Re: Books on Inter-faith harmony- The Parallel Sayings

As part of my own unfolding, within the spirit of this project, several books have come to my attention, which seem to seek the similarities by comparing recognized religions and their spiritual masters-

[1]  Jesus, Krishna, Buddha, Lao-Tzu - The Parallel Sayings (The Common Teachings of Four Mystical Traditions) edited by Richard Hooper
In Science of Mind magazine, April 2009, Claudia Abbott began her review of this book with these questions - [1]  Is it possible that the great teachers of the major world religions present slightly different paths to the same destination ?  [2]  Does the wisdom of these teachings resonate at such a deep, personal level of recognition because they reveal the truth that has always been inside each individual's consciousness ?  This book explores 13 subject areas that range from “The Great Way” to “Death and Immorality”.  These parallel sayings are presented in 4 columns across 2 facing pages.  The sayings capture the perspective of each spiritual tradition while revealing the universality of the wisdom.  In his work, Hooper does not attempt to make any tradition right or wrong, he simply finds the common ground.

[2]  Jesus and Lao Tzu - The Parallel Sayings edited by Martin Aronson
A review at Amazon says the book compares the New Testament with the Tao Te Ching.  The editor uses sayings by Jesus and Lao Tzu to reveal a surprising set of examples in which these 2 spiritual masters point their followers in the same direction.  The book includes over 90 parallel sayings.  The book also attempts to show how these shared truths transcend traditional religious boundaries.  The editor has lived in several religious communities and has studied Taosim, Christianity, Zen and Tibetan Buddhism and Sufism.

[3]  Jesus and Buddha - The Parallel Sayings edited by Marcus Borg
A review at Amazon says that Marcus Borg is a Christian and Jesus scholar and wrote this book by selecting a range of quotations from the Gospels and then paired them with parallel sayings of the Buddha.  There are a pair of such to each page, divided into sections such as “Inner Life” and “Temptation”.  The book includes a history of the origins of both Christianity and Buddhism and a summary of their beliefs.

Sacred Rituals By Belinda Recio, Eileen London

Using rituals to connect to the whole of creation, and thus to the sacred.

can manifest while walking a labyrinth, Christ can be experienced in a
tea ceremony, and the light of Allah can appear in a candle flame- that
we wrote this book.”  Preface to

One: Essential Writings on Nonduality  by Jerry Katz Large portions of the entire book can be read online at Google books.

This book compiles the most lively expressions of nonduality, which is the understanding that existence is one undivided whole..

One is a sourcebook for understanding the profound perspective of unitary reality and the mystical dissolution of self in the universal. This collection of the best of nondual thought includes contributions by compelling writers, philosophers, and teachers including figures such as Ramana Maharshi, Lao Tzu, and Ibn 'Arabi, and contemporaries such as John Prendergast, Steven Harrison, and Bernadette Roberts. One is not just an introduction to and an overview of nonduality-it's also a penetrating exploration of the art of living an ordinary life that grows out of the undivided experience.

The Reluctant Messenger of Science and Religion: Science and the World's Religions Are Pieces to a Puzzle That Need Each Other to Form a Complete Picture
Stephen W. Boston PH. D.,Evelyn McKnight Boston PH. D.

Started with a very large website : The Reluctant Messenger of Science and Religion

Science teaches evolution. Genesis describes creation. Christianity, Judaism, and Sufism teach resurrection. Hinduism, Buddhism, and Sikhism teach reincarnation. The Reluctant Messenger of Science and Religion resolves these paradoxes.
Chester and Lydia meet in a debate. One wins. One loses. Neither are ever the same. Lydia discovers a secret from her past that destroyed her family. She tries to ignore it, but her nightmares won’t let her. Chester’s greed for gold and revenge lead him to ancient knowledge which the powers of darkness fight to suppress. When the information last came to light, thousands died. Somehow, Chester must safely reveal it to the world. Click Here to read the Editor's Review

Re: Books on Inter-faith harmony- The Milk is White

The Milk Is White [Scrib'd version]
By Ian Gardner

[Other versions available on e-library]

“Over two thousand years ago a Hindu sage said that, irrespective of the colour of the cow, the milk is white. He was alluding to the fact that there is but one spiritual Truth irrespective of which Master expounds it. This book brings together the essence of the teachings of the major spiritual Masters and shows how the Truth embodied in these teachings can be applied in one's life to achieve peace and joy. It is the result of one person's lifetime search for the meaning of life as we know it but, because of the universality of its content, it is recommended to anyone who seeks the spiritual Truth.

The insights presented in Part Two herein postdate the writing of The Milk Is White and qualify and/or expand upon its contents.

This book answers questions such as:
What am I?Who am I?Why am I here? What is the purpose of life? It is a combination of spirituality, psychiatry and psychology and will help solve all problems and challenges presented by life. It presents the path to true happiness and fulfilment. The more it is referred to, read and absorbed the more beneficial it will be.”
