Global Zaangha Day 2007: Got Ideas?

~C4Chaos said Aug 23, 2007, 9:47 AM:

Hello Friends!

How are you doing? I hope you're all enjoying the summer in the Emerald City.

I'm sending this message to let you know that Saturday, September 15th will be the Second Annual Global Zaangha Day.

I'm open to suggestions on the kind of activity and venue.

But first let's get a head count :)

How many of you are interested to meet up on September 15?

What time of the day do you prefer?
I think the best time is around late afternoon in case you have plans for the evening.

Any suggestions for venues? Do you prefer a quiet place where we could mingle or do you want to have a more lively setting? Depending on the number of attendees, I can volunteer the common living room area in my condo. But you all have to drive to the East side :)

Do you have any suggestions for activities?

Food? How about a potluck?

And oh, if there's anyone out there who want to help with the organizing, I could use the help :)

Let me know so we can get the ball rolling.

I used to belong to a group of folks interested in starting an intentional community.  They had this thing about lurking.  I never knew that I was a lurker for not posting on a regular basis.  I work a lot of hours and have little time to spend on the internet.  So forgive me if I have never been to one of your venues please.  I am afraid that  I won't make this one either as I have a rather nasty visit with the dentist planned.  But rest assured, I am learning and mean you no harm as I read on about the Seattle Pod.  By the way, I am in Gig Harbor and it's a fair ways from Freemont or Bellevue.  Wondering if you think of us folks on the fringe as being part of your pod.  I love it here at Zaadz and would like to meet up with some of the visionaries in our neck of the woods.  Anyone thinking of starting up a pod a little more southerly?  It would be easier to plan time to spend with you!
Thanks
Lynda

Lynda,

“Wondering if you think of us folks on the fringe as being part of your pod.”

haha. of course. the Emerald City is a BIG place :) if you feel like it you can start a more specific pod catering to your area. you're welcome to use this pod anytime. also, if you don't have time, that's ok. you can do the Zaangha thing whenever. feel free to organize a gathering for people who are closer to your area.

thanks!

Hi Folks,

So sorry for not being as active as I had hoped!  Seattle is a great place to connect w/ folks who are environmentally and sustainable minded and I've found so many avenues to help achieve some of my new fangled ideas.

One of them is through www.freecycle.org.  It's a networking group that believes that stuff should be used and out of the landfills.  It is a great group.

I am also rock climbing and do a lot more kung fu.  I also picked up a bit of parkour and have been mentioned in last Sunday's (Aug. 26) Seattle Times. http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin/texis.cgi/web/vortex/display?slug=parkour260&date=20070826

We did a film for the 48 Hour Film Project in July!

And now I'm planning on going to grad school!

Lots of stuff!

As for a meet up on Sat. Sept. 15th, the best time for me is probably in the evening since I have a big tournament for kung fu that day.  I will not be competing, but I will be there to watch!

I hope everyone is doing well and please feel free to email me and let me know how you guys are doing!

Cheers,
Lorran

Lorran,

thanks for the update. man, you have a lot going on!

most people who responded prefer the late afternoon meetup. so i already reserved the venue. no worries. enjoy the kung fu tournament. we can hang out some other time. or maybe next time you could hook us up so we can watch the tournament too :)

take care and keep in touch.

Hi Lyndaflora and others away from the madding crowds:

I have recently learned some wonderful ways to use the Search Zaadsters function, and you could use it to find people close to where you live. Click on Zaadzsters tab (word) at the top of any Zpage, then in the Search field of Location type in your town or any nearby town. [I suggest not putting in WA as some people say Washington and you will miss those. You might find others in other states with same town name, but of course you can just pass those by.] You can also tell it to simultaneously search by Nickname instead of Last Login, so you get a stable display which will look the same each time you call it up!

Then you can click on anyone's icon, and end up at their profile page, and after reading about them, click on Send A Message, if you want.

And here's a hi-tech trick if you want to contact all the folks in the display in rapid sequence. This works in IE7, I don't know about other browsers. RIGHT click on the person's icon, then select and LEFT click on “open link in new tab.” Then left-click as usual on the tab as it's brewing, you don't have to wait til it's “done.” You will end up at the profile page. When you are done reading about or emailing the person, click on the tab that has Zaadz and a + in it, hard to describe exactly what, and it will take you back to the display where you can start all over again! Eventually you will have to clear the tabs for the individuals, if you are contacting a lot of folks.

See, ~C, I have learned from you and refined even further!

If you don't have the time and energy to start a more local pod, maybe someone else in the area will. But at least you could all become official zFriends and that will facilitate local synergizing.

Here's to local synergy! OM Bastet

Informal note to all: ~C said he would be  back from Boulder today Tuesday and will undoubtedly post details of the Saturday meeting as soon as he can. To the best of MY knowledge it is 1 to 4 pm, and in Kirkland, so you can plan your time and travel anyway. Parking should not be difficult. Remember to bring networking materials and be prepared to share about a couple of your favorite green and/or positive resources in the area. I am going to mention my dentist and my hair stylist, both extraordinary folks doing extraordinary work.

Blessings, OM Bastet

Hi 1vector3,
Not sure how the request to bring networking resourced to the mix but I love the idea.
What if (or maybe we already do here somewhere) listed people that we do business with and know that add an earth/people friendly approach to their work and lives.  I also like bartering for services and would like to do business with others that do too.  There are many ways to utilize such a resource and perhaps we can all connect on a little higher level if we interact this way too.
That being said, I am not meaning to promote an “us n them” kind of world.  I simply would like to meet more of you and interact more with folks who are full of ideas about building a better world.  For one, I become inspired when in the presence of others who like to think outside the box.  There are fewer “no ways” and lots more “let's consider this” type of discussions that lead to great things.
We could form a list of things that we can offer, things that we are looking for, things we have to give others instead of throw them away etc.
I manage a motel in Gig Harbor.  There are times that I need a service provider of one kind or another that I would be willing to barter with for lodging.  I hope this is an appealing idea to many of you.  What do you all think?
Thanks for being there,
Lynda

Meeting up and exchanging information on who we should shop and buy services from is a GREAT IDEA!

My housemate is a wholesale person on fairly traded goods.  Check out her site: www.playfairtrading.com

(It's still work in progress!)

Can somebody POST all the great businesses that you guys talk about?  (I can't come to the gathering, otherwise I'd do it myself!).

I will probably try to host a gathering in the next few months, but I'm trying to get into grad school in the next few months that will support my eco-friendly and sustainable entrepreneurship and housing ideas!  (wish me luck!)

I love this group and I think this is great!

LNGarrison,

I will endeavor to get the info to post all the local resources people mention at the meeting. And do wish you the luck you want, though IMHO Life Purpose has more relevance to the outcome than luck! :)

Lyndaflora,

The place on Zaadz to find the kind of businesses/resources/services/folks you mentioned is zPages ( link to it at the top of every site page.) It's up to all of us local folks to post every relevant resource we know of. I don't know how we can work willingness to barter in, but it could be stated in your own entry of your own motel, and people could respond to that.

You also said: We could form a list of things that we can offer, things that we are looking for, things we have to give others instead of throw them away etc.

Fabulous ideas, IMHO. That is beyond the scope of zPages, but I think (not sure) within the mission and purpose of ”MFA on Zaadz” pod. Check it out. Problem there is it's not locally focused. Maybe ~C could start a Board on this pod for those types of exchanges, and we could see if enough folks are interested to make it viable. There are certainly local groups like FreeCycle (Google that) which are relevant to the kinds of things you mention. A recent post somewhere listed all the pods on Zaadz that have to do with Green approach to life. You could put “green” in the Pod Search field and find some of those plus perhaps that post.

Sorry I don't have the data at hand to turn all of that into links right now.

Hope others will jump in with input and ideas.  Blessings, OM Bastet

Hi All!

I am soooo sorry that I missed meeting more Zaadsters!

Sat. was pretty busy!  I did 4 hours of kung fu.  The master of my kung fu lineage had flown in from Hong Kong, so I had to take his seminar and meet him!

Then I went to the Bridge Motel Art Show really late and went home to nurse my bruises from kung fu.

I hope to meet up with more Zaadsters in the future!  As always, I will try to organize a get-together or attend a meet up!  And I always love getting updates so please feel free to email me and let me know how you're day/ife has been going!

My report: Seven of us showed up and we had a greeeaaat time!! After talking 5 hours nonstop we drew a line, but we were not talked out by any means!!!! Some of us want to get together again in a few weeks or months. Will post any open gatherings here.

We talked about many fascinating subjects, got to know one another much better, shared deeply, and really bonded, I felt. Excellent synergy. It was so comforting, almost healing, to be interacting with such inspiring, benevolent, supportive folks moving in the same direction as ourselves, with aligned visions of the future world.

LNGarrison, the one topic we DIDN'T get to was the sharing of local resources. However, I did discuss my two because I had made a committment to them, so I will describe here, and then eventually get them into zPages.

Dr. Paul Rubin is a mercury-free dentist, a pioneer in this area. He is a very spiritual fellow, very sweet. I have known him for a couple of decades. He's in the Northgate area of Seattle. He does all kinds of dental working being a DDS. Tell his receptionist Marilyn that you came through his Zaadz patient!!!!

Laura Sullivan is the most remarkable “hairdresser” one could imagine. She learned a sacred hair-cutting process, and then has refined it. She teaches worldwide. She practices in Birch Bay, Seattle, and Los Angeles. No website. Her Seattle phone is 206-660-5958. She is available in Seattle only one or two days a week, and not every week. She works with the “hair devas” and at the end you feel not only cut and styled, but healed as well. A fabulous lady. I manifested her via my intention to find “the perfect hairdresser.” She is reasonably priced, and somehow magically her haircuts look great for much much longer than you could imagine!! Tell her you found her through her friend on Zaadz.

That's my report. Thanks to ~C for hosting and coordinating, and our group photo! To me it was all even worth the $20 parking ticket I (and half of us) got because we were so involved we forgot the 2-hour limit on our spaces. A cheap date, as they say.

We were mindful of others meeting, around the globe, and I felt the intangible synergy and upliftment. Here's to the 3rd annual Global Zaangha day with lots more folks! Some kind of electronic hookup, with time-delays, will surely be available by then. Technology marches on.

Blessings to all, OM Bastet

I am so happy to hear that everyone had a great time getting to know each other!  This is why I love this community!

Thank you OM Bastet for putting up your dentist and hairstylist information.  Two things I definitely need to do!

It reminds me of  this wonderful hair stylist in California that I use to go to for a long time, his name is Anthony Morocco and he has been doing lunar calendar hair cutting for several decades now.  He is like an acupunturist but for your hair!  He's trying to retire and pass his knowledge on to his nephew that he acquired learning from shamans all over the world.  He's become a hairstylist to the stars, so he might be an exclusive hairstylist now…..

Anyways, if anyone's visiting Laguna, CA and  willing to take the chance….and want more information on him, you can email me and I'll pass on his information!

Also, I know a good stock broker/ 401k/ IRA investor, a yoga instructor , several massage therapists, a counselor, a chiropractioner,  two arborists, a wedding photographer,  a videoographer, wholesale/retail sellers and a martial arts teacher information I can pass on.  These folks all believe to heal the world, one must live with intention!  (I like having friends and frequenting business that also believe in this and living in the Pacific NW is the best place to make these types of friends!!!)

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

cheers!
L
