Who would you most like to see speak in person?

Siona said Jul 8, 3:14 PM:

I read an article recently on the growing interest in speakers and lecturers over the past few years, and it made me think a bit about what speaker or teacher or luminary I'd like to see present. If you could see anyone talk (live), who would you choose?

I've been fortunate enough to see Arielle talk a few times, and oh, Light Seeker–I'm sure one day you'll get to as well. She's something else. :)

Hello Angel of Healing,
I looked at your profile and see that you are living in Europe so you are a long way from Boulder Colorado but Ken will be speaking at Boulder Integral on August 1st 2009.  Here is the anouncement:  http://www.boulderintegral.org/2009/07/ken-wilber-comes-to-boulder-integral/

Dale Husband: Me too. I was in high school when he died, and I remember being absolutely stunned when I found out; I'd never before felt terribly touched by the death of a stranger, but learning of Sagan's death… well, I cried. He had such a beautiful soul, and such wisdom, and such a heart. I wish there were more like him in the world.

I am just your humble fellow traveler, you are too kind.

As for myself, I like to see speaking myself to me in person.
Why?

yes Jagdish, and also the following verses from Bhagwad Gita:

uddhared atmanatmanam natmanam avasadayet
atmaiva hy atmano bandhur atmaiva ripur atmanah

“One must deliver himself with the help of his mind, and not degrade himself. The mind is the friend of the conditioned soul, and his enemy as well.” Bhagavad Gita 6.5

bandhur atmatmanas tasya yenatmaivatmana jitah
anatmanas tu satrutve vartetatmaiva satru-vat

“For him who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends; but for one who has failed to do so, his mind will remain the greatest enemy.”  Bhagavad Gita 6.6

jitatmanah prashantasya paramatma samahitah
sitosna-sukha-duhkhesu tatha manapamanayoh

“For one who has conquered the mind, the Supersoul is already reached, for he has attained tranquillity. To such a man happiness and distress, heat and cold, honor and dishonor are all the same.” Bhagavad Gita 6.7

…. and many many more :)

My pick is Dr Wayne Dyer.  I have followed his writings since the early 1970s and have bought his books and DVDs.  I wish I lived in the US then I could get to see him in person and perhaps even speak to him.

I would love to see Walt Disney speak in person, that is if he was still alive. But I would perfer to be able to talk to him on a one on one basis. With the one on one basis thing, I would also love to have talked to Michael Jackson. There was alot of controversy concerning him during his last years but honestly his spirit was so child like and loving, something amazing for an adult. Also what he conveyed through his dancing and singing was utterly amazing.

Barack… of course!

It's crunch time.

Barack is now, 6 months into his presidency, no more popular than George W. Bush or Richard Nixon were at the same time in their presidency.

THE BIG STINK:  The middle (independent voters)… not Democrats nor Republicans…

…but middle of the road Americans…

…think Barack wants to spend too much money!

Mo'  money, mo' money, mo' money!

Taking too much care of Hillarycare…

…and nobody voted for President Nancy Pelosi !

Barack's cause is by no means hopeless.

WHAT SHOULD OBAMA DO ???

Barack needs to get his hands dirty, just like the rest of us!

How can I talk to him personally… SIONA ???

On another forum someone asked the question 'Who would you most like to grab a beer with' and there I spontaneously answered Oliver Sacks. When I saw this question about who I would like to see speak in person, there are many that I would like to see, not specifically Oliver Sacks. So I thought what made the difference, that I would choose him for some informal chatting.

I think mostly because of his enormous interest in the human brain, his unpredudiced way of looking at the world and above all his obsession with the elements of the periodic table.

I read somewhere that as a child he always did chemical experiments at home. And he always had a piece of paper with the periodic table in his pocket, so it felt as if he was carying the whole world with him all the time.

So it would be great to talk with someone like him, not to listen to him specifically (although I would like that too) but to just chat about whatever comes up. I can not imagine it is something I would not find interesting.

Annemieke said Aug 6, 3:10 AM:

Siona: Yes, great article. And really a very interesting subject. I do have to read that book, Musicophilia, especially after I read the following in the sideline of that interview:

“There is a tendency in philosophy to separate the mind, the intellectual operations, from the passions, the emotions. This tendency moves into psychology, and thence into neuroscience. The neuroscience of music, in particular, has concentrated almost exclusively on the neural mechanisms by which we perceive pitch, tonal intervals, melody, rhythm, and so on, and, until very recently, has paid little attention to the affective aspects of appreciating music. Yet music calls to both parts of our nature—it is essentially emotional, as it is essentially intellectual. Often when we listen to music, we are conscious of both: we may be moved to the depths even as we appreciate the formal structure of a composition”.
