This center corresponds to cardiac plexus, which produces the antibodies till the age of twelve. The Heart chakra controls breathing by regulating the functioning of heart and the lungs.

When Kundalini pierces this center, the person becomes extremely confident, secure, morally responsible and emotionally balanced personality. Such person is very benevolent and loves humanity without any self interest involved and is dear to all.

Through deep and relaxed breathing, the air element can help relief tensions at the heart level.

She is accessible to anyone, regardless of social status, and will come to the emotional rescue of anyone who calls upon her in a time of crisis. There are many ways to invoke Kwan Yin into one's life. The traditional way is by chanting the mantra OM MANI PADME HUM.
Source

      Hello,

I'm Kendra "KSL." I'm new to Zaadz and Tonglen Tidbits. A Buddist friend of mine told me about Tonglen a couple years ago and I found it very interesting. Never really studied anything more about it since. I want to learn more.

Question...
Is Tonglen affective to use on yourself for chronic pain or is it something you use more to understand the pain of others?

KSL

"Drive all blames into one" is one of my favorites too. A friend confessed that the first time. He heard read it he thought it meant pick someone to blame, so he picked his mom and blamed everything on her so it kind of make me smile whenever I hear it.

Another slogan I like is "When the world is filled with evil, transform all mishaps into the path of bodhi."

Thanks Pat and Wendy, I checked out the Pema Chodren site and found you could link to a host of other teachers explaining that phrase as well. It is about ego clinging being the cause of sufferring, which is one way I've seen the 2cd noble truth explained.

I do agree with this essential wisdom. I believe that where one goes with it can be problematic. It is not easy to be without ego, and we need to have compassion for ourselves as we cause ourselves suffering. Laying harsh blame on ourselves for creating our own pain just creates more pain.

One of my favorite sayings is a part of a prayer, "bless and empower us that confusion itself dawns as primordial awareness".

Hi all,

Sogyal Rinpoche is how I learned Tonglen. I followed his instructions closely, I had one of the most intense experiences in a gentle way. i absolutely knew that the bodhisattvas were real. This was before I studied much Tibetan Buddhism, and had not heard the term bodhisatva, I called them "lords of compassion" in my mind. I knew right then as i was doing this practise that this is their practise, and doing it makes you at-one with them. And moreso I knew that it was timelessly and eternally so, that they had always been there in my life, and in everyone's life. The magic of Tonglen is that it makes your ego fall away and your heart grow. It is one intense practise.

Here's a link tto the part of his book The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying that describes the preparation for and the practise of Tonglen.

http://www.abuddhistlibrary.com/Buddhism/A%20-%20Tibetan%20Buddhism/Subjects/Tonglen/Tonglen%20Practice-%20Sogyal%20Rinpoche/Tonglen%20Practice,%20as%20defined%20by%20Sogyal%20Rinpoche%20in%20The%20Tibe.htm

love,

Tamara

My understanding of that slogan is that at the root of every source of my suffering, problem, hassle, inconvenience, (even ephemeral / conditional happiness)* is one thing: ego clinging. The problem is my demand that things be different than they are, not the situation itself (and this is the case for every situation). If I release my ego clinging demand that things be some other way, then the situation "just is" - it is no longer suffering (or setting the occasion for suffering)*.

So the slogan is drive all blame into this one.

- Pat

* Happiness that is conditioned on some temporary state of affairs that I insist I must have, or have more of, or can't live without, etc. merely sets the occasion for suffering - because all things change.

      Practically speaking,
Taking blame-giving away from others mellows them out and removes the conflicting attack.
Causing yourself to be an intimate part of all troubles to relive suffering from all is empowering and beautiful. IMHO

Pema Chodron explains this much more eloquently than I can. Here's the site. My interpretation of it is to look beneath the anger and blame and see what is really at the heart of the situation.

Hey Kate - that's abook that was recommended to me by a friend earlier this week. I went to the library to pick it up. Am glad to hear that it's helping you really grasp this slogan.
