Uncarved Block
Welcome!

There is pure potential found within an uncarved block. Pu or uncarved block is a principle of Taosim and is a metaphor for wu wei or the ability to know when to act and when not to act.

This group is an opportunity to explore the uncarved block (or the blank screen) and...(more)

Jenny Hi Leigh-Anne, I'm thinking about writing a storybook and or workbook about my 12 years working with children and young adults with disabilities teaching swimming and karate and supporting parents. It would be creative non-fiction. Is this the right place to explore that? or should I wander over to Diving Deeper? What do you think?. It has taken its time and as you state the uncarved block has its own time and I feel it starting to shift into that. (7 months ago)

Absent-minded Awareness

quietlaughter said Oct 12, 10:21 AM:

If we take the term in a positive and creative sense, we could say that awareness is a state of absent-mindedness. The point here is that, when there is no mind to be absent, energy comes in, and so you are accurate, you are precise, your are mindful – but absent-minded at the same time. So maybe we can use the term absent-minded in this more positive sense, rather than in the conventional sense of being forgetful or constantly spaced out, so to speak. So whenever there is a message of awareness, then you are in it [you are aware] already. There is the state of absent-mindedness and mindfulness at the same time…..Approached in this way, mindfulness is no longer a problem, a hassle, or a big deal.

I was fascinated by this teaching.I came across a simple description/examples/definitions of awareness in a recent book–“Move into life” by Anat Baniel.this is for beginners who are trying to understand “awareness and awaring” I  am aware that I joined the group only today!!

Hi Roamer :-) Thanks for sharing that book. I have not read it, but will find it, it sounds interesting! I have enjoyed reading Chogyam Trungpa's teachings for a long time - one that really spoke to me was Shambala: Sacred Path of the Warrior

Welcome to the group!

I enjoyed this. One of the lessons I coach to actors is “awareness of awareness” as one of the perceptions. Showing it on camera is giving the lines they are with in the moment a certainty to the audience as well as themselves. The quote removes what I call in a coined work, maundering (mental wandering) to create being with the moment & task at hand. I can think with this new concept of a saner method of absent-minded awareness. I looked up the book you mention roamer & will check it out along with Leigh Anne's recommendation.
