Saadi - They put a crow in the cage

They put a crow in the cage with a parrot, and both were annoyed.  “Where did you find such a hideous creature!”  screamed the parrot.  And the crow was thinking, “What sin did I commit to deserve this conceited, babbling fool?”  I tell this little story to show that the snobbery scholars feel towards uneducated people is exactly reciprocated.  One time a strict ascetic fell in with a company of wandering poets. “Welcome, dear holy man,” began a charming minstrel from Balk.  “I can tell that you disapprove of us, but please don't frown.  You already look offensive enough.”
