What would a world flag look like.

ohmsmom said Jun 19, 4:44 AM:

My son and I have been talking about a world flag.  One that represents the understanding that we all have one thing in common, home.  One world, One home.

His vision is for this flag flown by individuals, businesses, countries, towns, cities…… who wish to reinforce our common interest, and that is our common home.

My hope in posting here, is that you will ask a child what this flag should look like and share their answer here.

Perhaps we can together, with the help of our children, we can co-create and manifest this flag and embrace what results from the effort.

Great idea Shirley!

I like so many of Ohmdogs designs already. How about something similar to resolutiohm!  My son, in college, says “party” is a nice concept of course. As a mother I think college students could find some extra stellar ways celebrate, like music, dancing and fine vegan food :) But anyway, if my son's input counts, you might consider adding some confetti to the surrounding sky. ;) He has a good point that it is important that we celebrate and be happy!
I feel that showing our connection to the kosmos is important. Why limit this? :) Some stars or something in the background might be nice, as well?

You can add anything from our multi-generational, multi-country (sun/earth) design if you like, as well. Michael Grove from Gaia, can put the algorithms from any childs handwriting in his electronic tablet, and create a design. Might be cool to develop that somehow. Lot's of choices!

Thanks for this great thought Shirley!

love,

j

thank you for offering your artwork as a contribution to the world flag!

when i asked philip what he thought, i told him that i really liked emily's drawing of the world.  he responded telling me it would never work.  when i asked why he simply responded, “which side of the world is the flag going to have? …………showing just one side simply won't do”

that is when i decided we need to hear from the children!

i love the paper cutout or children holding hands.

when i was speaking with Philip about what the flag would look like and mentioned a picture of the earth, he said “that won't work”

when i asked why
he asked “which side of the world are you going to use?”

It could be earth wreathed in cloud so we can't see which particular side of the world it is, or if an animator is clever enough it could spin, and the paper cut outs dance, virtual on line flag? lol.

There would no longer be a need for a flag.  Ethnocentricity would shift the need for an external means of identification of the individuality of a group that was complete and included all.

A circle representing earth, filled with interlinked triquetras to represent our interconnectedness with all, stamped with a dove of peace? ( See the carolinguan cruss further down the article that could be added to, to fill the earth circle)
Triquetras represent body mind and spirit. The circle could have wings representing the rising unity.

I've always loved the Earth Day flag… even if Philip raises a wonderful question. What about the Flag of Planet Terra? I think it beautifully represents the sphere we share without committing to one side, and it even includes the moon…

My logo with the sun and earth was created as a multigenerational, multinational project on an electronic drawing tablet. We used a childs algorithmic signature as the base for the sun, which we all put ideas into, together as a team.  The sun is based on the sacred geometic shape of the vesica piscis, also known as the womb of the universe. A place were two become one. A healing space.

I think including sun, moon, space and stars would be cool…the double star tetrahedron is a healing shape as well that could be used.

I also LOVE the heart shaped earth, above :)

This technique could be used for an international effort. Collaboration is always fun. But kids need a big voice right now, I feel.  :) xo j

I am really liking the Planet Terra concept.  I can't wait till I can ask the kids their thoughts on all of this.

I am wondering if there is a universal symbol for our planet.  I guess not, or we wouldn't even be talking here.  I suppose the heart is the closest thing :)

Don't you, ohmsmom? I found it lovely as well–land, water, and air (to include the beings that fly in the sky and swim in the sea), in a beautiful rainbow and the moon in her role. I suppose the sun is missing, though it's there in an implied fashion–the rim of the moon reflects it. :)

amazing thought on the sun being in there :)

i found an effort who came up with a symbol that could very possibly be the solution! - their symbol is free for anybody to use, and certainly could be modified with any one of the great ideas here to individualize flags or what ever!

information can be found at www.onewiththeearth.org

i really like the effort made there.

The 'one with the earth' might be my favorite! (Text excluded, of course.) It's got a bit of an ankh look to it, and I love how it includes the sun and the earth and the water. Nice find. :)

It is known currently at the flag of surrender or truce.

Looks like lots of other people have tried to answer the question of what a world flag would look like.

Eternally Optimystic1, I was able to get a picture for you :)

Maybe a white flag with a box of crayons to symbolize the opportunity to create infinite expressions………………

I love the white flag with box of crayons idea!!! One of those 124 crayon boxes (or is there a bigger box by now? LOL…and non-crayola so there's no copyright infringement :-P)
Signifies all the colors of the rainbow, diversity, creativity and all that good stuff.
Of course, a huge reminder that the World is what we make it =)

Something that represents every living and non living thing on this plant. I still like the image of the planet Earth. No matter which side we are on its the only one we have.  Every part of Her: top, bottom, middle, sides, center is important. Perhaps something with the Moon as well since it governs many actions on Earth.

Tough one indeed as some folks would see just an image of the Earth too treehuggerish; others too plain. Even more would bring up how to face the image not wanting one country another.  Sigh.

How about we just go back to the image of Pangaea that way everyone is included.

I agree with sanmugan … plain white … I surrender …
I surrender to peace
I surrender to love
I surrender to grace

And this way, should we move on to other worlds, we won't have to start all over again bloodying the darn things up over which planet should wield supremacy

Plus we can support the H2O2 and bleach industries when the silly heraldic signs get all gray from the excess carbon in the atmosphere ;-)

My apologies,
perhaps I ought to have suggested gray in the first place rather than get cynical
I surrender to the truth
I surrender to grays
