Namaste, Here is the proper practice and theory of the chakra bija mantras. this practice is known as butha shuddhi or chakra dhyana.

http://www.shreemaa.org/drupal/node/675

let me know which mantras you want to hear ?

Jai Ma!

I think you may be pondering some issues that I was pondering earlier this year.

If the sounds resonant at certain frequencies, there must be correct ways to make those sounds, right?

I'm sure there will be lots of different answers to this, but the more I learned about Sanskrit, the more I felt there cannot be a correct pronunciation. Pronunciations have changed over time and place. Where is the line betwen an accent and in incorrect pronunciation? How can we possible know how the sounds were made long, long ago?

For myself, I ended up focussing on the intention much more the the 'correctness' of the sound.

Your answer may be different and I wish you well! Just wanted to share a few of my quick thoughts on this.

Hi, I have a specific question to ask of all Yoga practitioners. Does any Yoga practitioner here in the West really practice Yoga and Praanaayama with specific Mantras, Beeja Mantras in the proper Intonations? If they do, I would love to hear them say each Mantra and record them, if possible.
Regards,
Namaste, Big Love.

      Hi Everyone,

I'm fairly new to the Gaia community. I wanted to write and ask for some advice. I am planning to start an on camus Yoga group this coming Fall '08. I spoke with my office of Student activites at my school and they told me that as a brand new group we would get no budget for the first semester that we exist. What I need then are ideas for activites that are Yoga related and would come at little or no cost for the first semester. Just to help with location referances, I am located in New York City.
I really want this group to be successful and keep people interested and active in this group, so this is an odd feeling I have of both anticipation and somewhat of worry. Anyway any suggestions or advece would be really helpful.

thanks.

It meets the 200 hour standard for the USA's Yoga Alliance. I was just wondering if any yoga practitioners in other countries can tell me if I could use this qualification to teach in countries other than the USA? Thank you :)

      Namaste,
I began taking teacher trainings with Shiva 4 years ago and at the age of 50 (2003) - - Shiva was just the jolt (or bolt of lightening) that my body / mind / spirit was craving. I agree with everything that everyone has said about her. Words don't do justice to the gratitiude that I feel in my heart for what she has taught me in those 4 years and the gifts she has given to me. I've taken at this point about 200 hours of teacher trainings with her and I'm not doing it for the credit. I am currently not in a position to go for the 500 hours - - I'm enjoying moonlighting whenever I can. I live on the East Coast (Boston) and I try to catch her whenever she is anywhere near Boston if at all possible.

My yoga practice and my life have evolved unbelievably over the course of these last 4 years.
I averaged seeing Shiva 2 - 3 times per year and it has carried me through unbelievably.
At this point I am beginning to internalize the teachings and it has really transformed my life in unbelievable ways. My sadhana looks nothing like what it did 4 years ago.

My life looks nothing like what it did 4 years ago.

2 years ago (approx) I opened a studio in Cambridge, MA.
You can check my web site if you like:

http://www.cambridgeyoga.net

I also recently started a blog and I am posting lots of cool videos - some that I shot at Shiva trainings - -

I am including links to some of my videos for your enjoyment and I welcome any feedback on the blog or on the videos:

http://yogidee.typepad.com/journal/2007/08/y-yoga-document.html

http://yogidee.typepad.com/journal/2007/08/shakti-blast-sh.html

http://yogidee.typepad.com/journal/2007/07/y-yoga-document.html

http://yogidee.typepad.com/journal/2007/08/imagine-by-jo-1.html

Thanks to all who have shared little parts of how Shiva has touched their lives on this discussion board. I hope to be checking in more often to see what's happening.

One more thing -- about altars -- I have a fairly big one at my studio -- candles, incense etc - - and students really seem to respond to it. Personally I have a small altar on my floor right against the wall where I practice in my bedroom. I am in the habit of spontaneously placing inspirational items there and it seems to change maybe every 3 - 5 weeks depending on what's going on for me. Right now I have 2 photos of Shiva propped against the wall and one photo of myself in a posture that I like.

Maintaining that connection to source is what I have learned from Shiva, and it is really the only thing that carries me through all the huge challenges of running a yoga studio full time.

Namaste,
Dee Greenberg

I really think embodying the flow is neccessary if you don't have a previous yoga certification. It breaks the poses out piece by piece and shows you the modifications and adjustments. Also, she puts alot of beginner vinyasa info in the manual.

I took it 1st and waiting 2 years before the fluid power and it worked out just fine. I just signed up for the 500 hour TT (i have a 200 already).

I hope this helps.

Blessings,
Monica

I have noticed that Shiva does not come to the "Red States" too much, which is really a shame because they are the places that need her the most. But then again, she can only do so much, that is understandable.

We here in these "places of exile" benefit most from the workout DVD's which are wonderful and beautifully done. Amazon.com is the best place to get them because they really aren't even sold in stores around here. I have been able to see her about once a year and you are right, Meghan it does carry you through the rest of the year. Thank you for the positive thoughts!

Bright Blessings,
Cathey

Your right, Kripalu offers scholarships so that's a great route to check out especially since being there is a wonderful experience all in it's own. I hear that Yoga Journal conferences offer work study programs as well. I wanted to train with Shiva for three years and I too had to wait to make it financially possible because of travel expenses but once I really set my mind to it I found lots of ways to save money and got a second job to make my goals happen. Now I'm in the 500 hour program and going to the Venice intensive in July. My advice is don't even entertain the idea that it's not possible - transfer all your energy into creating the experience. I have been to 2 intensives with Shiva so far but the energy I receive from her teaching fuels my practice for the rest of the year. Time with Shiva is priceless.
Blessings on your journey.

I took embodying the flow at Kripalu and did so after taking fluid power and I wish I'd done the reverse - embodying the flow is a great basis for moving forward in Shiva's training but I hear you, it can be challenging to coordinate times. The Universe will offer you the right path.

As probably all of us do in this pod, I admire and respect Shiva greatly. I am curious to hear what some of your thoughts are ("you" being the pod members) about becoming a famous yoga instructor, and how it can help or harm the opportunities for people to learn about yoga. I would love to be able to take Shiva's teacher training, and think she is trying to create opportunities for people that are flexible and accessible. How, though, can the light of her knowledge be transmitted to those for whom cost, travel expenses, work schedules, etc. make it virtually impossible? I think Kripalu offers scholarships, or work study opportunities, but do any of you know of other creative options? Just curious.

Peace, Janet
