Peace, Pax, ??Peace Eagle said Apr 21, 2008, 8:38 PM: |

I thought it might be nice to start a thread of the word “Peace” in different languages. Granted, that alone is not an act of peace, however, I thought it would be nice to hear from folks all over the world how they say peace in their native tongue. Perhaps it could become a fun bonding exercise for us all, eh? Anyone out there up for the game? |

I'd forgotten Fred ! we named our son Fred 17 years ago partly because of the peace connection. My wife has made a peace prayer work of art with many peace words, I will swot up on them and report back. |

This might be interesting for you - in Russian the words for “peace” and “world” are the same: “Мир” - “MYR” (or “meer”). There is a popular “soviet” slogan saying “MYRU - MYR”, or “peace to the world”! |

What an inspiring thread. Pax is latin, I believe, interesting how children use this to settle their differences, perhaps without realising origins. I thought the synonyms for peace might add to this idea, there are many |

Well, its not in my native tongue, but I have tattooed this version of Peace onto my left wrist. It says Salaam, which is Peace in Arabic. It was a gift from an activist I worked with in the Iraq Veterans Against the War at a fundraiser we did at a tattoo parlor. To me, it serves as a reminder of my cause, a defining moment in my life, and what I have dedicated much of mySelf to. |
