A home in Venice?

Franck [no longer around] said Mar 15, 2007, 6:48 AM:

Hi everyone,

Not sure this is the best place to discuss this, but since i thought about it, it might very well be :)
I will be attending the summer intensive next July in Venice, CA, and boy is this a long way from home in South East Asia.

I am looking for reasonnably-priced accomodation near the studio, but reasonnable seems to have escaped the local vocabulary.

Would anyone have a good tip or a great idea to share with me to keep the cost of this amazing experience within the boundaries of (sanity and) my wallet?

Thanks for your suggestions, any suggestion.

Shanti.

I understand where you are at ~ Just the cost of the intensive itself dips heavily into one of my paychecks but I am unable even to consider coming to any of Shiva's Intensives because of the price of accomodations in that area, it would seem that as well funded as that studio is, they could provide some lost cost accomodations for their students!  Anyway, you can tell I'm frustrated about it too! :)  Good luck and many blessings!

Hi guys,

Giving it another try, as the Universe may have an answer now it did not have before. I will attend Shiva's grand intensive in Venice this summer, and am still looking for an affordable place to stay near the yoga studio.

Anyone has either a room to let, or a great idea to share?

Thanks a million guys, i am burning a whole in my shallow pocket with the plane ticket from Singapore already, and hope to save a few pennies on the accomodation.

Rock on!

Well, I’m from LA and study at Sacred Movement all the time—this place:

is about a 5 minute walk from the studio, on the sand at Venice beach. I have NO idea how much it is, though, but it’s worth checking out. Seems like a cool place. :)

Also, check out losangeles.cragislist.org and see if anyone's subletting anything.  If I were you, I'd stay near the studio…public transportation in LA is awful.

Thanks a lot. I checked craigslist, but I am worried to commit to a place without being able to meet up first or checking the room out. That's the curse of living so bl00dy far away :(

I am hopeful though :)

Hi Franck,

Check Shiva’s website because I found some hostel information from there. I’ve never stayed in a hostel before, but they are cheap! I considered going to Shiva’s summer intensive, but it is easier for me to stay on the East Coast of the US and find things around there, Kripalu, etc. One thing I worry about about my own path through Shiva’s program, is that, as a teacher, I cannot take off an entire week mid school year to go to Kripalu for trainings. As a result I have missed Embodying the Flow, and if I am still teaching this upcoming year, I will miss Marma Nadi Chakra. Yet, I am able to take other workshops like Rasa Vinyasa and Teacher’s Exploratorium. My question is for those who know, is it pretty essential that I take Embodying the Flow before Teacher’s Exploratorium? It seems so. In that case, instead of waiting for 2008 schedule, I would have to take it with Twee Merrigan in Venice. So, then Franck, I would be there just for that 4 day workshop, and would have to find accomodations as well. So keep me in the loop. Any suggestions from anyone?????

I took embodying the flow at Kripalu and did so after taking fluid power and I wish I'd done the reverse  - embodying the flow is a great basis for moving forward in Shiva's training but I hear you, it can be challenging to coordinate times.  The Universe will offer you the right path.

I really think embodying the flow is neccessary if you don't have a previous yoga certification. It breaks the poses out piece by piece and shows you the modifications and adjustments. Also, she puts alot of beginner vinyasa info in the manual.

I took it 1st and waiting 2 years before the fluid power and it worked out just fine. I just signed up for the 500 hour TT (i have a 200 already).

I hope this helps.

Blessings,
Monica

Embodying the flow and summer immersion

Courtney said Jun 25, 2007, 8:26 AM:

Hello all,
Time is going by so quickly and the summer immersion is coming up very soon.  What should I expect in a day in a life of embodying the flow and the summer immersion?  I am starting to get a little anxious of what is to come.  I am a yoga instructor but I was instructed in a very gentle yoga practice and have only been experiencing a more dynamic yoga with Shiva's dvd's over the past month.  Some postures I just have to laugh in order not to get discouraged.  What should I expect?

Namaste,
Courtney
