i am reading the Dhammapada and the intro is nearly as long as the text itself. There are many good quotes in the intro but this one i really like, an old Indian prayer:

May the evil man become good, and may the good man have peace. May he who has peace become free, and may he who is free make others free.

Another from the Maitri Upanishad:
