Now I Can See the Moon

Masahide wrote the following haiku:

“Barn's burnt down … Now I can see the moon”. Can you see the moon?

We want a life of clarity, freedom, happiness, and deep meaning. We get there step by step by becoming our own person, deeply trusting our own intuition and responses, and...(more)

You are aware - conscious.

Can you explain it?

What does it mean to you?

aware. to be sitting under a tree and understanding, being present, with everything surrounding you in the universe.
knowing there is a bug in your hair.
being present with the neighbors 2 miles away from you.
feeling the universe flow.

… most of the time - i would say that i am pretty dull…  not aware of the naked essence that pervades “reality”.  i catch awareness of this dullness from time to time - when i notice my thoughts increase, or if i have been lost in reading or watching tv, or telling (thinking) some story of self-importance …  all of these activities distract from simply breathing… and  fill up space where deep breaths long to go.  i notice that in my dullness my attention is hooked and i am not available to other expereince that is all just right there…  i don't hear the bird even though it chirps just outside, i don't feel the texture of the clothes on my body, nor even the tensions in my body that formed through years of habits, nor a sense of the overall form of this body in space, nor the coolness of the air as it passes through my nose into my chest…

i would say - that awareness for me - is a state of rest… anything that is perceived through the senses is not clutched and held by the mind…  it passes through without judgement or label.  or if there is judgement and labeling - then even that is not further clutched and held by the mind… it also passes through without judgement or labeling.
life is then an open experience and perceptions become keen and active.  there is always, though, that sense of rest… even in tension, or emotion, or fear…
i think one hallmark of awareness is a natural tendancy to laugh… because experience, whatever it is, is not so serious a matter, and there is the opportunity to notice wonderment of this astounding world… that is why i know i am pretty dull most of the time… i don't laugh nearly as much as i could.

Arpita, that is beautiful!

consciousness… hmmmm

HAHAHAHA, there is too much feeling there for me to put it into words.  I tried and it didn't work out haha.

let me try again….

If I'm just thinking about those two words; I know many conscious people who are not very aware hahaha.  I know what you mean though…

I agree with Arpita.  BEing aware to me means that we let everything flow through us.  Sensory information, situational information, etc. etc. It comes to us and we let it pass through us… If we dwell on these things then we are inviting them to stay with us and then our attention becomes diluted and we become less aware.  When we let things pass through us then we take everything moment to moment and we notice tiny wondrous things that we could not notice if we were less aware. hehehe.

Love Kevin

So far, I love all the responses.

Can I explain being aware and conscious … No, not really. I can dance intellectually with the subject but it would just be a bunch of bullshit.  :O)

What does it mean to me … Everything! I love this being conscious! Love it! Wow! Wonderful! A Miracle!

Why explain it when you can experience it?

When in the garden, pick weeds

When its snowing, shovel

When at night the sky is clear look up!

“In the deep midwinter, frosty wind made moan.

Earth stood hard as iron

Water like a stone.

Snow had fallen softly, snow on snow on snow,

In the deep midwinter, oh so long ago.

My God I cannot hold you, weak as I am.

If I were a shepherd, I would give a lamb.

If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part.

My God, I have not any.  I give you my heart.”

A favorite of mine, especially this time of year.

<sshhh…> the noisy baby is asleep.
