I’m sure this device would have its uses and appropriate situations. However, you have to ask yourself: what are you looking to build into your body? For some situations, a device like this could develop a dependancy on a device like this… and, does this device simply allow us to operate the new behaviour like yet another ‘distraction’ in a pile of distractions? “Oh, good, I don’t need to worry about that, the timer will take of it.” Is that the kind of thinking / holding we want to have around an important practice or habit? An alternative that encourages an increase in awareness from the ‘power of why’ behind a new practice or habit is the accountability buddy method. I found using an accountability buddy really shifted my thinking and awareness around the practice, and not in the ways that I thought it would. It produced great results but in via a non-linear path, and changes occurred for me unconsciously. I found not only an awareness of my behaviours in question and a ‘closing of the gap’, but also some changes that didn’t seem directly related… yet, they had to be related, since I had been ‘trying’ to do this particular practice for years and just hadn’t gotten reliable with it. Dn’t get me wrong - it wasn’t a ‘painless’ process, but it got results. Anyway, for considering a range of options, definately consider an accountabilty buddy: it might just work! |

I think the idea of an accountability buddy is a fantastic idea. Everyone should be held accountable for the specific things they say they are going to do. |
