This is a great lojong slogan for me. I sometimes I feel like I have an ocean of compassion for my grieving clients and yet don't ackowledge my own grief, my own need to take deep breaths, my own need to find the moments of listening to the gong or going within and taking an inventory of my own compassion meter.

Thanks for putting this teaching forth!

Metta, Jennifer

Those links are such helpful reminders for me. I find encouragement like that is so useful to my everyday life. I forget to keep focused on my practice sometimes and reading others who are is inspiring. Kate

Rabten and Dhargyey also have a very simple commentary which helps strike at the mental roots of aversion: as opposed to taking on the entire suffering of the world right away, we should start the meditation by accepting all the difficulties that may happen to us today, tomorrow, next month, and on into the next life....

I really like it a lot. Pema Chodron has a great commentary on this too.

Lojong Slogan number 10 is something like: "Begin taking and sending with yourself" I summarize that to mean (Until I can do this for myself, I will be unable to do it for another.) Here is a link to the beginning of commentaries by some leading authorities:
Here is the commentary by Osho
Here is the commentary by Chogyam Trungpa
You can get to the other commentaries by clicking on the links in either of these pages.

What do you think about this?

- Pat
