SPECIAL DAYS TO CELEBRATE!

Dryad said Oct 18, 2007, 3:18 PM:

HERE IS THE PLACE to post days other than birthdays that need celebraing–traditional or original–on our calendar of perfectly possible parties , because UN-BIRTHDAYS are every bit as fun to celebrate as the real deal!

HERE BEGINS PLAY POD'S YEAR-LONG CALENDAR OF CELEBRATIONS!

January 1 - The Artificial beginning of a manufactured year, which hasn't really much to do with “real” time. The  Julian Calendar says it is the beginning … (Dryad)

Last night you drank way too much gin-again
Blew new resolutions & full of chagrin-again
The way things keep repeating is such a sin-again
The resolution thing is beginning to wear thin-again
Maybe this will be the year that you win-again
Instead of always taking it on the old chin-again
Going to lose 50 lbs and be OhSO thin-again
Make peace with all of your extended kin-again
Hoping not to end up in the old looney-bin-again
Still you know what really counts is what is within-again
So start it all over with a nice big grin-again
Empty out and open to the light within-again
Open up zaadz and get ready to log in-again …  (Dryad)

November 8 - Bahi Dooj - This is a real celebration, in India. It is a time to celebrate and honor siblings, a day for saying “thank you” and “I love you” to brothers and sisters. I have never been able to find the exact date, only that it is in the late fall. Several years ago I just randomly assigned it a day.  Those of us who have lost siblings know that this is a very important celebration, something that doesn't happen often enough; something that is often put off until it is too late. Take a moment this Bahi Dooj to call or write to your siblings. Thank them for being in your life and say you're sorry about the time you tied them up and stuck them in the closet - even if you really aren't.

    December 26 - Kwanzaa - Boxing Day

December 31 - New Year's Eve ( take 2 ibuprofen and drink 32 oz. of Gatorade before you go to sleep and when you wake up. Don't look at ME, I drink apple juice, just passing on the wisdom. Makes more sense than the traditional raw egg and Worcestershire sauce  anyway. *shudder*)

My half birthday is January 16th and the anniversary of my 29th birthday is June 16th but the truth is I still feel 25, it's just that it took me 5 years to remember my anniversary. Actually I'm more 25 now then when I was 25 and my wife, February 21, thinks I'm 15 when I'm acting older then 2, my daughter, July 31, is totally perplexed because I keep changing the story and my son January 21 doesn't care unless the present looks like a dvd.
And what I really want to know is:
Did you buy your lunch or walk to school?
You know I think she is right, acting your age is so overrated.

Just to say about Feb 2nd (1st/2nd) being a bit like the awesome convergence of Hopi/Tibetan prophesies… Feb 2nd is Imbolc, Feast of Pan, Festival of Snowdrops, besides of course Candlemas/Brigits Day

Also February 13th is St Wanda's Day (since 1995, and I was initimately privy to its conception!): In Britt's own words:

“So, on February 13, 1995 I created St. Wanda’s Day. Basically, it’s a day to do a little something nice for yourself so that when Valentine’s rolls around, and its not the incredibly romantic, meaningful, love-filled day that we know it can’t be, but secretly hope it will be, we don’t feel so badly, ‘cause we had a kick-ass time the day before.

So do a little something special for yourself on the 13th, or send your pal who is having the pre-Valentine’s Day blues a St. Wanda’s Day card and have fun!”

    May I add:
Corrina & Ryan did their Dec 21st winter solstice longest night wedding ceremony in the sole/soul presence of their officient/witness person (1990)

And completed with their June 21st  zenith of year full tribal gathering public wedding ceremony  in medieval castle (Featherstone) on Scottish/English border (1991)

Oh; how could I not say this, especially since I am posting it on February 28th, 2008, Eleanor Wasson's 100th birthday!

November 11, my birthday, yes, it's Veteran's Day, in England it's Remembrance Sunday, also known as Poppy Day. But really, originally, 1918 to be exact, it was declared Armistice Day; war to end all wars, declaration of the end of all wars. Of course we know that they all tripped up and scraped their knees again again but the the point is Eleanor Wasson danced in the streets all night as a 10 year old, celebrating what they wholly believed to be true: No More War.. Ever.. Period.

To sit with Eleanor in circle now is to know that all is not lost. That night she danced is as vivid now as if it was last week ,and has inspired her, her whole life to challenge people to be the best they can be. She is, for instance, the most named woman in the US Senate who is not a politician because she has written a constant stream of letters to Senators, to praise their courage or to poke them should they seem to need reminding of their oath! Eleanor convened the circle of women (of which I am one, and Hamsa Johanna is another..) which morphed in WomenRise for Global Peace http://www.womenrise.org/aboutUs.html ~

Since I was always told by my family that I was their “Armistice baby”, you can imagine my great joy to find myself swirled into Eleanor's universe. This week I was called upon and privileged to re-enact, in her presence and for her 100th birthday celebration, her 10 year old self ecstatic Armistice dance of celebration. I am complete!

Mamakat…You may find it fun to add National Grouch Day to your list! It is October 15th! What is sooo much fun is the more you try to be a grouch, the less of a grouch you are and the funnier it gets. At the residence where I work, I went around with the camera asking each person to make a grouchy face. You’ll be surprised how hard that is when your really trying to do it! Every single person broke out in laughter! It might be fun to post photos of ourselves or web-finds of funny grouch faces that day. I posted a whole wall of them and it was one of our favorite fun days of the year. PE

Just got this from World Wildlife Fund, that March 29th is Earth Hour.  I am including the e-mail below in case anybody wants more info:-

On March 29, 2008, we're asking you–and millions of others–to switch off the lights for one hour during Earth Hour.

    What is Earth Hour?
Earth Hour is a global event created to symbolize that each of us, working together, can make a positive impact on climate change–no matter who we are or where we live. Starting at 8 pm local time on March 29, 2008, individuals, communities and businesses will “turn off the lights” in cities around the world for one hour. This simple act will not only heighten awareness of the impacts of climate change on our world, but also inspire individuals and businesses to take practical action to reduce their own carbon footprint.

San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge will be going dark for Earth Hour

Where will the lights go off?
Everyone around the world is encouraged to be involved and shut the lights off in their homes and businesses. Major participation is planned in 25 cities around the world, on six continents. Four Earth Hour flagship cities in the U.S.–Chicago, Atlanta, Phoenix and San Francisco–are leading the way. Other participating U.S. cities include Denver, Miami and Charlotte.

    What can I do?
    1. Sign up to participate in Earth Hour.
Pledge to turn off your lights from 8 - 9 pm on Saturday, March 29, 2008. During that hour, replace old light bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) and commit to reducing energy consumption in the year ahead.

    2. Tell your friends about Earth Hour.
Share this message with your friends and family to encourage them to join with you (and millions of others) in support of Earth Hour.
