Pod/Blog Suggestion

heemes said Jul 6, 2008, 8:13 AM:

Hi there, Think Tankers!

I have an idea from a technical perspective about how the pod (and blog for that matter) community experience could be simplified so that greater subscription rates are attainable without the user experience negatively impacted.

What I have seen on some wildly popular blogs posts is there is a point of perceived diminishing returns.  Ladybear just hosted a picnic on her blog, the view number was huge, and there were over 100 comments.  Lots of repeated scrolling, to be sure!

What if everything I had already seen there each time I went back to the picnic could be viewed with one mouse click, but it wasn't shown by default?  In other words, only the new items showed up each time I went back, but if I needed to see something a new post referred to, I could see it.  Having three options to view a conversation on a pod, titled Threaded, Unthreaded, and Newest First, seems to be limiting.  I suggest a fourth option, Already Read, which would show the older posts to the conversation, be available.  As an example, Gmail accomplishes this using specific programming; I see no reason why Gaia couldn't adjust its template as well.  A cookie system would seem to lend itself to this.

Great idea, especially since blog parties are becoming more and more common. Also good for other blog situations.

It could be something like on the pod showings on our profile pages.
I enter new entries by the “new” logo that appears to the right of the pod title
off my profile page.

I learned a trick from someone some time ago, it might have been Gem or Om,
instead of scrolling all the way up or down, just hit your HOME and END keyboard
buttons to go up and down. or PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN buttons.
that works well on my Mac.

Oh the terrible problems we face in life!
to much post scrolling…. hehehe  ;-P

I LOVE THIS PLACE! We have so much FUN!

hugs to you both. XOX

Yes, that <Ctrl>+<End> trick works as well on the PC side, but I prefer to read things in order -and- sometimes there would be 10-15 comments already posted on your picnic blog!  What if thousands of people came to the party?

I agree it is a good “problem” to be confronted with, :-)
