I get this newsletter via email for free weekly.  the author also published some books on my shelves.  I came across this week's newsletter which the topic is “What is love really?”  You gotta check it out!!

With reference to Neale on Love:Very true - often true love is an apparently unloving act and few have the strength to act this way. It just goes to show that each situation/choice needs to be thought through.
Regarding God saying “Yes” when we have been given free will there is nothing to be said except, perhaps, “You are free to do/think as you wish.” with the qualification to this being There is no forgiveness where there is no condemnation.

Here is something from The “Quo Vadis?” File.
  “I Love You!”

The test of this declaration is not that it is made, or the number of times it is repeated but the degree of self-sacrifice the declarer is willing to make when the time comes to demonstrate the love. In other words, it is not the words that count but the actions.
