Now I Can See the Moon

Masahide wrote the following haiku:

“Barn's burnt down … Now I can see the moon”. Can you see the moon?

We want a life of clarity, freedom, happiness, and deep meaning. We get there step by step by becoming our own person, deeply trusting our own intuition and...(more)

OK, I will start. Below is a link to the groups avatar, or whatever you call it. It is a photo of a painting I did years ago. For a while, I did painting incorporating images of dancers. My models were from photos. I didn't realize it at the time but all the dancers were from Alvin Ailey Dance Company in NYC. I didn't know this until my daughter Tegan started going to the Ailey School. Isn't that weird?  :O)

Tai,

As I recall, Gaia used to have a picture icon thingamahbob to post photos that I no longer see but maybe I am thinking of another website …

To post a link, you copy it and then paste it here. Then you highlight it and then click on the chain icon above to the left of the spell check icon, and again paste the link in the popup next to link URL and then hit insert

Re: Photos

Meenakshi said Dec 14, 2008, 7:04 PM:

The icon for posting photos is still on the text bog for blogs but not for pods.

But if the picture is uploaded to your Photos section or on the web, all we've to do is copy and paste it .

e.g.  I pasted the photo of the moon in my introduction on this pod..

Silent Temple, I enjoyed your painting; the details draw the eye in. Are you a member of the DREAMS OF ARTISTS™ pod on Gaia? They feature artists there.

A Sacred Site?  http://www.sacredsites.com/  There must be more than are listed on the website.  It lists 37 sacred sites in England.  None in Connecticut.  But there's one in Florida (Crystal River mounds) about 20 miles from where Erik lived.  Tim wants to go down in January to help Liz out - maybe we can squeeze in a side trip.  :)

“how big was the brush by the way”
the paper was lay on the bottom and i could use the brush in an upstanding position. the brush was looking like a swab. in first part of this seminar we was doing “normal” kanji-writings. than in the second part, as kind of bonbon maybe, we could use this spezial brushes of kazuaki for fun.  i was planing to do a lot of  paintings with this rare tools. but the first paint  thats happened was samurai…and i couldn't  make more pics, because i felt this first one was like achieve an goal…was an new good experience to me :)

I checked out the site, went all through it in fact!  I liked what I saw - I've tried doing kanji-writings, but must admit I wasn't that good - I did the reiki kanji with the help of my son in the end - he's pretty nifty with a pencil, pen or brush for that matter…

I liked the fact that the paintings are done in one breath, it's like breathing the life force into the picture…I've done mandala's in this fashion using word and colour - I'll post one..I could see the energy in your picture as the brush stroke spiraled.  It's good to have new experiences as this keep our creative energy high.

Yes, I agree with Julie - a wonderful picture, Mario. Very wonderful.

Why did I stop painting? … I think it was a broken heart that did it … in part … and then I focused almost completely on a very much alone spiritual existence … and when I think of painting, I cannot summon the dead person within me that used to paint to resurrect himself and paint.

Brilliant Art and artists here!!!

Art is a way we express to one another an appreciation of, or a reaction to life.

Mathematicians have a deep appreciation of the order and relativity of symbolic factors in existence, which the layman often fails to appreciate. The public may not be aware that an interplay of relationships is what attracts both the mathematician and the painter, musician or even filmmaker. The fine artist, however, has a built-in public relations mechanism in that his work, which is a cumulative record of his interest in the varying relationships of light and color, can be grasped and appreciated by ordinary people who have no knowledge whatsoever of advanced mathematics, optics or color theory.

No such public relations mechanism assists the formulas and equations of the math “artist”- his work isn't generally appreciated until it in turn is translated into a less symbolic product: the sprinklers that turn on automatically at the correct time each day, the graceful, accurate trajectory of the space shuttle, or perhaps the computer software that permits a painter to create art on his laptop with no thought at all given to the mountains of code he is manipulating with his mouse.

Last year, a film director spared the assembled throng at the Kodak a lengthy Oscar acceptance speech by limiting his thanks to anyone who spends part of their day making art, as art is something that improves the quality of life. I thought that was a gracious acknowlegement and an important message, especially at a time when deconstuction and criticism seem to be the national sport. It's also a validation of the work of artists in less “artsy” fields, whose appreciation of the interplay of relationships in the universe enriches the daily lives of many, even though we can't understand a bloody thing they are saying.

Happy New Year!  Kathy

Well put, Kathy!  We all need the talents of both logical and metaphoric minds.  Instead of judging differences to be better or worse it would be a blessing if we could all appreciate that every unique gift contributes to the well-being of the whole of mankind and the earth, too.  I like your example: the computer software that permits a painter to create art on his laptop with no thought at all given to the mountains of code he is manipulating with his mouse.
