I am conducting a poll between now and election day trying to measure voters' conscience votes versus who they actually plan to vote for.

The results so far have been, to say the least, interesting.

it's the economy, [not] stupid[ity].

the media interferes because the military industrial complex is the backbone, if not the entirety, of the US economy. War (on drugs, agriculture and people) is our primary export. War depends upon widespread fear, which only the media can produce. The same Wall Street that owns the military, agriculture and drug industries, also owns the media . . . they call it smart investing.

Hi. Ron Paul has good points about getting us out of Iraq and it's good to see his energy around that. I don't agree with him, however, about domestic issues. He's against things that i think are really important like universal health care, education funding, social services, etc. because he believes all that should be handled by private enterprise. We've seen what private enterprise has done to our country and how allowing them the rights to support our citizens offers a few huge pocketfulls of gold, and hurts the people who really need the services. I'd be happy with non for profits that are mandated by the government, but in some way controlled by the people... maybe in some kind of collaborative/cooperative model to do those jobs, but not profit making private enterprise. Kucinich is the only one that I have read about that cares passionately and has acted passionately for all the things i care about...labor, civil rights, education, universal health care, standing by and protecting the bill of rights, stopping corporate abuses and takeover of our government and world, etc. He's a little guy with a lot of conviction, strength, and action that has historically and consistently proven himself.

Ron Paul was denyed by FOX to participate in the debates in New Hampshire. (As if we need ear muffs, because we cannot handle such a change??)

Why does the media have so much power over the elections? And as citizens how do we spread the messages of those ignored to the people?

Also, kind of on the same lines. Many candidates jump to the sight of money. Which candidates are disregarding the effect of money and are out to support those in the low income strata?

I am surprised this pod is not more active considering the presidential debates have began.

If I could vote (I am not a legal US Citizen) I would vote for Ron Paul. His ideas are fresh and a good way to get this country THINKING again.

I am here to learn more about the upcoming elections and hopefully get some good debates started of our own.

Discrimination on the basis of race is unconstitutional. Should that therefore be the basis of discriminating between candidates? Why not judge the candidates on their platforms, and of course, as was famously said, not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character?

I don't know how much it has to do with the sex issue. I would love to have a woman president...and I would love to have a black person as president. I would vote for Obama over Hillary merely because his politics are a little more progressive than hers.... but actually the one who i plan to vote for in the primaries is neither black nor a woman.... it's someone who has the purest history in Congress of voting for everything I believe in without being corrupted by corporate influences, personal greed or party politics.... Kucinich. Kucinich may be lilly white male, but his voting record in Congress is the best in terms of human rights, civil rights, education, labor, environmental issues, environmental racism, anti corporate abuse nationally and internationally, single payer universal healthcare, higher education, women's rights, etc. He's proven himself to put his votes to back his words and to me that matters more than getting a woman or a black person in.

Ok..its early days yet, but sadly it really will come down to this issue. Does America prefer a woman or a black man in the house. Forget the politics its all the same spin.. I am going with Obama. I sense an evolution in consciousness. We want change and hope even if its illusionary.

I totally agree! We have nothing to lose by voting for Kucinich in the primaries. If everyone who believes in him does vote for him, it will make quite a statement, and who knows... sometimes miracles DO happen!

I think that I probably posted this previously on the wrong pod. This is probably the more appropriate pod to post this on....... It's just to let you know about a movement going on to get the Democrats to not take progressives for granted.... we're trying to organize masses of people to remove themselves from the Democrat party after the state's primary. I'll be voting for Kucinich at the Primary and the next day I'll remove myself from the Democratic Party (unless of course by some miracle, he wins). If enough people do this, with a statement about why, maybe they'll start to take notice. Miriam
