I love the idea of a site devoted to helping make the world a better place to live. I tend to think concretely however, so I have some goals for this site I would love to see come about, and I think a “Wiki” mechanism (like what Wikipedia uses) may be helpful. Specific goals include:
- Allow ideas to converge, and not just flounder and spin about in circles
- Enable the elucidation of specific goals (already exists, but could be expanded upon)
- Enable goals to be shared
- Enable specific ideas and ideals to be elucidated, shared and validated
- Enable the elucidation and sharing of specific problems
- Enable the elucidated, sharing, evaluation and valuation of specific solutions
- Perhaps even solution progress could be shared
- Enable the eludication, sharing and validation of trade-offs between goals, qualities and solutions
Yes, I am a fairly concrete thinker, and a geek. I can't help myself. Anyway, there are several things we can do with Wikis:
- Include Wiki capabilities for the individual (“My Wiki”), for Pods (“XYZ Wiki”) and perhaps even site-wide. All Wikis should be inter-linkable.
- Incrementally provide access controls to Wiki databases and, perhaps, to indiviual entries. That is, a member could decide whether or not other members could edit their Wiki entries, perhaps even granting write access to specific members and not others.
- A database of shared goals could be maintained in the Wikis (Pod or site-wide, or perhaps even individual). When a member creates a new goal, or even edits an old one, the Wikis could be searched for specific titles, perhaps under a specific “Goals” section in each database. The member's goal could then be linked to the specific Wiki entry. The title of the member's goal could be automatically replaced by the title of the Wiki entry in order to avoid duplication and confusion.
- Any other ideas can be placed into any of the Wikis and shared
