Purpose for this section...

Jeff said Sep 20, 4:08 AM:

Hi Everyone,

I just visited this section of Dreams of Artists and was looking around trying to find the “theme” or purpose behind the photography sections?  Which I really did not see.

So I am wondering if we could brain storm some ideas that would be more effective in creating and sustaining a section for our Photography, about photography…

Our journey to photography? Trained or untrained?
What are our needs and wants for this section?
What Camera are you using? Do you have preference in camera's?
Are you using Film or Digital? What are your thoughts of difference's?
Is photography Really “art”? Is Digital Photography less artistic then film?
What do you like to take photographs of more often?
Has your style changed through the years?
Who are you role models? (Photographers)

Just a few Ideas that flew out of my finger tips while sitting here!
Thank you all for your time and indulgence…

I am Love, Jeff

Great minds think alike. I was just discussing this with Kathy yesterday and your input is wonderful. I have some ideas too about how to enhance our experience here on Gaia for us as artists. So with that said what I believe would be fair and not too overwhelming for Kathy is we can write up our ideas and present them to her, as Kathy is the one who will have to prepare a section for a gallery and a focal point for this idea.  Thank you Jeff I look forward to us all collaborating together.
We may all have different ideas I'll post mine once I get done with the preparations I am now making for an upcoming show. Your input is appreciated.

Liza:)

Hi, I am late to this discussion… one of my favorites.  I call them light paintings and photography is the main artform of communication on the web.  Its such a picture world.  We can weave in a purpose here.  After work today I have more to say but thanks so much for starting this… Let's all continue and really spotlight the subject next.  A picture captues a thousand words & can be used to show a fact or to show expression to elicit an emotional response from the public. This is the photographer I learned to shoot portraits from.  I like her work. We both wear many hats in show business & photography is a great way to express when you are busy with a lot of other things.

To light!
Kathy

Why do I feel ignored when It comes to the area of communication? This is discussion that something is being brought forth yet I have not seen anything else…
Kathy wrote this on the 21 of Sept. After work today I have more to say but thanks so much for starting this… Let's all continue and really spotlight the subject next.

There has been no follow up on this…

Hi Jeff,
I have had the same experience whereby I have posted things for support and have not gotten any. It made me feel sad, ignored and left out. I did not say or doing anything wrong but sometimes it felt that way. Still I participate and hope it generates more of an interest in myself and what I also wish to accomplish. Sometimes we get caught up in ourselves and forget that sometimes we have to reach out and do some work too. Which I have done and continue to do.

My photography is what I would call a natural occurrence and a moment of grasping opportunity. It requires patience, dedication, love and interest in the subject. I work with a digital camera and my preference is macro photography.
As I like to see the beauty in small things that otherwise get overlooked:)
I do not think digital is any less artistic then film and it saves on chemicals.
I believe photography is just as important as art. Photography shows the beauty of a moment in time, whereby art shows the beauty from within a person. Photography is a memory of that present moment and also (because I am connected to Gaia/nature) allows for me to show the beauty and miracle of living beings Created by the Creator. These moments given to us, or perhaps shown to us are the miracles in everyday life of which we are an important part of.

I have no role model other then my own style and the present moment of opportunity. I do appreciate other peoples works without wanting to be like them. My style definitely has changed over the years as I have matured. I have over 17 years of taking photographs invested and am just now coming out with part of me. I really love bees, butterflies and flowers and also gravitate to a nice landscape shot.

Anything that has to do with the beauty of nature on this planet.

I thank you for bringing up this discussion and for the platform provided by this wonderful idea.

Sincerely,
Liza

Any camera is life's light.  You can make light do anything you want. Photography means “light writing”.

The first lesson I learned – that an artist who has not mastered his equipment cannot freely create.

With today's digital world we are freed from intricacies of shutter speeds and apertures, and so forced to concentrate solely upon that camera as a stable datum tool in hand.  Beginning photographers are routinely recognizing, preconceiving and composing photographs that genuinely talk–and all in a matter of weeks. Advanced photographers then are drilling all equipment for an effortless mastery. This appears routine although we know it's not. For given a manufacturer’s specification of film speeds are frequently unreliable, even the fully professional photographer will find himself hard pressed in achieving perfect exposure. With different manufacturers it is good to test for camera, meters and lenses.

ISO stands for 'International Organization for Standardization' and their film speed ratings are used to indicate the relative amount of light necessary to give a proper exposure.

In the digital photography world the phenomenon is called 'noise' not 'grain', the cause of the problem is slightly different. When light levels are low, the sensor has trouble reading the scene properly and pixels of random color are thrown into the picture. However to us photographers the end result is the same or very similar.

The 'better' digital cameras have, usually hidden away among the manual settings, a sort of simulation of the film speed effect. My camera for instance, a Canon EOS 300D, has an ISO range from 100 to 1600. This feature is not available when you are in fully auto mode but is available in all the other modes. I tend to keep it set to ISO 200 most of the time as the grain structure is not significantly worse than ISO 100 and it gives me that extra f-stop to play with.

Composition is all about the arrangement of objects & people in the scene to forward your message. There is no visual medium to which this does not apply.
All successful works have a message. It may be implicit or implied, emotional, conceptual or literal, inferred or stated.  Here's an explanation of shutter speed.

Have fun shooting!

Your heart holds such passion.  I so enjoyed going through your photo gallery, and love how each picture had it's own interesting label.  You certainly are talented, and have such beautiful eyes.
Thank you for sharing, Jeff.

Thank you so much! giving them “label”s allows me to look deeper into the photograph, viewing not only what is there but also what has been “painted with Light”
Please visit often, New calendars have been posted …

Your English if getting good. Please keep in touch on Gaia and we can help you to speak good English too. I made a note of: ”id on messener is lorelai175” Ashley is chatting with you now.

Here is a hyperlink to the google translator.  You can write in Romanian and it will translate to English for us.
