Just for today- what is Reiki for you?

Meenakshi said Jun 14, 1:18 AM:

I still remember the day I first learned about Reiki. One of my friends had a brain tumor and the doctors attributed her quick recovery to the Reiki treatment that was given to her prior to the operation. [That too is a miracle - that the docs allowed it and saw its effectiveness!

Since then, I've met initiates who tell me they've got bored with the Reiki energy, or with the healing system. And those who feel it continues to transform their life.

In between, are all the shades of experience. So I was wondering - what is your experience of Reiki and the Reiki healing system as it was transmitted to you?

That is a very good question, Meenakshi.  Thank you for posting it!

I remember when I took my first class/attunement in Reiki.  I felt that something had “shifted” in myself, but had no concept of what it was…or the depth of it.  I quickly put it on the shelf and forgot about it.  LOL

By doing that…I guess you could say that I got “bored” with Reiki…simply because I didn't use it.  I didn't explore the infinite potential of Reiki because my mind wasn't open to the possibilities of what it could do.

When I decided to get my level 2 initiation, I felt a MAJOR shift within myself.  I did some really deep soul work, letting go of those energies that were not in my best interest.  The Reiki energy made me aware of quantum physics…no time and no space…and the incredible potential for healing within my past, my present AND my future.

And in level 3, when I became a Reiki Master Teacher, I learned how to expand that experience into assisting others in realizing their own potential.

Now, Reiki is a major part of my every day experience.  :)  And I wouldn't have it any other way!

Love
Dana

I have been out of touch with my Reiki and wondering how to come back to it.  I went for a massage the other day and my massage therapist did some Reiki.  I felt very energized and realized how strong her energy was.

How do I come back to Reiki?  I feel as if I need to redo my Level 1 training as I never felt that energy so strongly at my attunement.

Help!

It helps to get involved in energy work, like meditation, joining in with group healing here on gaia in the Light Group for instance.  I go to meditation and meditate alone, I join in here on Gaia, do reiki exchange, celebrate solstice, equinox etc, becoming one the seasons.  Working with different energies and modalities widens the scope of the actual reiki energy.  I see reiki as chi force and the more you share and use it personally the better the connection.  Yoga and chi kung, dancing, drumming anything that uses the whole body helps to establish the higher energies of the reiki ray.

I think it does help to get an attunement again, but it is you and the teacher who can decide on the 'level'. Master Usui reportedly gave several attunements, and not in a prescribed level 1-2-3 style; but as needed by the student. The important thing is to find a teacher who can stay engaged in your progress, and gives regular 'Reiju' or other empowerments.

Otherwise, to experience Reiki, what if you began to be aware that Reiki is in whatever you do? When you go for massage and the therapist is channeling Reiki through her hands, you can be beaming it to her with your eyes or intention. I make sure I send healing to everyone who 'works' on me. Raising everyone's vibration is to the highest good in this way.

Cathy, when you say ” I never felt that energy so strongly at my attunement.” - could  you explain?

Re: Just for today- what is Reiki for you?

Cathy said Jul 4, 4:40 AM:

Meenakshi,

At my attunement what I remember is the warmth at the center of my palms and the tingling there but not being aware of my teacher's energe per se, but I don't think that I had that same connection with her as I do with my massage therapist, who is also a friend.  And it is also possible that at my attunement I was not really ready to receive her energy as I am now.  Just some thoughts…

At this time I am meditating regularly, teaching and doing yin yoga which is most definitely energy work, and ashtanga yoga, and am more involved with energy work than ever through these medium and through friends.  Maybe I don't need to “come back” to Reiki, maybe I just need to learn how to listen to it.

A few weeks ago I attended a wedding ceremony which was performed in the middle of a labyrinth, and after the ceremony, the guest were invited to walk the labyrinth.  Each time I walk the labyrinth I get some sort of message whether I have an intention to begin with or not.  What came through loud and clear this time was that I should continue on my current path.

Thanks for asking.

What a lovely experience, Cathy, to have a wedding ceremony in a labyrinth. that HummingBird cultivates on Gaia, I can well imagine how powerful it must be.

Clarity comes; and we remember that it is not the teacher's or your energy that you need to sense, but as you said: “Maybe I don't need to “come back” to Reiki, maybe I just need to learn how to listen to it.”

It's the receiver who accepts and even “pulls” as their expanded self requires; and we just need to flow into awareness of it.

Tai, what a great way to show that the connection is the flow that Reiki brings into our life. And when someone gives us the opportunity to  'send healing' they are actually helping us to bring it into us as well!

Which reminds me - time to check my Distant Healing Network mail!

Meenakshi's question caught my eye a couple days ago and I've been thinking about it quite a lot since then.  It's kind of amazing (to me, anyway) because at this time last year I had never heard of Reiki before.

I joined Gaia in September and then one day last winter Taikunping offered to send my husband some Reiki for his frozen shoulder, which got me more than a little curious.  So I started reading about it and found a practitioner's business card at the health food store and made my first appointment in April.  I was astonished that Tania saw a fawn while she was giving me that first Reiki, and she gave me its message.  (I was just learning from Gaia that deer is my animal spirit guide, and I had also had a wonderful hour-long encounter with a doe in November.)  The next week I had a routine GYN appointment and a lump was found on my uterus.  A biopsy was scheduled for the next week.  A couple of days later I went to my next Reiki appointment and Tania saw fireflies and fairies over my uterus.  So I felt some support for whatever it was that I was going to have to go through.  Well, when I went in for the biopsy and got all prepped the doctor seemed puzzled and finally told me that he could not find a lump anywhere.  He kept looking at his notes and poking around inside, but could not locate a lump to biopsy.  I was speechless!

I took the Level 1 class in May.  When I was receiving the attunement a message ran through my head: This is what your hands are for.  It filled me with wonder because it also made me remember my father often telling me that when I was a baby I would spend hours looking at my hands as if I was utterly fascinated with them.

Later I found out that my daughter had taken Level 1 in college, mostly to keep her friend company, and she never uses it.  But I can see that it is transforming my life, sort of opening a window that has been sealed shut all my life, letting in fresh air and energy.  It hasn't helped my migraines much yet, but that bad energy has been deeply entrenched since infancy.  It is working well on recently developed health problems, like sciatica, though, and more importantly, it is cleaning out tons of emotional and spiritual baggage.  I still feel a sense of awe and find it hard to imagine ever taking Reiki energy for granted.

Barbara, I read this yesterday and couldn't reply right then. How beautiful your experience of Reiki has been! It's enhanced by your awareness of it.Sometimes I think that Reiki is after all universal, and is within and around us. It doesn't need an attunement or healingto bring it into our life. But actually, attunement and the process of initiation and healing make us more aware. Bring it down into the 3-D life as other forms of energy cannot easily do.

And that's a miracle! So it's working its way in your daughter as well, and one day she may realize it.

How are you handling all that clearing?

Hi Barbara

Just seen your posting….great that you've joined the group, it's good to share our experiences.
Reiki shares are a good idea - if you can get to know other people in your area that like the idea of energy exchanges, they don't need to have done reiki, just to be interested in compassionate caring for others - it really helps me to stay connected and in a good space and is also a fun day full of sharing and laughter.  We tend to bring crystal work into the day too, with a little meditation and lots of chatting!  We all seem to have particular skills which we share and teach to one another.

Loving light to all

So Tai, do you have the shares for Reiki healers; or also for those who'd like to get a whiff [if you get my drift!]

I also know of some online Reiki shares; isn't technology great? For those who can't attend in skin life.

The shares are for non-reiki people as well as reiki practitioners, so they get chance to see what it's like - distance healing is great and very effective, but there's nothing like getting to relax on the massage couch and have a “hand on/off treatment”!!
the crystals/pendulum work are my added extra - we use the crystals under the couch and on the body and the pendulum work over the chakra points to see if they are functioning healthily - the attention on the chakra clears and energizes the surrounding area as well as the chakra point - just love working in this way

I had this crystal under the coach when it was my turn yesterday and a smokey quartz at the foot end for balance

Meenakshi, I think the energy is universal, too.  I'm reading a book on Celtic spirituality and learned that their word for the energy of the universe was Shunnache.  It's been a lot of ups and downs cleaning out the baggage.  Tania told me I could ask the Universe to slow things down a bit because I tend to get overwhelmed by too much excitement.  I still feel a little confused about some things, but I liken it to culture shock and I'm sure I'll adjust in due time.

Last year at this time I had never heard of Gaia or Reiki!  In May of 2005 I saw the What the Bleep Do We Know?! movie with Tim and we (Mr. Logic and the Dreamer) had a meeting of the minds.  Started reading books…  Went to a Buddhist temple with my daughter…  And then Gaia…

Tai, I'll have to see if I can find a group like the one you describe.  I've been to a Reiki Circle but it only lasted two hours.  A whole day sounds wonderful!  Maybe I'll have to start one myself some day.  What is the crystal in the picture you posted?  It's very pretty.  For some reason, the last time my sister took me to Nature's Art, I found myself drawn to and buying a sphere of deep green fluorite, but haven't yet researched to see what I might do with it.  :)

Except for this: Green Fluorite aids access to intuition. Green Fluorite can ground and absorb excess energy, including environmental energies.

Maybe I need it to keep me grounded and to help me sort out the positive energies from the negative…

And now I have to ask: Does anyone watch the Dog Whisperer on the National Geographic Channel?  I'm totally mesmerized by his approach to dog behavior tapping into the energy of the Universe.  And I'm not a fan of dogs, particularly, and am terrified of the big ones.  But Cesar Millan is definitely an energy worker!

Hi Barbara

I would definately go with your instincts and buy a green fluorite sphere!  I have a clear quartz and rose quartz sphere and have held an amazing smokey obsidian one which was about 4 inches across, which was great for “visioning” in a group - we used it at the Winter Solstice Rainbow Medicine Wheel last year.

The large amethyst piece has what looks like cacoxinite inclusions - the golden bits, like lots of fine golden rutile - the reverse side has blue markings and green, malachite/azurite - it has wonderful energy!

I haven't seen the programme you mentioned, but have noticed it advertised, maybe I will watch it too!

I did buy the fluorite sphere.  :)  Do you think it would be appropriate to keep it in my lap while I give myself Reiki?

If you get to see the Dog Whisperer I'd love to know what you think of it…

I think the idea for the sphere when giving yourself a reiki is great, just go with it, I keep a journal for crystal messages - may be an idea to try sometime.

My friend is a horse/animal whisperer!  Would you like to join the Love of Animals group and join in with the healing thread there?

Or should we start a special healing animals thread here too….

Sorry to take so long getting back here, Taikunping - things are just too crazy around here.  Tim finally got an acceptable picture of the fluorite sphere - I'm not sure what my problem is when photographing crystals!

I haven't seen the Love of Animals Group so I'll have to look for it.  Can't seem to keep up with the groups I'm in already, though!

That's very cool that your friend is a horse/animal whisperer!  Do you get to see him or her work with horses?  The dog whisperer had a horse whisperer on the show once to help him with a dog and a horse that were having a difficult relationship.  They said they both learned something from each other.  I find this connecting with the energy of domestic animals fascinating.

My friend lives up north so I haven't seen her working, she has a pony and loves riding and teaching.  If you tune into the animal and telepathically ask simple questions your high sense perception fills in the answers!

I'm so pleased that you saw the dog whisperer!  It amazes me how flexible and effective he is dealing with so many different kinds of people and all kinds of dogs.

I'll have to take the fluorite out to the see the sun today.  I've been using it with the Reiki early in the morning, before dawn.

Yesterday I was up at my dad's and offered Bernie (the blind cat) some Reiki.  He seemed pretty reluctant and distracted at first because the windows were open and he could hear interesting things going on outside.  Beverly moved him to the window sill and informed me that he wanted his Reiki there.  So that actually worked.  His body is so small though.  I wound up scratching his chin with one hand and giving Reiki with the other hand.  He seemed quite pleased and relaxed.

That's great, my cats always loved the reiki and so do the cats next door!  I even used to give the indoor fish reiki through the tank.  Sometimes it's good with animals just to think the reiki to them if they don't seem settled, you will be able to see them visibly relax if you are in the same room…

Think the sun can clear and energize the crystals, they like to rest too…

I'll look out for another episode!

I've found that hands-on Reiki may not always be accepted –just as you've shown, Barbara, and Tai. They know what they need!

I'm thinking that Reiki is something to 'be in' and that helps us to be a healing presence; till targeted treatment is required.

I am of this belief too, we can just be reiki and radiate it inside of us and in our immediate surroundings - it's like being in a loving and compassionate state, full of acceptance and acknowledgement for ourselves, humanity, nature and the universe.  Just knowing that our prayers/reiki/light always reach where they are needed and when they are needed is a wonderful thought to hold and to share with others…

Tai, I can just about picture a group of your neighborhood cats lining up at your door for a little Reiki tune-up!

Meenakshi, I like the idea of being a healing presence until a targeted treatment is required.  Goodness knows my family could use a lot of general healing up there.

When I gave my sister Reiki the first time it was a powerful experience.  Beverly tends to be skeptical of what she calls “hocus pocus,” but was curious to see what it is that I've been going on about lately.  (I asked her permission to share this story…)  She has a lot of health problems stemming from a birth defect, her pelvis is twisted out of position a little and causes a lot of strain on her muscles.  She wore a brace for a year when she was a toddler.  And she's been seeing a physical therapist for years now.  When I started to give her the Reiki she told me later that she saw a bright white egg which blinded her with pain for a few seconds, and then a snake hatched out of it and then the pain disappeared.  We looked up snakes and found they often represent healing.  (A snake also slipped into the house recently when we were taking Dad outside in his wheelchair at Midsummer.)  She also told me that my hands felt just like my mother's hands which comforted her, but also made her miss her.

So…….  Beverly decided I should have a Reiki table so I would be more comfortable while giving her sessions.  She and Tim got me one and it's really nice.  We took it up to my dad's and I gave him some Reiki, too.  He fell right asleep and did say he liked it.  Poor Dad, he was probably exhausted from bewilderment.  Earlier in the day I had collected DNA samples, cells scraped from his cheek, because he is the last male in his genetic line and I'm curious to see what his Y-chromosome DNA reveals about his deep ancestry.  He'd understand for a little while and then forget and wanted to know all over again what the heck I was doing!
