The Lying Sign (flash fiction)

Near my house there is a yellow sign with black lettering. This sign is at an intersection that I must go through to get to work. The black lettering declares "NO EXIT" for one of the roads.

When I walked, I saw the sign, and believed it. I took another road to work.

When I bought a bicycle, I decided to be a little adventurous. One day, I took the road marked NO EXIT and son of a gun! The road came up to a park, and the park had a path, and the path got me closer to work! Son of a gun, the sign was a lie! I could have shaved minutes off my walk going through the park.

On my bike, I would ride by and look the sign square in the "I" and say, "You're a lie!"

The sign was a lie, but the city had put the sign up. The city must be a lie. And all the people in the city, and the road, and the park, and the world. It must all be a lie, or why would that sign say NO EXIT when obviously there was an exit.

When I bought a car, I rode by the sign and yelled, "You're a lie!" at the lying sign, and drove my new car into the park.

Don't worry, no one died during my accident. Kids don't play in the park anymore.
