What does this dance become when you replace the “you”s with “I” and the “me”s with “you”? Love and Light |

What does this dance become when you replace only the ”you”s with ”I” and look at the commonality of the issue? |

I would venture to say either of the aforementioned replacements would lead to greater self awareness and you can only become as intimate with another as you are aware of yourself. |

The dance as Clifton describes it has so many behaviors in it that it seems it can only be interpreted through the being of the “experiencer” (Okay, so I take license with the language). If we believe that our behavior is functional–that is “no one does nothing for nothin”–then we have to look at the function of our behavior, the function of the behavior of the other, and the function of the behavior of the relationship. Suddenly, we have six left feet…not to mention the left feet from our past we bring with us. Lack of awareness leads to narcissism which leads to shallowness which leads to lack of connection which leads to the absence of love which equals apathy. I've danced that dance of intimacy with two (or more) left feet many times. Thanks for the spark of consciousness, Clifton. |

Harville Hendrix and his Imago concept (found in his book “Getting The Love You Want”) goes a long way to explaining the conflicts experienced in a “love” relationship. |

Stuart, I don't think it makes any difference if the you's are replaced with I's - the poem was trying to make a point - I don't see it as a whining poem - but something that shows to us all the ways we try to block love in our lives - we can all see ourselves in at least one of these lines - I see the poem as a call for greater acceptance. |
