I'm just kind of dipping my toes in the whole raw food thing (although I've been a vegetarian for over 10 years and have done a lot of juicing) but I've found that mixing an apple in to just about anything will make it more tasty!

I've been saving up for a better juicer then what I have so I can do more of the leafy juices.

Sherry

Maybe you can try green smoothies first. Not quite as bitter as the green juice. Just blend a couple fruits with water, then add a big handful of green like spinach, or dinosaur kale, arugula (bitter), endives (bitter)... Experiment and you'll find the combinations you like. I started that over a year ago and this is now my regular breakfast before going to work.

Favorite juices: carrot, celery, 1/2 apple, 1 in. slice ginger. umm.
Lately, also doing carrot and pear, though sweeter so not too often.

I have been waiting with anticipation for the completion of this documentary. I think it will do amazing things for people and I hope it gets passed around for maximum viewing.
I spent a month working at the Tree of Life in June 06 and got to meet Keith, the guy you see encouraging the 6 people in the trailer. He is very dedicated to the TOL and to its mission.

The young African American man you see in the forefront continued the program at home and I believe turned on several members of his family to the raw life style. He was due to be fitted with an insulin pump prior to entering the TOL and chose this option instead. Like I said, I cannot wait to see this. I plan on showing it to my high school kids at school.

Lately I have been making a simple apple, carrot, and celery concotion. We use a champion juicer. I know green drinks are the best for you, but I am still trying to WANT them, I just don't care for the flavour. But, this summer we made jar after jr of cucumber juice, when the garden was really producing.

      Hi everyone-
Has anyone seen the trailer for "Raw For 30 Days". It's a documentary about Six people who normally eat fast food, who try going 100% raw for a month. It features doctors, experts, and raw foodists are interviewed including Gabriel Cousens, MD, David Wolfe, and Woody Harrelson.

I am new to raw foods and very interested in hearing from others who are raw foodists and people who are trying to change their lives for the better. Many people in my family have diabetes and I have changed my diet and gone raw to prevent myself from also getting diabetes.

I found the trailer on Youtube at:

i would like to remind everyone about asteya. we should not take what is not meant for us. science tells us that animals produce milk for their young. it is not my right to take anything from another living being, even if it is "just milk" and not killing the animal.

Overeating on a Raw Food Diet

Paul Nison on Overeating

This month my article is about overeating. I chose to write abut this topic because, even though most people overeat all year, they especially overeat around the time of the holidays.

I have found that people do not eat and drink for nourishment only. Most people go way beyond their nourishment needs. Their need for nourishment becomes a pleasure to fulfill their addictions. How many people have heard that too much pleasure can be a bad thing? That is very true, and indulging in the pleasure of eating and drinking too often has left our world full of sick people, crying for help but not willing to give up their pleasers that are causing the problem. Many people do not even know that overeating is the cause. (Drink is not limited to alcohol, today many people consume many different beverages simply for pleasure, coffee, soda, energy drinks, etc.)

People are treating their own body as waste dumps, stuffing as much food and drink in as possible. Overeating might seem harmless, and a person can seem to get away with it for many years, but it is slowly leading to disease inside the body. Nothing takes more energy from the body than dealing with too much food. It drains our energy, creates disease and intoxifies our blood stream, leading to many deadly problems.

My good friend Dr. Fred Bisci has this to say about overeating:

Overeating creates havoc in the body, causing improper digestion and improper elimination. When the large intestine retains food longer than it should, harmful bacterial action occurs. The result is that gases and toxins are formed. They are absorbed by the tiny vessels on the walls of the bowel and poison the entire bloodstream. This is known as auto-intoxication.- Dr. Fred Bisci

It is so sad that people are conditioned to over-consume food. More money is spent on food each year than gas and medical care combined. These people who are overeating are also using more gas driving to and from the doctor and medical facilities, resulting in more money spent on medical care when they overeat.

"Man lives on 1/3 of what he eats. The doctor lives on the other 2/3's"
Why do people eat so much?

Most people eat for false hunger. It is important to learn the difference between hunger and appetite. Most people have never felt true hunger, but they say all the time, "I'm so hungry." This is just your programmed appetite kicking in. It usually happens when you see or smell something you like. Many times food was the last thing on your mind until you see a commercial or billboard with an advertisement for food. Once people start, they just can't seem to stop.

People in most of the civilized world don't eat out of hunger; they eat for pleasure. There is nothing wrong with a little pleasure. A little pleasure has never hurt anyone. However, a lot of pleasure has killed many. Learn to control your pleasure. You must gain control. It's fine to experience the pleasure of food, but overdoing it turns into overeating. Learn to insure that all your nutrient needs are met while reducing your caloric intake to the amount needed. The right number of calories is different for everyone, but you can be sure that the higher the quality of the food (the closer it is to nature), the fewer the calories needed.
Boredom is another major reason why people overeat. Keeping busy is a great way to avoid thinking about food. The body can last for weeks without food. It is very rare for anyone to reach the point of true hunger.

If one doesn't reach true hunger, how does he or she know when it is time to eat?
The answer is to eat when you feel you need food for its value, and not for emotional reasons. And then, when you consume food, limit it only to what you feel your needs are, not your appetite. Most people could reduce their meals to half of the current amount, and their health would improve.

I suggest each person figure out their own nutritional needs not on "how they feel", but on a simple occasional blood profile. A simple blood test will show any differences if anyone is not getting enough, but just about everyone (who is healthy) can cut down to two high quality meals a day of fruits, vegetables, nuts and/or seeds. Once you figure out what you need, have set meal times to help yourself not eat more than your body needs.

As people consume more and more food, they usually look for more and more stimulants and condiments to relish their food. The best way to get out of this habit is to give your digestive organs a rest and stop consuming all foods for a certain amount of time. This is also known as a fast or fasting.

One of the major health secrets when it comes to eating is moderation and also occasional abstinence. Going one day a week without food is something I recommend to every person. Yes, fasting one day a week to give the body a complete rest is extremely beneficial. This can be done with water or green vegetable juices.

Most people overeat, and once they get started they just can't seem to stop themselves. Before eating, ask yourself, "Do I need to eat, or do I want to eat?" If the former, enjoy your meal, but be true to yourself. Your wellness will depend on it.

Yes i can see where you're coming from....

I do like raw food and should probably eat more of it as, as you say it stays alive inside of you with all those wonderful enzymes buzzing around.

Perhaps i will try to see what my body feels like eating more raw and less meat, just to what changes occur... i have a raw veg juice every day which i love.

With this in mind i also bought a vegan raw chocolate bar online which i can't wait to try! They have some great stuff by the way if you're interested? ..... detoxyourworld.com

thanks for making me think jan, i have been thinking for the past few days about eating meet and what it does to my body and about killing animals. Do they really need to die for me?

It occured to me when i heated up the oven the other day to do some roasted sweet potatoes, when i opened the door to put them in the heat poured out and whipped me in the face so much i had to stand back, and i thought oh gosh those little sweet pots are going in there, with the door closed!!!

I will be doing much more thinking about this topic and will definately keep you posted as i may need to pick your brains about raw diets......

I am still going to have raw cows milk. I have tried raw almond milk i made some about 6 months ago and it was very tasty, i may give it another go :-)

Yours sincerely

Dragonfly

Your body is telling you it needs meat and is reacting with joy to you eating it; the animal was happy and not mistreated; you are deeply grateful towards it for the nutrition; the environment is not compromised to get it all the way to your plate.

These are the main reasons some people choose not to eat meat, and it's definitely better than buying a chicken & bacon wrap out of a vending machine or some steaks at a supermarket. The problem is that it is only possible for a very small minority of people get their meat supply the way you do.

Exactly the same applies for dairy, although I don't believe we need any milk past our Mothers' milk, but of course that's for each (who can get their supply the way you can) to decide on their own. Again, the vast majority is consuming milk and yoghurt that comes from those disturbingly horrible dairy farms.

Raw veganism goes on the principle that the food you eat is still alive, even inside you, so you're not killing anything. In other words, cooking is the real murder...

      Friends,

This is some amazing new information about to spread like a wave around the world. The Anastasia books have swept Russia and have just been translated into English.

Read the excerpt below and if you are interested in ordering books you can do so directly from the publisher. The link is at www.ringingcedars.com

Please use the keyword 'GARDEN' when ordering. You just need to put the word 'GARDEN' into the 'promotional code' area in the order page.

Blessings to all of you,

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anastasia stated:

“Every seed you plant contains within itself an enormous amount of information about the Universe. Nothing made by human hands can compare with this information either in size or accuracy. Through the help of these data the seed knows the exact time, down to the millisecond, when it is to come alive, grow – what juices it is to take from the Earth, how to make use of the rays of the celestial bodies – the Sun, Moon and stars, what it is to grow into, what fruit to bring forth.

These fruits are designed to sustain Man’s life. More powerfully and effectively than any manufactured drugs of the present or future, these fruits are capable of counteracting and withstanding any disease of the human body. But to this end the seed must know about the human condition. So that during the maturation process it can satiate its fruit with the right correlation of substances to heal a specific individual of his disease, if indeed he has it or is prone to it.

“In order for the seed of a cucumber, tomato or any other plant grown in one’s plot to have such information, the following steps are necessary:

“Before planting, put into your mouth one or more little seeds, hold them in your mouth, under the tongue, for at least nine minutes.

“Then place the seed between the palms of your hands and hold it there for about thirty seconds. During this time it is important that you be standing barefoot on the spot of earth where you will later be planting it.

“Open your hands, and carefully raise the seed which you are holding to your mouth. Then blow on it lightly, warming it with your breath, and the wee little seed will know everything that is within you.

“Then you need to hold it with your hands open another thirty seconds, presenting the seed to the celestial bodies. And the seed will determine the moment of its awakening. The planets will all help it! And will give the sprouts the light they need to produce fruit especially for you.

“After that you may plant the seed in the ground. In no case should you water it right off, so as not to wash away the saliva which is now covering it, along with other information about you that the seed will take in. It can be watered three days after planting.

“The planting must be done on days appropriate to each vegetable (people already know this, from the lunar calendar). In the absence of watering, a premature planting is not as harmful as an overdue planting.

“It is not a good idea to pull up all the weeds growing in the vicinity of the sprouts. At least one of each kind should be left in place. The weeds can be cut back …”

According to Anastasia, the seed is thus able to take in information about the person who plants it, and then during the cultivation of its fruit it will pick up from the Universe and the Earth the optimum blend of energies needed for a given Man. The weeds should not be disposed of completely, as they have their own appointed function. Some weeds serve to protect the plant from disease while others give supplemental information. During the cultivation time it is vital to communicate with the plant – at least once during its growth period. And it is desirable to approach it and touch it during a full moon.

Anastasia maintains that the fruit cultivated from the seed in this manner, and consumed by the individual who cultivated it, is capable not only of curing him of any diseases of the flesh whatsoever but also of significantly retarding the aging process, rescuing him from harmful habits, tremendously increasing his mental abilities and giving him a sense of inner peace. The fruit will have the most effective influence when consumed no later than three days after harvesting.

The above-mentioned steps should be taken with a variety of plant species in the garden-plot.

It is not necessary to plant a whole row of cucumbers, tomatoes etc., in this manner; just a few plants each is enough.

The fruit of plants grown like this will be distinguished from other plants of the same species not only in taste. If analysed, it will be seen that they are also distinct in terms of the substances they contain.

When planting the seedlings, it is important to soften the dirt in the excavated hole with one’s fingers and bare toes, and spit into the hole. Responding to my question, “Why the feet?”, Anastasia explained that through perspiration from one’s feet come substances containing information about bodily diseases. This information is taken in by the seedlings. They transmit it to the fruit, which will thus be enabled to counteract diseases. Anastasia recommended walking around the plot barefoot from time to time...
