Steve-
Host your own movie!
Well, I guess you'd have to wait for them to be out on DVD first.
I recently discovered the power to show movies at my local library.
I figure, I can spend $35 on taking my family out for one movie, popcorn, etc.,
OR....
I can use that cash to rent a room at the library, use their DVD projector and screen, and share the movie with my community by hosting it myself.

As a matter of fact, I'll be doing it in February, and will post the details here.

Good luck!

Oh, and they will probably show Pan's Labrynth at the Ritz in Philly, I'm sure.

The festivities will begin at 4:00 PM on the 200 block of Bridge Street. The lighting of the Firebird will take place at 8:00 PM at the bird's new location adjacent to the Justice Building - www.firebirdfestival.com/

Have you ever gone to this? I just heard about it last weekend, and I'm planning to go this year.

The artists of Phoenixville have built a giant wooden phoenix, and during the festival it will be set alight to honor the return of the sun's light to the northern hemisphere. I'm told the potters put some of their works into the burning phoenix to fire them, and then sell them at the craft festival. (Does it really get hot enough? I wonder if they're already fired when they go in! Hee hee!)

And (a huge bonus!) there will be music, storytelling, a marionette show, juggling, "and more."

It's short notice but... Andrew Cohen, founder and editor-in-chief of What is Enlightenment? magazine, is also a spiritual teacher (I am one of Andrew's students myself). Mark Flashen, a leadership development coach from NYC, will be teaching the course. It's an excellent introduction to what I consider to be the most powerful spiritual teaching I've ever encountered.

The Liberation of Consciousness in the 21st Century: An Introduction to Andrew Cohen’s teaching of Evolutionary Enlightenment
Evolutionary Enlightenment is a 21st Century spiritual teaching that unites the Eastern notion of enlightenment with the Western passion for innovation and change, providing a practical framework for living an engaged and liberated life in our rapidly evolving world. During each session, students will gain an in-depth understanding of one of the fundamental principles of Evolutionary Enlightenment, and between sessions, participants will have the opportunity to directly apply these principles to their lives. The combination of intellectual grounding and real-world application enables students to powerfully participate in what they are studying – the evolution of our individual and collective consciousness.
To register, click here: http://www.eecourse.org.

      Hi Diane-
I know you posted this awhile ago, but I just joined this pod. I had a share in the farm last year and thoroughly enjoyed all of the food and fresh flowers. The sense of community and going to actually pick up the share and pick some of the food was an enriching food experience. Not to mention eating some veggies that I had never even seen before.
The family who runs the farm are also good friends of mine. I highly recommend it as a CSA experience.
Warmly-
Deborah

      Dear all,

In an effort to connect more integrally-informed folk in Philadelphia, I am starting Integral Philly. The event listing is here (first gathering on October 11, venue TBA - suggestions welcome), and I have cross-listed the group here.

Here's a description:

"Calling all hipsters, academics, entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, artisits, activists, and anyone else you can think of who's interested in evolving the interior dimension of the Kosmos: Integral Philly is starting, and we're bringing the revolutionary spirit back to Philly. Only this time, the revolution will be integral. Come one, come all, and bring your tetraperspectival, multidimensional selves to the most evolutionary meetup in town."

This can be a great tool to expand our Zaanghas and the Philly Zaadz community in general. Let's turn Philadelphia into a vortex of integral consciousness!

Cheers,
Sam

If you're in the area of West Chester Pike just outside of Newtown Square, PA, there is a local Pow wow that continues tomorrow (Sunday 24 Sep), hosted by the Okehocking Preserve in Chester County, PA. This was only their third year running, and I can imagine in the future it will balloon up into something else altogether, so if you'd like to attend a pow wow in an intimate setting, here's the spot.

I was treated to chanting and vivid storytelling, punctuated by the occasional hollering from someone in the accompanying drum circle. Before and afterwards, we all danced a circle dance and a highly aerobic Aztec dance that I can only describe as belly dancing while hopping on one foot! The storytelling & ritual that an Aztec family with four young children from Tenochtitlan – Mexico City – shared with us was especially moving.

Here's the exact location: Route 926 and Route 3 -- 5316 West Chester Pike Newtown Square, PA 19355

Happy Equinox!

April & Dave, and Heather & Hassen along with Jared came from the Jersey ’burbs, Diane came from Delaware county in the western ’burbs, and Jordan, while currently living in the city is preparing to move to Newark, DE. This turned out to be a good, central location for all of us. Thanks to Dave & April for the zPages rave review of Azure in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. It was a nice place to meet on a Saturday morning. We’ll have to come back for the seitan tips though. Dang if it wasn’t on the brunch menu!

I got there early. I was already about 45 minutes away, and with all of the traffic & construction in the area, I didn’t want to get caught. It was so nice to stroll around this section of town. I hadn’t been there in about three and a half years and WOW! They’ve been making some really positive changes. What a gorgeous day, too. I feel for everyone still suffering a heat wave; ours was brutal, too. But it ended a week ago, and yesterday we are fortunate to have autumn-like sunshine and breezes. I got a couple of good outside shots of Azure and put a couple of postcards on a stand inside. (Thanks, Obi, for sending me more!)

As you might expect with a bunch of Zaadzsters, we had a lot to talk about.

Hassen and Heather were on their way to a Sustainable Business Network meeting/picnic. The SBN is “committed to building a more socially, environmentally, and financially sustainable local economy.” (From the website.) Joining this group and attending the monthly meetings would be a terrific way for any Phila-area Zaadzsters who are business people, professionals, social entrepreneurs, and/or investors, to make very tangible, positive changes. I am wondering if spin-offs in the outlying townships would be well-received. One complaint of many people in our area is that the city does a wonderful job of bike paths, public transportation, and other services, but the minute you hit the city limits it all falls apart. That’s something I plan to look into.

In addition, Heather & Hassen have a small business called Organic Home. Check that out! They also turned us on to the SustainLane website. What great resources!

Dave just published his book 26 Ways to Feel Good Vibes. Check it out and his FeelGoodVibes site if you haven’t already. They are more than worth it! April is a graphic designer (you should see Dave’s killer business cards!) and you can see her work at Treelight Design Studio. Really amazing stuff.

Jordan is moving back to Newark, DE to pull together a Free Food day that will attract a few hundred people to hear his messages of sustainability. Check out his pod Inspire Newark. The idea is that if you offer free food, people of all walks of life will come and you will have an audience for you message. In this case, we are not “preaching to the converted,” and the message has to fit their lives. People want to hear ways to save money and be healthy (while saving money… you get the point! $$) so the message will come from that point of view. Not wasting saves money. Eating fresh food saves money. Saving energy saves money. Jordan has been collecting food donations that will make a killer chili for the masses. If you can help – I believe he is especially looking for a donation of dried beans – contact him and join the pod. You won’t believe the energy there!
