Drawing on the Right side of the Brain by Betty Edwards
Most of the time when I pick up my books for a semester I skim through them and never give them a second thought. But this tasty morsel I haven't been able to put down for a moment. With the exception of writing this thread.
I'm taking drawing 1 this semester. I never expected to be given a book. How can a book teach me to draw. Drawing isn't something that can be taught by books right?
Well maybe.. but my inhibitions are slowly melting away with ever page I turn.
As visual artists, there is a certain skill that is held over our heads by most of society. The drawing skill. How you are percieved as an artist greatly depends on your amatuer,intermediate or masterful skills as linear drawing.
If you are a good drawer, and okay drawer or a great drawer this book is a MUST!!!! Definently.
Even if you are not looking to learn to draw but heighten your own cognitive perception (which are like words du jour for gaia)
this book gives some lovely insights on duality and the workings of the cerebral hemispheres and how reality is recieved equally but differently by both of them. Our handedness, that is, right handed or left handed and the pre dominant characteristics given with our natural selections.
Although one sided (given the name) this book helps that 90 percent of us who are dominated by the right hand-left side interesting and creative ways to open up the power of our left hand-right side.
I've haven't been able to put this book down!! But wanting to share it with the beautiful people of Gaia-Dreams of Artists was enough to make me mark my page and close it. I hope hope hope You will have a look at this book. It really is a great one.
Also.. did you know that a fly with red eyes is a girl and a fly with white eyes is a boy.. interesting… :P
