Meditation and Mind

Moni said Mar 12, 2008, 7:54 AM:

Through the daily practice of meditation, which accesses higher vibrational states, permanent and useful insights may be obtained.  Higher thought, or constructive thinking at higher levels, is a powerful problem solving tool.  Hermits, through the ages, were consulted because of their solitude practice, for advice on difficult questions or issues.   There was something about this practice of thinking in solitude, with nature for inspiration, which led these people to become wise.  Of course, these days solitude can be hard to find for most, in busy lives, so the practice of any meditational technique, on a regular basis, can bring out answers to issues at higher levels.  Would anyone like to discuss an idea about a complex problem of today, which could be resolved just by meditating on it, or has had experience with an AHA! moment, after any vibrational therapy?

I don't find meditation - as in purposefully stilling the mind - to be all that helpful for me.  I receive much more insight and guidance by simply putting questions out there and listening for the answer.  Some come immediately, as if in a dialogue, and other times they come at the most unexpected times.

I can recall one time in particular where I as particularly frustrated and knew I wasn't listening.  Ask put my question out there and decided to go for a walk just to get out of the house and change up my energy.  I didn't even make it to the end of the driveway before I heard the answer.

I find if I am aware of being in struggle then I know I am creating the interference that is preventing me from Hearing.  When I am in “ease and flow” I receive guidance much more in the moment … I guess it comes down to the less I think about it the more I get.

Good point, Lorraine.  This is also very valid.  Not everyone actually likes meditation, in the classical sense of the word.  Many people do working or walking meditation – they used to do the latter in labyrinths.  They are also using this technique of walking labyrinths and meditation for altzheimer's sufferers, to trigger memory.  There seem to be some surprising results.

I love the way the AHA! came right out the door, right in nature.  I just love that.  You made my day!!

And there's that thing of over thinking.  How can we stop that, ARGH!

I'm not so sure the goal is to stop over thinking. I see the intent more so as to change the type of thinking we engage in.

Lorraine, I think I want to hear more on that topic.  Can you add more?  It's interesting…

Lorraine: “I see the intent more so as to change the type of thinking we engage in.”

Two things come to mind …

I believe humans are wonderfully creative beings and are amazing problem sovlers.  What we have available to us today comes from our sense of curiousity and willingness to take on the challenge of “how do I/we …”.

But somewhere along the way we run ourselves off the road … perhaps because we get lazy in our thinking.  One way to describe this might be we go for the “easy apples” rather than challenge ourselves to apply our thinking to more difficult problems.

A couple of examples of what I see … next time you're in the grocery store take a moment to look at not only how many different types of products there are, take a look at how many different types of each product … crackers, processed meat, chips, beverages, pet food, margerine, etc.  The “easy apple” we see all the time is the new variation of each product type … new crackers, chips, beverages, etc.   Rather than trying to come up with a new cracker, let's apply our creativity to how we can use that same amount of grain to feed more people?  Or cell/mobile phones … we are on a path to see what is the maximum number of features that can be combined into the smallest possible phone.  Rather than inventing smaller phones, let's apply our creativity to how we can connect more of the world together?

The expansions we see are actually quite limited by how narrow we become in our thinking.  We can do a lot better at what we apply our thinking to.  Perhaps right now we are experiencing the need for more “horizontal” / integrated thinking with a slow down in “vertical” / separated thinking.  My feeling is “horizontal” thinking will turn out to require a new kind of “over thinking” … it will challenge us to be much more expansive than we have had to ever before in the past and take us into realms we have be afraid to venture.  My sense is at first it will feel very difficult … too much information … but as we get used to this “horizontal” thinking, “vertical” thinking will seem boring or maybe even trivial.

Another type or change in thinking I see is a shift from individual thinking to collaborative thinking … in two ways.  The first way I see is that we'll start thinking using our minds together … sort of like what NASA does by linking a whole bunch of Xboxes and computers together to process celestial data.  This actually may be a tougher concept to grasp than a second type of collaborative thinking … working with other Intelligences, The Universe, God, or whatever name you want to use.  There is so much we can access already by going outside of our own minds  … all we have to do is Listen and engage in the conversation.

Fascinating, Lorraine.  The horizontal way of thinking makes a lot of sense, and I think I am reading you right when I say it's intended to be more inclusive.  Is this right?

If so, it takes in a larger picture of who we are, rather than just vertically placed, we have another angle which is probably co-operative or integral in nature, maybe, with what is spacially around us, or concerns us.

In many ways this thought pattern you succinctly point out, is in line with vibrational therapy, in that it tends to be inclusive in nature, or encompass other things.

I think it would be interesting to nut this out further.  I think it's very current and needs some thought.  I agree also in this sense that you say this is a different kind of thinking too, and I am pleased you expanded it out more…Moni
