Generalized List Mechanism

Nicole Tedesco [no longer around] said Jan 22, 2007, 7:30 AM:

The “Goals” feature is wonderful.  I think this mechanism can, and should be generalized in this system as well as expanded.

  • Picture, if you will, members, Pods and even the owners of this site, creating lists of any kind.  Perhaps a member would want their own “Ideas” list that would work in the same way that their “Goals” list does?
  • Picture Pods with their own custom, sharable lists.
  • Picture a list linked to a Wiki entry.  While the linked Wiki entry can provide common, accepted entries for that particular type of list (e.g., “Reduce World Hunger Solutions”), the member or Pod can use the list to extend that Wiki entry for their own purposes.  Think of lists as potential “scratch pads” for their linked Wiki entries.
  • If, perhaps, a list is linked to a Wiki entry (e.g., “Personal Happiness Goals”) then perhaps the ability to edit the original Wiki entry could be limited to only those who have linked their lists to that entry.  That way, only those with an explicit interest in the list would be editors.  (This would be part of the general process of improving access controls to Wiki entries over time–see the related post on Wiki entries.)
