FAQs aren't enough

Michel said Oct 16, 2007, 9:57 AM:

You guys have a ton of stuff in here!  Can you provide a help search list that simply lists all the offerings?  If I put my pointer/hand over a link, they don't offer clues. For instance, where can I find information about permalinks?  What is a “feed?” If I do a search, this information gets buried in random posts.

Most of your spots are self explanatory but there are some that aren't.  Can you provide a small or separate window that offers an explanation or add a list of definitions to a search in “need help?”

Thanks

I think this is a pretty good idea, Michel.  I'll add it to our wishlist.

THANK YOU Michel. I have long felt and tried to articulate that the SEARCH system for info available is in great need of improvement.

You can look through the list of “random posts” generated by your Search topic for the topic mentioned in the title of a post.

In the How Tos and FAQs pod I (and others) have posted extensive information on Permalinks and also on RSS Feeds; searches for those terms in that pod SHOULD bring up those posts with those terms in the title. If not, please let me know and I will post links here. (In Thinktank's Dictionary Board I posted results of my own learning about Clouds and Threads and other topics.)

——————————-

Hey ~Matthew I just tried this and a Search this Pod in the How To pod for Permalinks turns up 11 posts, ONE of which is my second post in my HOW TO and WHAT ARE PERMALINKS…. series, but the FIRST post DOES NOT APPEAR. This is SERIOUS, man!!!!! What's up? Why?  Argh!!!!
—————————————–

Part of the problem is not just that info on a particular subject is scattered among various posts, but also among various pods. But Thinktank, Zaadz Support, and How Tos and FAQs are at least the main three; it could be worse…….

And I believe Zaadz is evolving toward a better and easier search capability or accessibility display for basic info about how to use the site and its features.  Thanks for your ideas. More, more!!!! Who else has ideas????  More, more!!!!!!!

Blessings, OM Bastet

~Matthew, I checked more thoroughly. I have a bunch of posts in that thread I started titled HOW TO and WHAT ARE PERMALINKS, HYPERLINKS…  A Search This Pod for the term Permalinks turns up ONLY ONE of those many posts, and not even the originating one, at that. This isn't the way it's spozed to work, is it?

I know, I know, this post belongs in Support pod, but hey, the thread started here, and it would be hard to track if I jump pods at this point. don't change horses in the middle of a stream……

Blessings, OM Bastet

Michel, I found a bunch of posts about RSS Feeds in Thinktank, Search this Pod for the term RSS Feeds. Also in the How Tos pod for same search. However, my own extensive post on that subject did NOT emerge from the search. The link is

 http://pods.zaadz.com/how_tos_and_faqs/discussions/view/187943

~Matthew, I am MOST distressed that a search this pod for the term RSS Feeds does not turn up my post with that term in its very title. How can I alter the title so the post gets displayed from that search term? Or what would it take?

A Search This Pod (How Tos) for OM Bastet, which generally turns up ALL my posts to a pod because it is content in all of them, does not turn up the above on RSS Feeds (187943) plus it only turns up that ONE of the posts in the Permalinks thread. So the problem is in how the system is not recognizing those posts either from the term OR from the other content (my name being consistent content.)

Many thanks for all these details you deal with constantly!!! Blessings, OM Bastet

Looks to me like a search for RSS Feeds in the How To pod comes up with your post first ;)

We just significantly upgraded our search server last night. Still a few small snags, but it's running more smoothly now that it was before. We're reindexing content that was missed before for one reason or another, however, and that included your post. It's now right where you'd like it!

It won't show up in Thinktank's results, though, because it's part of the How To pod.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, Jake. I will take your word that “things are different now.” Generally, they are, in any given “now.” :)     Appreciate all the careful work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    Today I found a bug in zBooks, will post it in Support pod.

Hi Jake, clicked on your link to the Search results page and there is my RSS Feeds post, properly indexed and displayed. Hooray and Thanks!!!!!!!

Can't say the same yet for Permalinks. Search This Pod in How to pod for “Permalinks” still turns up only one of my posts in that thread in which i have many posts, including the first that started the thread. So maybe that content remains to be indexed? [all this new jargon i'm learning, it's great…..]

Yeah, that's probably it, OM.  Last I heard from the devs, there was still some re-indexing and SOLR work left to do.  But we're almost there!
