Jenny I just wanted to say how much I enjoy this group and reading of your experiences and queries in regard to dreams. For me, this is the "richest" pod on Gaia and I haven't even been anywhere close to half way through the discussions and posts. Thanks to all who contribute and to Ian for growing this group! All symbols are personal to the dreamer but many are general.
The first and/or most powerful mental association the dreamer has with the symbol is indicative of its relevance in the dream.

Hi Ian,

You are right. Dream imagery and symbols are very personal.

Dreams consist of energy and that energy is INTERPRETED by the dreamer. Therefore, if I dream of a tiger and you dream of a tiger then the interpretations are likely to be different, because a tiger to me is different than a tiger is to you. Some people may feel fear when they see a tiger, whilst another may see a powerful predator, whilst another yet may see a perceive a cuddly kitty cat.

Some symbols are cultural. For instance, a dream about water may represent one thing to a person living on a small island, but to a person living in the desert or trying to survive a drought may interpret the symbol differently.

These are important things to keep in mind and I highly recommend that people create their own dream dictionaries. Don't get me wrong. This thread is valid and can be useful, but it is important  to take each definition defined with a grain of salt.

Hi Ian and Mark: I agree with both of you on this point. I find that most people who need someone else to interpret their dreams may only really need to be ASKED what the symbol means to them. Lynda

Lynda:  Interesting, I just went through a dream on this group, and you’re right, it is my interpretation based on my experience.  But, if we live in a uni-verse, then could it be that in our sharing of ourselves we help to initiate an unfolding of something universal within the other?  In my dreams, I tend to have more cosmic than personal themes.  But, personal themes are not different from cosmic in my view.  I am a mirror to the whole.  For example, the atoms in my body float about in the same propotion to space as stars float about in relation to cosmic space.  (I’m oversimplifying for atoms are not really concrete but manifest based on being observed…they behave more like waves as per quantum physics genius, Heisenberg).

In other words, it can also be fun to say, what does it mean to you and then eventually say this is what it means to me and then allow that to become dialogue.  Sort of like kids playing “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.”  So, when I said on the other dream that I interpreted and played with on this group, I let it be known that the interpretation represented my love for Deep Ecology.  So, what am I saying?  I guess I’m saying that it’s fun to look at a dream from many angles.

What is one is multiple and what is multiple is one.  It’s like the Motto of the United States, “E Pluribus Unim,” In the many is one and in the one many (not that the country lives up to this in this day of standardization).  Or, as per the Three Muskateers, “All for one and one for all.”  What I’m saying is that there is a point where the many melts into one and the one into many, hence fleshing out multiple layers of meaning ultimately reveals the one.  Does that make sense or am I totally off the wall?  Like my wife often says when I ask an “either - or” question.  The answer is “Yes.”  In other words it’s both / and and either - or.

Taking this further, if we see ourselves in our enemies eyes instead of an “us vs them” mentality….would war stop?  Are we all relatives?  RElative as modern day science says it means separation…your view is relative to your point of view.  But, relative actually means related.  Hence your view is related to my view and OUR view is related to the cosmic.  Now, I know I’m going off topic, which again is a crazyness for me for in the specific I see the cosmic. Poor Ian is probably saying, “there he goes again!”

Kidding aside.  This was fun.  Whoops, it was also written way back in October!  Oh, dear.  Take care.  Burl

Yes, everyone has own dream language, which describes his or her personality. On the other hand, I am mostly fascinated with different type of dreams, archetypal dreams, which came from deep unconsciousness, telling about general things of humanity, society and personal path. Somehow, they could be historical switchers and general contributors.

You will find plenty of these types here, Vesna, just search away and let us have your comments. Perhaps to the agronomist I should have said ‘Dig deep!’ Ha ha!

Hello Burl!
I guess that you find own best soil environment! For dreams (and life as whole), its just open mind and honesty.

I’d go with open mind and honesty.  I’d also think about what I fed it from both internal nutrients as well as external.
