Okay we have no moose on Mayne Island BUT there are lots of deer and we just had a doe and two fawns crawl under the deer fence and much up part of our garden! Other wild life observed was a pair of raccoons, a band-tailed pigeon, a sexy little green tree frog, mink, otter, seals, orcas, red-tailed hawks, turkey vultures, bald headed eagles and field mice.

Gas prices have been a huge issue impacting our island life with a 17% increase in ferry fares on August 1st. People are making fewer trips, the number of visiters are down and island businesses have had to increase their prices to cover additional cost.

Not ready to move yet though… love this place!

As for festivals we just attended the Salmon Festival but I am told that the “real” community fall event is the Horton Hoot which is a big potluck music fesitival that locals attend… still waiting to be passed along the date as it isn't advertise… one must be in the know.
