This is my “poor me” monkey. Good for avoiding issues.
Sigh, I got myself up there…

Me outside peeking at life instead of inside living it…Good way to avoid taking a chance.

If all else fails and I find myself actually in a relationship, well, she is my very effective secret weapon.

~~And here is where I am heading, I am claiming and owning this!~~ Nope, changed my mind. This is me co-dependent. Will keep looking for where I want to go.

Your monkeys are like the baggage I carry around ladies! I remember a dream of being stuck in a bus station with tons of baggage and was unable to carry it all!

I have an addiction to carbs! I love carbs. Being a diabetic now, I cannot eat them…and I was ravenous for them all the time. I have already had gastric bypass…and then gained weight back again…isn't this a damn monkey?

The who that is my monkey is the emptiness that needs to fill me whenever I feel hungry for something I am not getting…whatever that is…
it sucks!

and.. then feeling small and well needing someone to hold onto…
but that somone is gone.

You know Aley, I think a lot of people with addictions/overuse of food, alchohol, tobacco may have oral fixations and maybe there is a tie in with the nurturing we received when we were babies nursing. I read a report that babies weaned too early, have been known to develop oral fixations later in life. Was it Dryad or Peri (or you) that said we may need to go to the inner child (in this case the inner infant) and nurture it? Who did I just talk to about this… It might not have been on zaadz. They have adults role-playing at the age the “trauma” may have occurred so you have adults crawling on the floor and going through the stages of development.

I absolutely agree that with these we are filling a void. When we stop doing an addictive behavior, we have to fill that spot with something healthy otherwise another unhealthy behavior will take the spot.

We may need some infant monkeys, here :)

this has been a well studied theory and many of the conclusions do point to childhood. And for my own observations I would agree.

What is to become of me? I'm a monkey in the Chinese astrology. Does this mean I'm my own monkey? And all that surrounds the monkey is me? If the monkey is me then ain't I all the monkeys that I have related to me. So If I learn who I am then the monkey will no longer exist? No because I am a monkey so then I would not exist. Dam monkeys are freaking confusing me!

Hmmm…my dad went into the TTB hospital when I was 18 months old for a year! This was a terrible void. I was not allowed to see him except in a window, for obvious reasons…and that oral fixation sounds right…and I am glad I never took up smoking!

Aley, I think you may have something there with your dad in the hospital during some of your formative years. The 0-5 time period in a child's life is the most critical. The problem for me is I don't remember much at all from that time.

I believe we all have some addiction or abuse something :) I have a friend who avoids things/fills the void by running daily 12 miles and regularly 26.2 mile marathons. He has a wife and a child. I feel he tolerates them more than appreciates them.

Another cycles through relationships, another through sex, both hoping each will fill the void.

Other friends buy books, music, food, clothes, toys but neglect to pay the household bills.

Me, I made peace with one addiction, working with another one, have a third staring me in the face that I really must deal with sooner than later. Baby steps, baby steps, baby steps…
