Hi Zephyr! How have you been? Happy Thanksgiving.

That is an extreme situation and what was going on in her home is very sad. But before judging anybody more facts need to be looked at. (they could have been the neighbors from hell) No matter what happens we have the right to privacy and what goes on in our own homes is our responsibility. Not someone else's. If abuse is happening then it is up to the adults concerned to do something or if a neighbor see's and hears it reports it to the police/child protective services. But a neighbor does not have the right to infringe on another persons human rights no matter what they "think".
Only criminals deserve that kind of life sentence.
Its one thing to step in when assistance is truly needed and another all together to interfere in someones life.
None of us have the right to "play God"
We do however have the right to be responsible for ourselves:)

While I agree we all need to respect privacy, yesterday I read about a woman who fled her home calling for help after an abusive situation and was bleeding from a head wound, not one neighbour came to her aid, they were all afraid or not inclined to help. Every year children are killed i their own homes for similar reasons,
is that neighbourly? My father taught me different, he once saved a woman whose husband was chasing her with a knife that he used to cut tyres. , I wonder what might have happened, had my father not intervened, he was a good neighbour, and did many kindnesses we never knew about untill after his death.

Everyone always says how hard relationships are, but I think when you're with the right person - it's not that hard. There will moments of disagreement, but not arguing. There will be times when you need to slip away for a few days to replenish yourself, but you're not escaping. There will be moments of silence, but never with flared tempers.

I've been married for 21 years to a mild mannered, sincere, compassionate man. And we are as different as two people could possibly be - though I am also sincere and compassionate :) but from music to colors - we are different. But we've always given each other room to grow.

And though we don't agree on many things, we've always kept respect in our relationship. Without it - there would be no relationship.

It was harder for her than for me. I'm able to handle it more, it seems. But, unfortunately, it couldn't work for us.

One does not need to claim for human rights if all respect each other and get on with their duties/responsibilities towards one another. Such as if one respects the life of another, one does not have to look for protection for life or live in fear and no need to claim for the right to live. Thus, good relationship is built between or among neighbours. This is how one can become a good neighbour to another.

As stated by Liza that setting example or leading an exemplary life through honesty is highly important and valued.

Hi Liza, i do agree with your idea and i hope other people following your way could create a good atmosphere, good environment with good neighbours where peace lies in the lives of everyone.

A neighbour is someone who does not create problems either to himself/herself or to others, seeks peace and helps others to seek. Thus, a good environment with good neighbours is created.

The following 5 factors are indeed very important in building peace and harmony within oneself and others, creating integration among the neighbours.

1. One refrains from killing and discourages others to kill.
2. One refrains from stealing and discourages others to steal.
3. One refrains from sexual misconduct and discourages others to do so.
4. One refrains from telling lies and discourages others to do so.
5. One refrains from intoxication drinks and discourages others having so.

One possessing all these qualities is a good neighbour who doesn't want to be disturbed by others and makes no effort to do so to others.

In my opinion a good neighbor are people who MYOB. Live their own lives focus on their own families and do not cause harm, mental, physical or spiritual to another.

My husband and I are in agreement that our best neighbor is nature thus far:) LOL

Am I a Good Neighbor? I am a neighbor that people dream about having. We are quiet, do not get involved in peoples "personal" business or lives and have only ever gotten involved when we have seen abuse or neglect/irresponsibility to an animal or a child or both. Or disrespectful conduct that disturbs the peace in the surrounding community and to us personally.
In so far as what goes on in peoples homes we are very respectful of peoples privacy as we too value our own. (Treats others as you would wish to be treated? Right?)
I do not wish to "be friends with" the people that live here, I do not want to be surrounded by negativity. My husband and I want to move away to a more positive atmosphere. We are both unhappy for different reasons and what we have in common is the appreciation of nature, peace and quite and privacy.
Quite frankly my neighbors "could have had" a neighbor that actually cared about them. But because of their own negativity it is now too late for that. It is done. Very sad actually. I think it would not have been so bad for me here had things been different.
I did nothing to hurt anybody here or any one of them for them to treat me they way they have.
All I have ever been most of my life is a kind person and really I want to be in a place where those around me will value that now. I'm not perfect, but I am a positive person to be around.
Every living thing I know has told me this. So I would rather live in a place that speaks the truth, then a place that would try to hurt me with lies.
A place where being a gentle and loving soul is significant.

I believe we all need to listen to our inner voice to hear our soul tell us what is right for us. Beyond that we really should not judge others, which is not easy I admit. I constantly judge our politicians & other humans for the destruction of our lovely planet, yet realize that I too have a negative footprint (although I try to minimize it more than most). Yes I am a vegetarian, edging closer to vegan, but I chose that path years ago because that was my heart's message - and when my mind forgot that calling, my body became very ill, until I reunited mind, body & spirit again to my correct path.
If she likes writing stories, accept that in her, which doesn't mean you have to stay together or break up, just that you accept that it is part of who she is. It is much better that she be creative & write than stifle that creativity because of censorship & become angry or depressed inside.

It comes in waves for me, sometimes through pain, sometimes through Love, sometimes I just feel the need to do something so I don't go insane, though I've learned that sanity is a relative concept in this world. I guess you just have to find your own way, maybe this could help...
