I just joined this group so I could be be a Gaia Visionary. I've been an ordinary visionary for a couple of decades and have added some of my art to my profile in my "photos" section.

When I'm creating, I go somewhere else. I get my "game face" on and forget time and committments and just create. I get in trouble for that sometimes.

I've been a painter for many years but just recently, I began painting on furniture. I use an old used piece of furniture, sometimes one that's all broken, and I fix it up and "repurpose" it. I use it as my canvas. It's a 3D canvas and I enjoy using the shape of the object to determine what I'm going to paint on it.

So, that's me. Basically. I look forward to seeing new works and engaging in new conversations.

Now, I worked for a while as a cost estimator at a college text book company and I know what a tiny pittance goes for author fees. Instead of 6 to 10%, what I propose here is that you get to keep is 70%. I personally have had a hard time finding a central location for books of this subject matter, which means we could have a niche! The benefit for me would also be increased traffic to my site and hopefully you authors let me read your works while we are at it. Of course this is something to which we both need to agree, so please take a look at the pdf listed above.

hi everyone! my name is ryan warner and just joined this group. i am a photographer, painter, illustrator, designer, and writer. i have a b.a. in visual communication and have just started to take the initial steps into trying to market my art work...mainly my photography. i was recently signed to the mac worthington gallery (www.macworthington.com) and will start showing there in the main gallery in march.

Physicists, mostly, are realistic reductionist Copernicist mathematicists.

Realism is the prejudice that there is a universe out there, distinct from, but in communication with the physicist(1), and that understanding of this universe ought to be obtained by careful observation(2).

Reductionism is the prejudice that in order to understand complicated thingsit helps to understand its simpler parts(3).

Copernicism is the prejudice that the universe doesn’t care about the physicist’s tastes and preferences(4): the universe will keep going its own way as physicists fall for fads and fashions. In short, you are neither the center, nor at the center, of the universe.

Mathematicism is the prejudice that we can describe and, with luck, predict phenomena using the rules of the mathematical game(5); and that the universe deigns to conform to the rules of human mathematics(6).

All these prejudices may be wrong(7), but I will stick to them until they are clearly wrong.

1: Denying this is solipsism: the solipsist cannot be proven wrong by logical argument, but is, perhaps for that very reason, not a nice person to be with.

5: After centuries of brainwashing by physics’ successes, it is extremely hard for us even to conceive of any other way of doing it.

6: An undeserved but very fortunate condescension! This behaviour cannot be proven, but so far we have been succesful. On the other hand, it may mean that our mathematics has hit upon some fundamental actual properties of the world—in that case, an alien thechnology-based civilization on a distant planet would probably do mathematics the same way.

7: An open mind is a good thing, but a prejudice such as ‘do not jump out of this high window, because gravity always works’ sees you safely through the day.

This is an enlightening topic. I am taking a philosophy class this semester and the questions that emerge are just amazing.

Slightly off the topic...

Today we discussed "isms" and how to be trapped within an "ism" is to be unaware of your own thinking capabilities. For example, if you follow passivism, you lose yourself within the definition. However, if you are just simply a pacifist, you remain able to think for yourself and respect the opinions of others. The "ism" strips one of the ability to make choices for themselves because there is a set of "rules" to be followed - a plan and a path already designed to follow.

I am curious to know what everyone thinks of this "thought."

PATNA: The mighty Kosi river in north Bihar has broken its embankment to pick up a channel it had abandoned over 200 years ago, drowning towns, numerous villages and rendering over a million homeless. Many are reported to have died.

Officials here say it's a catastrophe unlike annual floods. The brimming river has breached its embankment near the Bhimnagar barrage, close to the Nepal border, and is rushing down as a miles-wide stream to the Ganga, over almost 100km south. Unlike floods, this is not calm water but an angry torrent, making relief work very difficult.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said on Monday that over 2 million people have been affected by the Kosi. Ranjeeta Ranjan, MP from Saharsa, one of the flood-hit districts, said that over a million have become homeless. She said that over a hundred have died and she had personally seen bodies in the roiling waters.

What's alarming officials is that the 3km wide breach is growing by about 200 metres a day. The Bhimnagar barrage is just 12km away, and should the breach reach the barrage, huge inhabited areas of Supaul, Saharsa, Araria, Madhepura, Katihar and Purnea districts would be drowned, spelling an even bigger disaster.

Repair work on the breach has to be undertaken in Nepal, but when an Indian team reached there, it had to leave in the face of violent protests. Officials say full Central involvement in disaster management is essential - both to take up the issue with Nepal and for assistance in relief.

Drawing and photography

I love to draw, though i dont do it often, because for me to draw i need to be inspired by a picture or cartoon. As you can see i am not a perfect drawer but i think i am pretty good myself, as you can see in my profile picture [i drew that].

I also like to take pictures. I always like to take pictures no matter how the day is. I think i have always like to do it but i didnt know it until i came to a broadcasting class, where you practically take pictures and videos everyday. Since then i always like to have a camera with me so i can take pictures any time i want. I even found a picture i took on the internet in google.

So i am glad i found this group in Gaia because i can express my art.
