The Source vs. the Juice

FoodMagnetism said Aug 23, 2007, 5:01 PM:

In my opinion, it's best to eat the actual raw vegetable or fruit as opposed to drinking the juice whether fasting or not.

1. You will consume less calories but more nutrients.
2. You will consume important fiber which will help in the detox process

Fasting should only be done for spiritual reasons or in response to a serious illness.  Fasting for weight loss is thee worst possible thing you can do.  Most of the weight you lose will be muscle the result of which will be a messed up metabolism for a long time.

I have been interested in fasting recently and have noticed many detox programs that are for sale online.  I am not 100% sold on their value, however.

I am vegan and therefore do not eat a lot of what “clogs” the body in the first place.  I don't even indulge in many processed soy meats.  I avoid anything with cargeenan, like creamy soy products, and I eat veggies, pastas, fruits, protein shakes/bars, nuts, etc.  I am not raw food vegan but I enjoy my Nori wraps and other various products.

What would be a good cleansing detox for someone like me?  Sometimes I feel that I need it but that my body isn't being “abused” enough in the first place to warrant some hardcore detox program that claims I will literally see results when I go the bathroom (this was interesting to me, in the sense that we could be carrying so much inside that zaps our energy, vitality, etc, but was slightly difficult to imagine….)  I like the idea of just drinking versus eating but I would not be opposed to eating fruit or veggies depending.

Any info is great!

… without going into the expense of buying a 'cleansing kit' I would be partial to trying a 7 day detox consisting of fresh green juices 4 times x day or more.

or if you wanted a more gentle cleanse you could also try a mono diet consisting of one fruit or vegetable for a 3-7 day period.

If you chose fasting on juices alone you will be allowing the body to go into what is called autolysis.
Autolysis is the process where the body begins digesting its own damaged and aged cells and tissues. This is a process that naturally occurs on the second or third day of a fast.

The only supplement I would suggest taking during this type of cleanse is metabolic enzymes which aid in the digestion and reconstruction of old tissues.
And in order to effectvely release the toxins that will have loosened-up it would be equally important to do an enema once x day and if possible a colonic.

One of the most important aspects in a detoxing program is opening and allowing all the channels of the body to release toxins.
so, moving your body until breaking a sweat is great
dry skin brushing activates the lymph system and sheds old skin cells
pranayama or other types of breath exercises …

the point is that if you don't release the toxins that begin to be released during the fast they simply get re-absorbed into the bloodstream and sometimes even penetrate deeper into the tissues

just some ideas…
you're welcome to contact me if you have questions. I really love sharing my experiences with fasting and detox programs :)
