an easy way to reduce grains in your diet, spread peanut butter on celery rather than bread.

Cilantro Cilantro may be useful to treat urinary tract infections. Both the leaves and seeds aid digestion, relieve intestinal gas, pain and distention They also treat nausea, soothe inflammation, rheumatic pain, headaches, coughs and mental stress Cilantro is a member of the carrot family.

Chicory Chicory contains inulin, which helps diabetics regulate their blood sugar levels. Chicory is closely related to lettuce and dandelion but is a member of the sunflower family It may be cleansing to the liver and gallbladder Chicory is beneficial for digestion, the circulatory system and the blood Chicory leaves are a good source of calcium, vitamin A and potassium.

Chinese Cabbage Chinese cabbage has anti-inflammatory properties. This herb is anticarcinogenic and can be useful for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation Fennel can be useful for indigestion and spasms of the digestive tract It also helps expel phlegm from the lungs.

Kale Kale eases lung congestion and is beneficial to the stomach, liver and immune system. It contains lutein and zeaxanthin, which protect the eyes from macular degeneration It also contains indole-3-carbinol, which may protect against colon cancer Kale is an excellent source of calcium, iron, vitamins A and C, and chlorophyll.

Kohlrabi Kohlrabi, which belongs to the cabbage family, is an excellent source of vitamin C and potassium. They also contain fatty acids that kill parasites. Raw pumpkin seeds contain essential fatty acids and beneficial proteins. For maximum nutritional benefits, seeds should be eaten raw. Roasted seeds contain damaged fat that can lead to plaque in the arteries.

Radishes Radishes have antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. They are a member of the cabbage family Radishes contain vitamin C, potassium and other trace minerals Grown in Egypt since at least 2780 B.C., radishes were originally black.

Tomatoes Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, flavonoids and other phytochemicals with anticarcinogenic properties.

Wild greens have long been valued for their ability to restore vitality, detoxify and nourish. Being one of the most alkalinizing foods they also help regulate proper body pH.

There are many ways to incorporate spring's abundance of wild weeds into your daily diet.

Supplement your own lettuce with wild greens to give an ordinary salad a mineral boost.

Dandelions are a particularly nutritional spring treat, providing loads of highly assimilable minerals and antioxidants. Because it is high in vitamins and iron, this herb is useful for treating anemia.

A bitter, appetite stimulant, this herb increases production of bile to help relieve constipation, gallstones, hemorrhoids and IBS.

Dandelion leaves can be chopped finely and added to salads. You can also add flower petals to salads, soups and stirfrys for a dash of spring color.

Try this Dandelion Sesame Sautee Recipe

Nettles are another wild weed abundant in nourishment! This is largely due to nettles copious amounts of minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, potasium, phosphorous, manganese and silicon. Not only that, they are one of the highest plant sources of iron and vitamins such as C, beta carotene and even protein.

Nettles lose their sting when cooked. They can be used instead of spinach in most recipes.

I love them steamed and tossed with a clove of minced garlic, a splash of olive oil and a dash of a dash of Fire Cider

You can also try steamed nettles dressed in a lemon vinagrette and crumbled feta. Yum!

In addition to dandelion and nettle, here are some wild weed options to try:

Chickweed, Sorrell, Catnip, Plantain, Dock, Violets, Lamb's-quarter and Purslane.

I have not personally, but my mother was diagnosed with type 2 about 10 years ago. At the time, she was a vegetarian, but after the diagnosis she became fully vegan and started power walkinf for a half hour a day. She lost her excess weight, and to this day has never had to take insulin or anykind of medication...she controls it strictly through diet and exercise.

      hey Bradley

thanx for reply. At the end of my last post it sounds as thought I deprive myself which I dont! I am not overweight or anything - i just don't eat that much junk (although I wouldn't consider chocolate junk coz it's so damn good!). Sometimes I like to find other ways to fulfill my craving which i like it coz i like trying to find alternatives and question why my body is doing it. I still eat chocolate and pizza and all those yum things. i need a lot of fuel coz im so busy all the time and have a pretty fast metabolism plus go to the gym a lot and im vegetarian (therefore i eat lots of carbs). Healthy food is awesome though - you stop craving junk after a while.

speak soon
