Ebills and online banking

jdp said Jul 24, 2006, 11:01 AM:

I switched nearly every regular bill I have over to ebills either directly to my bank or if not available to my email.  I don't even have a lot of bills compared to the rest of the world and its highly unlikely I'd ever be a target of id theft or anything lol so I feel pretty comfortable having done so but the best benefits are 1) reduced paper coming in!, 2) MUCH less time paying bills (can't get any easier than point and click unless you are so disciplined you can set up autopay) and 3) MUCH less time and space taken up by filing, paper budgeting, etc.

I was raised by an old school banker and thought I'd never change.  So happy I have.  And it still amazes me how many people haven't.  I know for some like my dad there is a satisfaction sitting down, flipping through bills, writing in the check book, stamping and mailing.  But I'm feeling happy.  If you are on the fence, I'd recommend trying it!  Start with something small.  It was my auto insurance that got me hooked.

I figure the computerized way is just as secure as the old fashioned mail way esp considering I've got a psychopathic neighbor into opening my mail.

I recently did the same thing I now get all  my bills online ;  If I need  a paper record then I print the one sheet I need(for Taxes )!

About a year ago I decided to do one thing every month to leave a  more gentle foot print on the earth!

Some month's it is a large thing like starting to recycle some months it is smaller: Like becomeing more informed so that my money is spent where my heart is!

So a couple of months ago going through my bills ,putting the pieces I don't need in the recycling Bin; the evelopes alone ,one they send you ,one you can send back ,a flyer and then the bill…too much paper!

I still pay my bill through telephone banking but I am not recyling as much paper!

I'm with you on this and have been doing the same, where possible, for a while.  There are security risks, though there are always security risks.

If only there were a good way to reduce all the junk mail, unwanted flyers and magazines, etc.  I wrote to a magazine company who started sending me oodles of (five) magazines every month that I have absolutely no interest in (Golf digest, Parents, etc.) and they continue to send them.  Right now, I save them for the school so they have them for collages, etc.

I have recently started returning junkmail;  in the envelope (postage paid one's) I re-insert their junk that the send to me with a note saying as long as they continue to send  me stuff I will send it back to them & tell them to remove me from there mailing list!

When company's have return postage envelopes… it only costs them if you send it back! Too soon to say whether or not it is working ..but it does make me feel better!

Ack!  Dunno.  I don't know anything about Canadian law.  I can ask a friend that does more business “up north” and get back here to post about it if there is.
