Australian Catholic Workers, Jim Dowling and Ciaron O'Reilly were arrested this morning while blocking a major military access road to the Talisman Sabre 09 exercises being held at Shoalwater, central Queensland, Australia. Along with seven other anti war activists, the pair blockaded the road for over and hour and a half, and prevented more than a dozen US Army Jeep Troop carriers from entering the area.

Yes indeed -an International Law is what we need!
Interestingly, the War Ships WERE opened to the public for 2 days, after this incident!!

Very excellent. I think that there should be an international law that upon the written request of any citizen of any nation, they should be allowed to inspect the visiting vessels of another nation who is using their nation's ports and waters, or for that matter, landing fields, etc.

I also think that as citizens we should be able to inspect any and all government programs funded by public monies. Can you imagine? I wonder what nation could actually pass that law!

peace & harmony,
elaine
'freedom must be exercised to stay in shape!'

On Sunday a group of my friends will be travelling north,
to join with other groups, in a week long protest against these
war games.
All these protest will be peaceful actions, though there are sure
to be arrests made.
We have a large network of support and I will post news as it comes in...

A PROTESTER has been arrested after he attempted to breach security at the USS Tortuga.

The protester, equipped with a ladder, tried to scale the fence surrounding the ship, which along with the USS Essex, is docked in Cairns.

Pictures: Protesters at Trinity Wharf

Pictures: USS Essex

Pictures: Faces of the USS Essex

Earlier, Peace by Peace member Bryan Law had signalled the group's intention to hold a nonviolent "citizens' inspection" because the group was suspicious of the navy ships, the USS Essex and USS Tortuga.

He said if the vessels had nothing to hide, the ship's personnel would co-operate with them and allow the inspection.
http://www.cairns.com.au/article/2009/06/29/49335_local-news.html
