This zaadz pod has been launched to build community and facilitate
discussion and resource sharing among all of us interested or active in the Shambhala Path of Social Engagement, a spiritually and contemplative based approach to engaging the world inspired by the ancient Shambhala teachings transmitted for this age by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, author of Shambhala: The Sacred Path...(more) of the Warrior, Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism, The Myth of Freedom and many other titles.
While certainly deeply connected to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the ancient Shambhala teachings offer the kind of universal and nonsectarian spirituality our world now deeply needs and a path for engaging the world and creating enlightened societies that transcends religious and sectarian differences.
The Shambhala path consists of developing our full potential as awake, gentle, open hearted, brave and fearless human beings through engaging in various contemplative practices and disciplines, principal among them the sitting practice of meditation.
Shambhala Path of Social Engagement (SPSE) programs have been offered in London, Paris, Halifax, Baltimore, Berkeley, Boulder, and at Karme Choling retreat center in Barnet, Vermont, Dechen Choling retreat center near Limoges, France, and Shambhala Mountain Center (http://www.shambhalamountain.org/) in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado. These programs include training in basic sitting meditation, contemplations on loving kindness and compassion, deep listening, non-violent or compassionate communication, the way of council (listening/wisdom circles) and other skillful means for engaging the world with wisdom and compassion.
The international Shambhala Community (http://www.shambhala.org/ ) is currently lead by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche (http://www.mipham.com/), author of Turning the Mind into an Ally and Ruling Your World.
