Profile redesign (please read!!! and reply!!!!)

flex22 said Aug 2, 2006, 4:03 AM:

Hi.Some of my posts in the thinktank have received no replies. It'd be nice to get a reply to this one, because basically it is awesome (like the others) and if you don't listen to it and implement it then ken wilbers head will explode (or something).Aha, I think I have their attention!

Well, anyway, the idea is to change how the profile page is shown.Well the idea is to have the friends list down the bottom, and the “Things user loves” to the left or right (where the friends list currently is).

Why? Well to be honest I'm more often interested in what peoples interests and loves are than who their friends are.And should I wish to see who their friends are, then I could just scroll down. But what I'm actually interested in, is situated on the bottom half of the page, meaning that I always have to scroll down.Seeing as though the whole width of the page isn't currently used anyway, I see no problem in fitting the things people love area next to the right or left of rest of the profile. And also it's really annoying not just to be able to see my own loves and interests without having to  scroll down the page every time (17” monitor btw!!!!).Like I say I'm more interested in all of that at first sight than seeing who's online or what pods I'm in.

Cheers!

That's interesting Flex.

Maybe we can implement an option in “My Account” to have some control over how you want your page to be displayed. This sounds like one of the possible options.

Thanks for the idea bro! I'm sure the developers will let this marinate for a lil' bit.

Thanks guys,

I just thought of something actually. So the profiles more like the Home Page.I Iike the idea of each individual profile following the format of the home page. That's flow! if you ask me :)

But unlike the home page, I'd split it halfway down.So where the 'let's change the world' part is, that's where  the 'about me' section would be.Then on the left where you have all the tags titled 'Our most loved interests,' that's where the 'Things user loves' section should be.

I honestly think this would look really good, and I'm glad to hear Brian say that they're working on something like this now! That's great!!! As it is now if I'm browsing peoples profiles, they're most loves things are out of sight until one scrolls down the page.I don't dig that at all.I want to see them right there as soon as I visit the page. That way people are more likely to connect. And that's what we want to do, right!

Obi, yes an option would be cool. But personally if it's just going to be one or another, I prefer the way I've described I'd like it to be set out.

Ahh Matthew, so it was you! Quick, throw him to the lions, LOL! Here are some posts that have not been acknowledged:

Blog comments dialogue box needs to be bigger

Time outs  (better now)

Can't delete goals (seems to have been sorted since I posted about it)

I really appreciate it when things get taken on board and things are tweaked to make zaadz better. So thankyou! for those things that have been sorted. And I appreciated the things that will be sorted.

Anyway I won't go on, but I'm not working here full time, so when I take the time out from my hectic schedule to offer suggestions or things I think need sorting, in order to make zaadz the best it can be (for all!) it'd be cool if they were at least acknowledged. I mean I don't have to post.I can wait until someone else posts about it.But then someone else may not, and then zaadz won't become the best it can be so quick.Call me soft but I feel that it's my responsibility as a zaadzster (and Ambassador!) to let you know about these things. Therefore I'm really glad that you appreciate and acknowledge my really helpful suggestions. You're more than welcome :D

Cheers!

flex,

these are way cool suggestions. we have plans of re-organizing our pages in the near future and we'll take your suggestions into consideration. we're going to be working on cool features as well to ease up not just the display and navigation. i don't want to spoil the surprise though. so just keep those suggestions flowing. as you can see, we're all eyes, and ears here :)

Yeah, I really am not bothered about seeing my friends list all the time.It seems pointless really, why they have to be so prominent.Sure on a superficial social networking site, sure, but zaadz? I'm not saying I don't like seeing them, but are they really that important that they take precedence over the “things we love” section.” Take a guess where I stand on this!!! :D

Also while I'm on the subject, I currently have a 'friend' who's icon pic is of beirut being blown to pieces.I'm seriously not digging seeing that sh!t on my zaadz profile KNOW WHATTA!! MEAN!!!!!!!!!! Two lots of bigots blowin each other to peices, you think I give a shit! lol
Now this friend is called “Salaam”.I never accepted a friend invite from anyone called “Salaam”.Personally I don't think we should be able to change our names that easily. We should have to submit a change and give a reason or something. We can change our titles any time we like, so just use that if you've got a message or whatever.
As it is I have no idea who this person is.Therefore I think I'm just going to have to remove them from my friends list.

thats not a flow if u ask me….  thats cloning

Home Page to me is boring like in BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING!!!!!!!!

i want pictures everywhere on the home page and zTabs

but guess what….  i m 1 of 12378 (& growing) Zaadzsters and so r u

i m here to shatter your illusion that your suggestions in order to make zaadz the best it can be (for all!)…..   it's not for all as it's not for me!

i personally as one equal to u happen not only to disagree with all your ideas on this tread, but i DO NOT want you nor Brian's team to have more control over my Profile and to change it to suite your idea of what is cool and what is not on my personal page

my personal page is my own business and i want to be the one who has more control of my own business where i continue to employ my own imagination

so i 100% VOTE for Obi's comment:

Maybe we can implement an option in “My Account” to have some control over how you want your page to be displayed.

I personally like the friends portion of the home page.  It's great to see who's on-line when you are.   I tend to make new friends  using other zaadzsters lists.   Though I tend to look at their personal profile list first.

It's all important.   I tend not to look at some of the other features like the personal goals section.  Maybe I will access it in the future????

I wouldn't like zaadz get tooooo flexible with individual profile (re)designing.  On myspace you can do whatever you'd like, and it looks very messy and cluttered.  Zaadz's layout is so nice and clean..  I think if we had options about the general layout of our profiles that would be lovely, but not complete freedom on how to design our pages.

Not only that, but I feel that since everyone has the same general layout, it leads us to read what they have to say rather then just look at the pretty html handy-work.

:)
.Candiace

(Ps - I also think it's very nice to see how is online at the same time as I.  This site is so wonderful because of the people - the top of the page seems like a nice spot!)

messy websites make me go away :)

I appreciate the Zaadz “white” space it leaves room for the other attributes of the site, allowing one to find meat or milk, depending on what they need at the moment.

creativity is one thing, but changing the layout of zaadz may make it difficult for someone with bad eyesight such as mine to read profiles that are allowed to implement wacky backgrounds and text that gets buried in the background.

dings and whistles are to much on sites at times.

i like it simple, it gives room for true creativity on individual profiles. rather than showing what one can do with html, zaadzters show the deeper parts of thier beings. it is something that most attracted me to this site.

be well

Oh and while I'm at it, WTF!!!!!!!!!!! is going on with having the goals right at the very bottom of the page! FFS!!!! I mean, seriously, this is zaadz right?!? Under the same management?

WTF use is having goals right at the bottom of the page where we're not likely going to see them as soon as we visit our hompage, a constant reminder to us of what we're aiming for in this life.

Some guy (hmm now what was his name?).Anyway, some guy once said to me:

My only advice: Get MORE intense about, not more relaxed (unless you have a couple of lifetimes and/or comfort with figuring it out when your life is almost over…no need to stress
about it, but do get intense…). As some old wise dood once said, “One must approach enlightenment as one with his hair on fire approaches water.”

Every great teacher will advise you to build habits and to consistently train yourself to do your best (don’t believe us, listen to Buddha…

Just a little simple idea, on the profile page, in the section, “tell us a little bit about yourself”, as I was just updating mine, I realized, there is no spell-check, like this box has.  (I'm a Virgo and spell check EVERYTHING.)

Can we add that feature?
