2008-2009 TSK Online Program

Balder said Sep 13, 2008, 11:22 AM:

Here is the latest update on Jack Petranker's upcoming online TSK courses:

TSK Online Program 2008-2009
The more I teach TSK, the more I find myself wanting to simplify. This year's online program reflects that approach. We will do a limited amount of reading and focus on a few core themes:

Unit One: Inquiry, Space October 6-December 5, 2008
Unit Two: Thoughts, Stories, Self January 12-March 13, 2009
Unit Three: Conducting Time and Knowledge March 30-May 29, 2009

The approach we take toward practice will also be simple. There will be limited formal sitting practice, except optionally. My suggestion is to practice in the following ways:

1. Do the reading; and return to it several times during the week. Readings will almost all come from Love of Knowledge and Dynamics of Time and Space and be less than 10 pages a week.

2. Practice several times a week in sessions of 5-10 minutes (longer if you like).

3. Keep a journal and/or post entries on your experiences on the website. Respond to posts by others as you are moved to do so: questions, comments, etc.

4. Practice informally while you are going about your daily activities, as much as you find yourself wanting to do so. (If you have a daily meditation practice, that might be an especially good time to do TSK practice, combining it with your meditation.)

5. Participate in a weekly Skype telephone conversation that I will lead for half an hour or so to discuss the week's reading. Tentatively I am planning to hold the phone call Sundays at 9 AM Pacific Time, which is 12 noon on the east coast of the United States and 1800 in most of Europe. That leaves out Australia, but if interest warrants, we can do another call occasionally for the Australians. Even if you miss this call, my plan is to record it and post the recording each week on the website, so you can listen later.

I will do a test call on September 28 th at 9:00AM Pacific Time to try the system out and also to answer questions you may have about the program. To be safe, be ready to use Skype for that call. But in theory you can participate just using a regular phone. Either way, if you want to take part let Kathleen know your phone number or Skype id.

6. Join us next summer for a 5-day retreat at Ratna Ling in California (optional).

Here are the readings for the first unit. I will post suggestions for practice as we go along.

Unit One, October 6-December 5, 2008

Kathleen is indeed very responsive, and always so cheerful, too!

I'm thinking of posting my weekly notes on my Gaia blog.  Not sure how it works as far as what or how much students post on the CCI site, but that will come in time.

There are three of us Gaians in the class?

Balder said Oct 5, 2008, 9:48 PM:

That's a good idea.  Maybe if you blog your TSK class notes, I might do so too!  (And Davidu?)  Then we could link to each other's entries if people want to follow along…

As far as I know, yes, there are three of us Gaians in the group.

The last time I did a class (a year or more ago), the discussions on the CCI site were moderately active.  I like Gaia software more, so I think it would be rewarding to at least keep a “parallel journal” over here, where we might also more easily add images and sustain dialogues with each other.

Best wishes,

Balder

Re: 2008-2009 TSK Online Program

Crouching Tiger [no longer around] said Oct 5, 2008, 10:51 PM:

Then count me as one of the parallel journalists!

I like your idea of linking to each others' entries.  You get much more traffic than I do!  But I have had a few friends ask about TSK and I think it would be nice for them to have the opportunity to read both (my) beginners's level notes and (your and Davidu's) advanced notes for a wider perspective.

The interaction here on Gaia could be rewarding, in many ways :)

Thank you for your comments and ideas!

Hope to hear as much as possible about this exciting expedition:):)

When I first studied TSK in the 80`s I felt a certain connection to these lyrics of Top Gun, the film. TSK -besides other approaches) unleasehed new emotions too. And sensations, feeling and vibes.

Just my 2 cts about  some of my initial experiences with TSK..

ARTIST: ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

@SONG: DANGER ZONE - KENNY LOGGINS
(G. Moroder/T. Whitlock)

Revvin' up your engine
Listen to her howlin' roar
Metal under tension
Beggin' you to touch and go

Highway to the danger zone
Ride into the danger zone

Headin' into twilight
Spreadin' out her wings tonight
She got you jumpin' off the deck
And shovin' into overdrive

Highway to the danger zone
I'll take you
Right into the danger zone

You'll never say hello to you
Until you get it on the red line overload
You'll never know what you can do
Until you get it up as high as you can go

Out along the edges
Always where I burn today
The further on the edge
The hotter the intensity

Highway to the danger zone
Gonna take you
Right into the danger zone

Highway to the danger zone

@SONG: MIGHTY WINGS - CHEAP TRICK
(H. Faltermeyer/M. Spiro)

It's just a ball of dust
Underneath my feet
It rolls around the sun
Doesn't mean that much to me

I take a chance on the edge of life
Just like all the rest
I look inside and dig it out
Cause there's no point for second best

There's a raging fire in my heart tonight
Growing higher and higher in my soul
There's a raging fire in the sky tonight
I want to ride on the silver dove
Far into the night

Chorus:
Till I make you take me
On your mighty wings
Make you take me
On your mighty wings across the sky
Take me on your mighty wings
Take me on your mighty wings tonight

With just a little luck
A little cold blue steel
I'll cut the night like a razor blade
Till I fell the way I want to feel

There's a raging fire in my heart tonight
Growing higher and higher in my soul
There's a raging fire in the sky tonight
I want to ride on the silver dove
Far into the night

Chorus:

Take me on your mighty wings
Take me on your mighty wings

@SONG: PLAYING WITH THE BOYS - KENNY LOGGINS
(K. Loggins/P. Wolf/I. Wolf)

They say it was the right time
To walk away
When dreaming takes you nowhere
It's time to play
Bodies working overtime
Your money don't matter
The clock keeps ticking
When someone's on your mind
On your mind

I'm moving in slow motion
Feel so good
It's a strange anticipation
Knock, knock, knocking on wood
Bodies working overtime
Man against man
And all that ever matters
Is baby who's ahead in the game
Funny but it's always the same

Chorus:
Playing, playing with the boys
Staying, playing with the boys
After chasing sunsets
One of life's simple joys
Is playing with the boys

Said it was the wrong time
For me to do
I said it's just a boy's game
Girls play too
My heart is working overtime
In this kind of game
Someone gets hurt
I'm afraid that someone is me
If you want to find me, I'll be

Chorus:

I don't want to be the moth around your fire
I don't want to be obsessed by your desire
I'm ready, I'm leaving
I've seen enough
I've got to go
You play too rough

Chorus:

@SONG: LEAD ME ON - TEENA MARIE
(G. Moroder/T. Whitlock)

Turn around to see you
In a crowded place
I watch for the emotions
On a guarded face
Saying lead me on

Victim of a dream
And a memory
But when I try to break free
You say to me
C'mon and lead me on

A matter out of time
In the reaches of space
Caught up in the patterns
In the light of life
Walk across the bridge
To the shadows of the night

Chorus:
Saying lead me on (lead me on)
Lead me on (on, on)
Lead me on (lead me on)
On and on (on, on)
Lead me on

Voices in the night
Chase the demons away
Looking in the mirror
It's easy to say
C'mon and lead me on

The choices of a lifetime
In the dreams of day
When the coast is gettin' clearer
I hear you say
C'mon and lead me on

A matter out of time
In the look of your face
Caught up in the patterns
In the light of life
Walk across the bridge
To the shadows of the night

Chorus:

Talk to me of lightning - I'll hear what you say, my love
Reaching for the meaning all of the way
I can keep believing in you and me, my love
Finding the answers that we need - sometimes it's meant to be
Oh, lead me on (lead me on)

Turn around to see you
In a crowded place
I watch for the emotions
As they cross your face
Saying lead me on

I see you in a dream
And a memory
A captive of the light
You say to me
C'mon and lead me on
C'mon and lead me on
C'mon and lead me on
Lead me on
Lead me on

@SONG: TAKE MY BREATH AWAY - BERLIM
(G. Moroder/T. Whitlock)

Watching every motion
In my foolish lover's game
On this endless ocean
Finally lovers know no shame
Turning and returning
To some secret place inside
Watching in slow motion
As you turn around and say

Take my breath away
Take my breath away

Watching I keep waiting
Still anticipating love
Never hesitating
To become the fated ones
Turning and returning
To some secret place to hide
Watching in slow motion
As you turn to me and say: “My Love”
Take my breath away

Through the hourglass I saw you
In time you slipped away
When the mirror crashed I called you
And turned to hear you say:
“If only for today, I am unafraid”

Take my breath away
Take my breath away

Watching every motion
In this foolish lover's game
Haunted by the notion
Somewhere there's a love in flames
Turning and returning
To some secret place inside
Watching in slow motion
As you turn my way and say

Take my breath away
My love
Take my breath away
My love
Take my breath away, my love
Take my breath away

@SONG: HOT SUMMER NIGHTS - MIAMI SOUND MACHINE
(M. Joy/R. A. Scott/R. Freeland)

In the time before the twilight
Settles on the world
Woah, you can feel the magic
Dreamin' of someone to hold tight
One more lonely girl
Woah, goes on automatic

Everywhere across the land
In front of their mirrors with combs in their hands
They prepare to make a stand
Lover to lover, woman to man
(Livin' for the…)

Chorus:
Sidewalk hot summer nights
Radio 'bout to blow
Small talk under the lights
Feel the heat, wild and sweet
Hot summer nights

Sitting out upon the front steps
Bursting at the seams
Woah, driven by desire
City boy stares at the sunset
Dreaming desperate dreams
Woah, where there's smoke there's fire

And some believe that love is won
And some of them go like they're under the gun
In between what's already done
And the promise they feel in the evening to come
(Livin' for the…)

Chorus:

Oh, oh hot summer nights
Oh, oh hot summer nights

In the end two hearts will meet
And maybe they'll find whatever they seek
If they can, they'll learn how to keep
The faith that they found in the sound of the beat
(Livin' for the…)

Chorus:

@SONG: HEAVEN IN YOUR EYES - LOVERBOY
(P. Dean/M. Reno/J. Dexter/M. Moore)

I can tell you by the look in your eyes you've been hurtin'
You know I'll never let you down… oh no
And I'll try anything to keep it workin'
You gave me time to find out
What my heart was lookin' for
And what I'm feelin' inside

In your eyes
I wanna see your love again
In your eyes
I never want this feeling to end
It took some time to find the light
But now I realize
I can see the heaven in your eyes

Can't you see I'm finding it hard to let go
Oooh all the heartaches
We've been through
I never really thought I'd see this love grow
But you helped me see
Now I know what my heart's been lookin' for
And what I'm feeling inside

In your eyes
I wanna see your love again
In your eyes
I never want this feeling to end
It took some time to find the light
But now I realize
I can see the heaven in your eyes

We've been livin' on the edge
Where only the strong survive
We've been livin' on the edge
And it's something that we just can't hide
Oh this feeling inside

In your eyes
I wanna see your love again
In your eyes
I never want this feeling to end
It took some time to find the light
But now I realize
I can see the heaven in your eyes
Oooh yeah I can see the heaven in your eyes
I can see the heaven, heaven in your eyes
I can see the heaven, heaven in your eyes
Heaven in your eyes
Oooh
Heaven in your eyes

@SONG: THROUGH THE FIRE - LARRY GREENE
(G. Moroder/T. Whitlock)

I will take it to the wire now
Until every race is run
I'll go straight into the fire now
Until every day is done
Voices say - break away
Live the night as if each moment
Was the only one

Through the fire
To the wire
When the night out of control
Is breaking your heart
Through the fire
To the wire
When the flames are burning hot
They take you higher
Through the fire

There's a feeling that I can't ignore
Like a stranger at my door
So revealing that I cannot hide
When you settle up the score
Voices say - night and day
Live your life as if each second
Was the final one

Through the fire
To the wire
When the night out of control
Is breaking your heart
Through the fire
To the wire
When the flames are burning hot
They take you higher
Through the fire

I look for signs that you are here tonight
When the passion calls the pleasure to the path
Then I ask you of the meaning when you talk of love
Would you take the leap of faith?
Would you throw it all away?

Through the fire
To the wire
When the night out of control
Is breaking your heart
Through the fire
To the wire
When the flames are burning hot
They take you higher
Through the fire

@SONG: DESTINATION UNKNOWN - MARIETTA
(F. Golde/P. Fox/J. Hooker)

I see life and it's passin' right before my eyes
And the past is the past
Don't regret it, time to realize
I need to walk on the wire
Just to catch my breath
I don't know how or where
But I'm goin' it's all that I have left

It don't matter where it takes me
Long as I can keep this feelin'
Runnin' through my soul

Never took this road before - destination unknown
Oh oh oh ohohoh - destination unknown
Won't be comin' back this way
Gotta go it alone
Oh oh oh ohohoh - destination unknown

See a chance gotta take it
Wanna meet my fate
Cause the last thing I ever wanted
Was to find out it's too late
No way out when you're in it
Deeper than the night
There's a light at the end of the tunnel
I see it burnin' bright

It don't matter where it takes me
Long as I can keep this feelin'
Runnin' through my soul

Never took this road before - destination unknown
Oh oh oh ohohoh - destination unknown
Won't be comin' back this way
Gotta go it alone
Oh oh oh ohohoh - destination unknown

It don't matter where it takes me
Long as I can keep this feelin'
Runnin' through my soul

Never took this road before - destination unknown
Oh oh oh ohohoh - destination unknown
Won't be comin' back this way
Gotta go it alone
Oh oh oh ohohoh - destination unknown

Albert, very cool lyrics!  Especially the first two, I remember hearing them the first time and feeling the thrill just like with some of the old songs by Triumph, Rush, Scorpions, Pink Floyd and other bands - many of which I was lucky to hear in concerts in my hometown.

The thrill I feel making new discoveries and “loving knowledge” is like the music and the lyrics and the beat of the songs.  Especially, the ones about flying, about soaring.  It is a passion for learning and learning new ways to learn, like with TSK, that is so exciting.

Maybe we need a TSK Sound Room :)

One song especially, whose lyrics I think reflect expanded awareness and dreams for humanity, is Closer to the Heart.  It is really a Rush ;) for me to discover these teachings within TSK.  I plan to post my first notes from the first week, maybe tomorrow.

Very best,
E.

Hi Erin.

YES!

A TSK sound room….

And what about a TSK Feeling space?…

Emotional and energetic perceptions are such a powerful universe and even connected to gravity and lightness.

The human ear is connected as much to listening as to feeling, touching and equilibrium. The vibrations of a human voice alone can trigger each of these perception modes…

And the thrill goes on..):)

Is it too late to join the class?  Also, is it possible to just get reading materials and follow along?  Even if the cost to do that is equal, that might be best for me at this time, sort of dip my toe into the water of this group.  I'm very interested but haven't had much time to delve into it.  I will at least follow the blogs the 3 of you write to pick up on the concepts a bit.

Music - the feelings it evokes - along with lyrics - the movement of my mind through time, space and concepts - has always been a special practice for me.  Recently, Erin and I shared the power of such a connection within the interests and issues of our own lives.

Well, I do hope to get to know you all better as the fall, winter and spring semesters progress.  Maybe I'll be ready to be more directly active the next time this rolls around.

Thanks Erin for bringing me into this group,

Hi, Deborah,

I expect it's probably not too late to join the class.  It only has just started and there hasn't been much activity yet.  Also, the readings are fairly short.  But as you know, we'll also be posting our notes and comments, so you can definitely follow along that way.  We also have the readings in a form that we could email to you, so you could follow along with the readings too.

If you do want to join the class, I recommend contacting Kathleen (I think her email address is listed up above).  If you want to join from the sidelines, just let one of us know by email or PM and we can send you the readings.

Best wishes,

Balder,

Thanks for the quick response.  It isn't the cost but the time requirements that give me pause.

Are these the books by Tarthang Tulku?  If so, then I have found both books at Amazon and could order them.  Then someone here could just keep me apprised of what pages I should read.

I think I could easily keep up with the reading (including your blogs) but writing a blog myself or commenting might be hard to keep up with.

Still, I'm considering if I should just dive in anyway.

As you may know, this class is just the first of three units which will go on throughout 2009, so there will be plenty of time and opportunity to get into this material.

Looking forward to this!

Getting errors leaving comments so hopefully this one sticks!

Missed the call today; unexpected casework meetings involved the day and evening.  But it's at resolution phase now, so my time is freer now.  Tried to catch up on the CCI site, but only able to access 2007.  I've got to be doing something wrong.  I emailed K and with her super response time, sure it'll be resolved by morning :)

Writing the notes out somehow makes them much more clear than just thinking about things.  Thank you for the discovery of the class!
