I found this paragraph which describes the role of prayer in Buddhism:

The Purpose of Buddhist Prayer

Buddhist prayer is a practice to awaken our inherent inner capacities of strength, compassion and wisdom rather than to petition external forces based on fear, idolizing, and worldly and/or heavenly gain. Buddhist prayer is a form of meditation; it is a practice of inner reconditioning. Buddhist
prayer replaces the negative with the virtuous and points us to the
blessings of Life.

Two Buddhist Prayers:

Prayer for Freedom From Suffering

May all beings everywhere plagued

with sufferings of body and mind

quickly be freed from their illnesses.

May those frightened cease to be afraid,

and may those bound be free.

May the powerless find power,

and may people think of befriending each other.

May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful wilderness-

the children, the aged, the unprotected-

be guarded by beneficent celestials,

and may they swiftly attain Buddhahood.

The Buddha

This is my favorite prayer:

“May I become food and drink in the aeons of famine for those poverty-stricken suffers.

May I be a doctor, medicine and nurse for all sick beings in the world until everyone is cured.

May I become never-ending wish-fulfilling treasures materialising in front of each of them as all the enjoyments they need.

May I be a guide for those who do not have a guide, a leader for those
who journey, a boat for those who want to cross over, and all sorts of
ships, bridges, beautiful parks for those who desire them, and light
for those who need light.

And may I become beds for those who need a rest, and a servant to all who need servants.

May I also become the basic conditions for all sentient beings, such as earth or even the sky, which is indestructible.

May I always be the living conditions for all sentient beings until all sentient beings are enlightened.”

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Silence is praise to You, O God in Zion, and to You a vow is paid. You, Who hearken to prayer, to You all flesh shall come.

 Religious Science (Science of Mind)

[1]  All Good is eternally available and ready to flow into human experience.  We activate this flow by means of prayer.  Through affirmative prayer, or spiritual mind treatment, we increase our consciousness of Good eternally flowing to us.

Súigh Dílis said Today, 1:25 AM:

5 “And whenever you pray, don't be like the hypocrites who love to stand in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they will be seen by people. I tell you with certainty, they have their full reward! 6 “But whenever you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees from the hidden place will reward you.” [b] 7 “When you are praying, don't say meaningless things ”[c] like the gentiles do, because they think they will be heard by being so wordy.” 8 ”Don't be like them, because your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

You should consequently strive to be incessant in prayer, and in the
midst of your corporal practices do not abandon it. Whether you eat,
or drink, or speak, or converse with lay people, or do anything else,
you should always do so with desire for God and with your heart fixed
on him. This is very necessary for inner solitude, which demands
that the soul dismiss any thought that is not directed to God.
