College Campus Club

Captain BrilleCoeur said Sep 13, 2006, 8:05 AM:

Hey everyone
I need some Socratian pensiveness.  I'm trying to create a club where the values on zaadz are put into effect where students can come together and discuss this spread without hassle.  If you've heard of Humanity's Team you'll know that it is similar to zaadz just based on one writer and his works.  I want this community/club to use all forms of the new thought/spirituality or what helps understand it.  I don't want it be HT on Campus or Zaadz on Campus, but something more accepting and related.  If anyone can come up with something that will be great!

Hi Rebecca:

I am working with my school in NYC to start a zaadz type club/group.  I have a meeting with the student life office to get approval for the club.  I will keep you posted on the progress.

Cheers,

Judie

Another thought I had was that we could contact school newspaper and have the run a zaadz.com ad!

I just posted in the thread Obi cited.  All this college talk has got me thinking what I would do if I were still a student at some campus…

I feel you wanting it to be something that's not directly tied to zaadz– like a zaangha– but definitely feeds off of and adds to the zaadz community.  This is reasonable.

I guess it would come down to what you wanted your group to actually do.  Maybe your group is just to a gathering of like-minded people who decide on a project to carry out in the community– a trash pick-up; renovating a nearby playground; planting trees; food and clothing drive for the homeless; meditation workshop; poetry slam; open mic; etc.  (A note about money: An Indian guru named Sri Sri Ravi Shankar replied when asked where he was going to get the money for everything he was planning, “From whereever it is now.”  :)  Maybe your group is something less outgoing, and more like a sharing of ideas and experiences, with regular readings and/or movies of substance.  Whatever you decide, this is where you start.  After that, the role of Zaadz will be clear.

for me I just had noticed when I got to my new school that there was no spiritual group experience.  One of the first things I checked out was if there was a group of like minded folks I could hook up with at school and the closest thing was the philosophy group.

And I thought that I can't be the only one looking for this type of experience, so that is why I thought that a zaadz type group would be a nice option. Also, as an ambassador, I just wanted to spread the word about zaadz to the college community. I know a lot of students are using myspace or facebook and I just wanted to make them aware of zaadz as an option.

I agree that tabling is hard. I like the idea of going directly to the green or religious groups/clubs to see if they have an interest in zaadz.

And another idea I had is get a mentor/professor from your school's religious or philosophy department involved. They would be very helpful in the adminstration dealings and also they'd be a good sounding board. That would be a good starting point.

And how about taking on individual projects within the classroom setting that gives one the opportunity to give a presentation about the fusing of social networking, technology, & personal interests: this could be a talk-discussion on THE ROLE OF SOCIAL NETWORKING IN CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT,

or THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY IN IMPLEMENTING CHANGE IN THE WORLD
or, or ,or or…………

Contributing to the enrichment of local and global
connections through FUSING:
(1) learning how to act and write in such a way, that the community as a whole becomes kinder and wiser,
(2) through creative use of leading technology, and
(3) with personal enthusiasm to pursue individual and collective interests, thus, Changing the World through PERSONAL GROWTH AND SOCIAL NETWORKING.

Hi!
I'm currently a student at Northeasern Illinois University (part-time) and I've seen numerous student oraganizations succeed and fail.
What I've concluded, is that an organization can succeed if there is but a core of committed people working together for some meaningful purpose.
I like the inclusiveness aspect of zaadz.   Why not welcome anyone willing to work to make the world a better place, or just hang out and learn from those who do, until the individual torch is lit.   If others choose to pursue one teacher or one narrow agenda, it's ok.   If they are working to a positive end, they are with us.   It can be good to narrow one's focus to one teacher or activity.
The key is to meet and find some focal point for your meeting.   Somehow, being a clearinghouse for local manifestations of positive spirituality and world community service can be useful.   A lot depends on who is in your core an what they bring to the common.   They can pursue whatever they have an inner passion for.
You could be a local zaadz pod, gathering info on local good stuff, like yoga, readers, workshops, new thought organizations, etc. for students.
I hope this is helpful and anyone may freely e-mail me!

Hi, I teach communication and sociology at a community college.  I actually give my students extra credit for creating a profile on zaadz.  It is one of several options they have for exploring ideas for class credit, so only the ones who would really like to do so end up doing so.  My pod is a place where my students can touch base.  Other than that, they are ultra encouraged to explore zaadz and learn all they can.

Your thoughts?

Gawd, those cookies look delicious!!!!!  Giving me a sweet tooth…

You're classes might catch on in other communities too. Especially mine… up here  in Microsoft territory. Lots of retired (early) MS peeps who might be bored of sailing around on their luxury boats. ;-)

Off to report an Eeekkk error message now.

PJ that really makes a difference in people's lives…..

I really need to find those people who are just as like minded as myself

But I don't know who will be my sponsor

I like everyone's ideas and opportunities

Re: College Campus Club

Peggy J [no longer around] said Oct 10, 2006, 5:21 PM:

Hi Rebecca,

Sponsors?

See Dorm Administrators, Student Life Associations, Campus Ministry, Independent Studies in any of the disciplines.  I have experienced openness and support in all of these areas.

Whatever you love you can count on someone else loving it too! So put together a Beginners Program: drawing, dancing, singing, meditation, social networking, writing love letters…………. whatever your heart is drawn to.

Then submit a proposal about your class or workshop at any of the associations mentioned above, or a  senior center, a church. One can get university level credit for doing this under almost any discipline.

In this way you will draw like-minded individuals to you and build your circle (Zaangha) of friends.

Good
