the little things

A very young 14 year old friend of mine finds enlightenment in “the little things” she sees in the view finder of her camera.   I see her toally amazed at and in love with a pair of shoes or fog on a window or a puddle.

Enlightenment is not tomorrow or in a book or a big mystery.  Enlightment is here, now, in everything and everyone.  When enlightment and seeking are gone and there is only being then enlightement is here.  My young friend Erin never read a book about enligthenment, or attended kirtan or sesshin or sat zazen.  Here “method” is the camera and she has met the divine in “the little things.”  Every ordinary moment for her is an amazing little thing.  I have learned from this 14 year old and find it wonderful.
