My name is Siona...

… and I love SCC. :)

Hi all! I’ve been a fan / member of SCC for about a year, but was never terribly active on the other discussion forums. Still, I’ve loved the ‘real world’ conversations I’ve had after watching SCC films, and I’m looking forward to extending these discussions in the online realm.

I live in Boulder, Colorado, and work for Gaiam (SCCs parent company) as the Director of this space–our Gaia Community. (makes sweeping gesture with her arms.)So I hope you’ll make yourself at home, and I’ll look forward to learning more about each of you in the months to come.

Hi I’m Kathy ~KES on Gaia. I run Dreams of Artists~ on Gaia.  I am here to help artists.
Filmmaking has been my most prideful and gratifying of all tasks in my career, and it is the one area I have found where one can still make a lot of money while you sleep. I will always get back to you with an answer or someone who can answer when I don’t know.  Happy to be here. Hugs

Hi, I'm Jessica, but you can call me Jess. I am the Community Ambassador with Spiritual Cinema Circle. We have such a beautiful community with SCC, and I am really excited for all that Gaia Community has to offer our members! As you know by now, you can create your own personal profile and join groups interesting to you, as well as post blogs, upload your pictures into the photo gallery, and create e-greeting cards to loved ones, family, and friends. Stephen Simon will be sure to pop his head around these parts as well!
So, if you have any questions or comments about this community space, please send them over my way! I look forward to meeting all of you!!

Hello .. I'm Barbara and I live up in Oregon. I just joined SCC a couple of months ago (just received my 3rd DVD but haven't watched it yet .. I try to pace myself<G>)

I've only recently returned my attention to my spiritual growth and you know how one thing leads to another. Well, I was trying to find a good “substitute” for the world “god” (not the best term for my new understanding) and that lead me to ,,,

some internet messages about the metaphysical interpretation of Star Wars and the term “The Force” and that lead me to ….

a book called The Force is With You, which discussed spiritual messages in films, and that lead me to ….

the Spiritual Cinema Circle!

Oddly enough, it was only AFTER I joined SCC that I realized the author of the book was the same Stephen Simon who started SCC. Talk about a nifty bit of synchronicity, huh?

One of the things my life partner and I enjoy most is watching GOOD movies. We normally restrict ourselves to Turner Classics, PBS, or DVDs because we just can't stand commercial television. Since we're trying to eliminate as much negativity and violence as we can from our lives, we are also very discerning about the films we watch, so SCC was a perfect match.

Anyway, I sure hope to “meet” more of you here on the forums and that we can have interesting discussions on SCC and related topics.

Hello Barbara!

That little story of synchronicity you mentioned made my whole heart glow. I love those little messages from the universe, and I love the way this one happened to lead you here. I'm so glad you've joined, and I look forward to the same. :)

(And did you ever find a good God-word substitute?)

Siona …

You asked if I've yet to find a good substitute for the word God. Well, I'm still searching for the one that resonates best with me, but I'm reading Emma Curtis Hopkins and some of the other early new thought teachers and using “Good” instead of “God” is helpful. Sometimes, I use “Spirit” or “the Universe,” and in my Obi Wan Kenobi moments, “the Force” words as well!<G>

Barbara: Good. I love that; it speaks to that basic sense of benign wonder and abundance at the heart of the world.

I fill in the word with silence, sometimes. Just silence. It helps me pay attention. :)

Barbara, I was just reading a few messages in this new forum and ran across yours. And I must know you! You used that <g> that only us old-timey Compuserve members used to do (and I still use that too, don't worry!). Then I clicked on your profile and see you're a spinner and weaver… so am I. So I'm sure we've crossed paths in cyberspace before. Small world, no matter how you define “world” isn't it???
I've been a member of SCC for quite a few years now. I love the movies, but rarely get a chance to watch them anymore. However, in 3 months I'm finally retiring from my day job after 30 years - guess what's on my list of fun things to do?
Nice running across you, and I think this will be a nice message board.

DebbieR: I'm beaming just reading that sweet piece of synchronicity. What a wonderful note / realization to start on. And oh, congratulations on the retirement! If you have time and don't feel shy I'd love to hear about your dreams / hopes for the next 30… I'm sure they'll be wonderful.

Siona,
I'm not a bit shy, but also never have time! This is the one thing I'm really looking forward to… not having to rush from one thing to another in my life. I've already set many dreams into motion, some without quite intending to. <g> Over the past decade my husband and I found beautiful and affordable land in the most remote mountains of VA, so we bought it and have been building a little cabin. On our own, hauling a trailer full of wood and supplies across the state every other weekend. It's truly heaven! Concurrently with this, my being a yoga student turned into me attending a year long teacher training program… now I teach, and attend classes, plus help to teach the future teachers in the program. Add to this my lifelong love of weaving and spinning, which I rarely find time to do these days. Blend in assorted kitties and other pets, an old farmhouse that always needs work, neglected gardening projects, books waiting to be read and movies waiting to be watched, and family members starting to need more attention from me… see why I'm counting the days until I can get away from my full time job???
I'm mainly looking forward to the chance to slow down a little so I can reclaim enough silence to get back in contact with myself. I need more time to dedicate to the things in my life that are really important, the things that I find infinitely fulfilling. I know there's a much better use for my energies so I think this big transition is going to be wonderful. But first I have to survive the next few months! <g>
Thanks for asking…

Peace,
Debbie

DebbieR: Oh, that sounds just wonderful. And yes, I can completely understand the countdown; you've got so much to look forward to! What's your final day? We'll have a little party on here to celebrate. :)

And congratulations, too, on the yoga practice and work you're doing. I think it's so important that there are people like you who bring the peace of yoga to others. It's such a real and meaningful and grounded way to change the world–at least in my view.

<g> again.

Siona, thanks for the message. My official retirement date is Nov. 1 but I'm calling it Halloween. The stress of training my replacements has been a bit much (I'm an analytical chemist), but I'm starting to get really excited. And I'm always game for a cyberparty!
Teaching yoga, and teaching other teachers, is something that feels hugely meaningful to me. And I look forward to having the time to do more of it. I never set out to do this, actually I resisted pretty fiercely, but now I feel so honored to be on this path.
However, I think I'll take the month of November to grab my pile of unwatched SCC movies and catch up on some R&R. <g>

Debbie R … Oh my goodness!! Yes, I am a Compuserve alumni (and remember Delphi and Prodigy???).  Now that I am studying Truth teachings, I supposed I shouldn't be surprised that out of the several million (billion???) people on the Internet, I should run into someone I've known in the past. Neat, huh?

I think this will be a great message board as well and I'm looking forward to catching up on my movie watching as well.  I'm kind of “semi-retired” and my partner and I love watching films in the evening so SCC is a real “god send”!

Barbara, it's indeed nice to run across an old cyberfriend here. Those were the days, when my family thought I was weird to have “friends” in my computer. <g> And now look at us! I plan to be fully retired as of this Halloween (don't you love my choice of date, after 30 years at my job?). And as winter moves in I plan to catch up on some movie-watching myself. This is a much nicer forum, and I enjoyed spotting a fellow weaver the first time I looked around. Nice to hear back from you! BTW, my icon picture is something I made recently, double-weave pickup, tedius as heck but great fun to play with…
Enjoy!

Hi Siona,

My wife and I just moved to Oregon about a year and a half ago. We gave up network television 12 years ago because of the commercials but also the constant interruption of the “film at 11” soundbites filled with horrible negativity. We get our news from the Internet. And our television entertainment from DVDs. What freedom to be able to choose what enters our minds!

Dean: Where'd you move from? And where in Orgeon are you now? I've been through Portland and Ashland and Eugene at various times, and thought each of them beautiful.

I don't have a television either–I never have and don't ever plan on succumbing. I like getting my 'news' from my immediate environment, from the land and animals and air and people speaking around me. :)

Yeah! Another Oregonian!  I'm from the Salem area (Keizer, really, but no one knows where that is, so I say Salem).  I just moved up here about 6 years ago. Maybe this is the new thought “vortex” !!!

I sure can relate to your decision to give up tv watching. Between the commercials and the negativity, we made the same decision (and cancelled the newspaper subscription as well!). DVDs are the ONLY way to go (although I have to confess we watch quite a few old sitcoms in addition to SCC – we all have our guilty pleasures don't we?)

Hi Dean and welcome! Yes, what a liberty to be able to choose where we seek our information! On the otherside, do you ever find the choice to be overwhelming? I just got back from Tokyo and Okinawa, Japan where everyone is at such peace and calmly respects their neighbor. In a city of 13 million, it is shocking to see the subway filled with people, yet surprisingly quiet. (My American family and I were the only ones to be heard!) One local's opinion on the matter was that because they are like-minded, an island that never took to immigration, they more easily understand each other and do not stray from the norm. Efficiently but patiently they move through the crowded subway in single filed lines. There is no trash. There is no shouting. I found it very interesting… please discuss your opinions here

Re. the secret stash of abundance, I realized a while back that most of the possessions I have that I really love - the SCC DVDs, the music, the books, the cones of weaving yarn - are things that no thief would ever break into my house to steal. And *those* are the things that make me feel truly wealthy - hence secret stash. :-)
