As probably all of us do in this pod, I admire and respect Shiva greatly. I am curious to hear what some of your thoughts are (“you” being the pod members) about becoming a famous yoga instructor, and how it can help or harm the opportunities for people to learn about yoga. I would love to be able to take Shiva's teacher training, and think she is trying to create opportunities for people that are flexible and accessible. How, though, can the light of her knowledge be transmitted to those for whom cost, travel expenses, work schedules, etc. make it virtually impossible? I think Kripalu offers scholarships, or work study opportunities, but do any of you know of other creative options? Just curious. |

Your right, Kripalu offers scholarships so that's a great route to check out especially since being there is a wonderful experience all in it's own. I hear that Yoga Journal conferences offer work study programs as well. I wanted to train with Shiva for three years and I too had to wait to make it financially possible because of travel expenses but once I really set my mind to it I found lots of ways to save money and got a second job to make my goals happen. Now I'm in the 500 hour program and going to the Venice intensive in July. My advice is don't even entertain the idea that it's not possible - transfer all your energy into creating the experience. I have been to 2 intensives with Shiva so far but the energy I receive from her teaching fuels my practice for the rest of the year. Time with Shiva is priceless. |

I have noticed that Shiva does not come to the “Red States” too much, which is really a shame because they are the places that need her the most. But then again, she can only do so much, that is understandable. |
